Discussion: Reigniting the flame – Making the case for Final Fantasy Type-0′s localization By Erren Van Duine on August 17, 2012 at 5:29 PM

It’s been nearly a year since Final Fantasy Type-0 released in Japan.

As of today, the game remains firmly grounded there, despite earlier dialogue from director Hajime Tabata, claiming a localization was in the works. That was in November of last year.

So why hasn’t Square Enix said anything? What exactly are they waiting for? Sure the game is on PSP – but that hasn’t stopped other companies from continuing to release games on the platform, digital or otherwise. The other option would be the PlayStation Vita, but perhaps the company is waiting for a larger user base before they jump in. I never thought there would come a day in the current generation when such a large scale project would remain Japan-exclusive… but it seems like we may be heading there.

That said, the absolute silence with Final Fantasy Type-0 is a major problem. The game is as good if not greater than its vanilla FFXIII cousins and deserves just as much attention as them too. As I said in my recent import review, Square Enix would be wise to give the title its due attention before it’s too late.

As fans, I think it’s time to take a stand; let Square Enix know that we truly want this game and want it localized into English. Of course, it’s best to keep things clean, so please… let’s keep comments thoughtful and constructive and hopefully we can turn this into something bigger. What do you think? Sound off in the comments section below.

I feel like I’m in the small camp that loved XIII and XIII-2, but I will admit that Type-0 is something else, either greater or comparable. I have the Japanese version and it is great- the only thing missing from it is English text so I can understand what the menus say. I would buy this game in a heartbeat if it was localized. I’ve read detailed storyline summaries online, and not to spoil anything, but the story was moving and intriguing. Personally, I’d rater have Type-0 sooner than Versus because Type-0 is a finished game that we know is great, while Versus still has yet to prove itself.

As a last note, if Type-i0 is localized, I hope it’s for the PSP- I recently bought it for BBS and Dissidia 012, and it would suck if I didn’t get this game for it. Ideally they would make it for the Vita AND release a version of it for the PSP. Digital download for the PSP would make the most sense, but there’s so much data on the games’ two discs that it might be a hassle to download it.

I’m on the same boat with you. FFXIII definitely tops my list of favorite games, but there’s something great about Type-0 that really pulls me in. It’s something I would buy a PSP in a heartbeat just so I could play it. I honestly don’t understand why they’ve decided to be so quiet about it. I guess since the interviewers who go to conventions/exhibits obviously live in Japan, they’ve already got the game and could care less about the rest of the world having it.

Do you think someone could get a petition going around the internet? If SE saw if a ~million people would buy it, they’ll know it’ll be successful.

Also, couldn’t they release it for the PS3 or possible PS2? Sure it’s resolution is smaller but it’s better than not having the game at all.

Seriously, we don’t even need full voice acting or anything. English subs and menus, please. Is that too much to ask?

I think there has to be some sort of media(and i mean big media) involvement here. If somehow a important Media ask SE ‘What has been on type 0′ Maybe we could get some notice on it. Notice that ever since it was released, there has been basicaly no involvement of some sort(news, reports, etc) of the important sites(the ones that used to post pretty much any kind of trailer/screenshot that SE leaked of the game when it wasnt out) on the localization of type 0 whatsoever, is kind of weird that the game launched and pretty much dissapeared from the spotlight

PD: Sorry for grammar errors, im spanish

I’ve played the demo for final fantasy type-0 and it was one of the best demo’s I have ever tried. Honestly, this game would do great and if SE is worried about sales then can’t they always just release this on psn? Well anyways, hopefully SE will announced an actual date for the localization of the game. Speaking of which, there is a peaceful online protest happening right now. It’s called Project Crystallis and it’s aiming to bring type-0 overseas and square enix announce info for versus xiii. Everyone spread the word and hopefully we can have enough people so that we can catch the attention of Square Enix and maybe even make something happen at TGS
