Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn opening movie signals the start of beta test signups By Erren Van Duine on January 7, 2013 at 6:03 AM

A new year marks a new leaf for Final Fantasy XIV.

Square Enix has just released the game’s opening movie, which will usher in a new era when the MMO relaunches this summer. With a new roadmap at hand, the company hopes to capture players old and new alike as they attempt something few have ever done before.

Alongside this reveal, beta applications have opened here. Of course, if you’re already a Legacy member, there’s no need to apply. Those looking to get in on the PlayStation 3 beta, however, are advised to submit an application. Those who previously applied for the 1.x PS3 beta test and were selected for the original Windows test need not apply again – your application is still valid.

    From what I understand, yes.

Even though I played the game before and found the combat-system and leve-quest system horrid, I still have this deeply buried craving to play ARR.
I don’t know, I think it’s just the entire visual design that keeps drawing me in. It’s fantasy without being crazy over-the-top fantasy (thanks Akihiko Yoshida!).

That’s what ARR overhaul is for. The combat and other stuff, no?

  • Hedge

True enough, though honestly I haven’t followed the specifics of the ARR overhaul for fear of getting drawn to it, haha. But it seems to be a losing battle for me, alas. :P
