Rumor: Final Fantasy X HD to include FFX-2, release in June By Erren Van Duine on February 27, 2013 at 7:30 AM

A new rumor suggests that Final Fantasy X won’t be alone when it finally makes its way into the realm of HD remasters.

FF Reunion has some details on this ultra rumor, including a possible release time frame. The rumor itself suggests that FFX HD will release around late June with plans for Final Fantasy X-2 to see a remaster as well. The originator of the rumor also feels that the game is more like a remake instead of a remaster, with visuals matching those that came out of FFXIII.

Having resurfaced this past week, Square Enix promises more information on the title soon – something fans have been waiting for since the game’s announcement back at TGS 2011. It looks like that reveal might come sooner, rather than later.

    doubt it

Yeah, there’s no way. It’s too fast with too much content – and if that wasn’t enough, the remake/FFXIII comment seals the deal.

Much as id love it to be true, it sounds too good to be true, therefore it probably is. I’ll take it with a grain of salt until an official announcement.

How the hell would it be a remake now when they did just some weeks ago showed the first ingame graphics, which were just a better version of the old one rather then a remade character? Please explain >.<

IF this turns out to be true, I’m hoping that its I+LM. I really don’t want to have to go back to the original version haha.

  • surakian

Oh man I said just a few weeks ago that I hope they decide to do both so this is fantastic if it is true.

The character models have definitely been upgraded from the PS2 version.

  • devidation

I know they surely did. But you can’t compare this to FFXIII’s graphics.

  • Murasame

Out of FFXIII? That’s definitely a remake…explains why it took so long…but do we really need a REMAKE? I have my PS2 version and an HD remaster would have been fine…Jesus.

  • Syltique

That’s what I was wondering. Even XIII-2 wasn’t at XIII quality levels. XIII is by far the most polished.

X may have gotten some work, but I don’t see how it’s in the same ballpark as XIII.

The graphics we were recently shown were from the PS Vita, not the PS3. We have not yet seen what the PS3 version will look like, but we already know that they have been completely redoing the backgrounds and buildings and so on. It was mentioned early in the announcement period of X HD that the backgrounds of the original game were almost entirely pre-rendered (basically a big pretty picture), and that they would be having to recreate each object as its own proper item render.

You should still take this with a cow-sized grain of salt, but if they upgraded the world then they probably had to upgrade the character models to go along with it. An actual remake of the game would involve added content, altered dialogue, etc., which is why the team doing X HD said they would prefer to call it a remaster. And since X-2 reuses a great number of the graphical assets from X, it would be much easier to update that game once you’d already done X.

I’m definitely not saying “Oh yeah, this is happening”, but it’s actually not in the realm of scoffingly ridiculous either.

  • Ehren Rivers

I agree, if they do any kind of updating I want to be able to have I+LM. Partly because I want those Psychic dress spheres, and partly because I just enjoy having the more completed version of games. My understanding is the monster system was the inspiration for XIII-2′s monster system so I would be happy to see those origins.

I’m remaining as neutral as possible until the rumor is confirmed, but I really hope that at least the bit about X-2 is true.

  • devidation

I see, but still the wordings used by the rumor starter are not chosen that well. But besides that, If they are really doing objects over again, what are the chances we will be able to control the camera this time?

  • Ehren Rivers

It is pretty poorly worded, yes, and I don’t think this person quite understands what a proper remake entails. Then again, the announcement said remake, until the head developer said felt it was closer to a remaster than a remake. Hooray for being vague!

If they fully redo the entire environment, then I’m assuming that they game will have camera control as XII and the XIII games do.

  • SirAuron14

they said screenshots of the ps3 version was shown at Destination Playstation, but the reason why we don’t know much of it is the NDA. I hope something gets leaked! i know you guys have connections use them!

  • Protosin

Damn, if this is true then maybe Square will finally get back in the game starting this year. It sounds like they’ve got a lot to show this summer.

  • Ehren Rivers

I did some by-hand translation, and it looks like the rumor-starter specified that the graphics of the game look more on par with the pre-renders from the CG scenes in the original X than just cleaned up in-game graphics, which is why they say it looks closer to XIII in quality.

They should remake FFX-2′s storyline while they’re at it..

  • Guest

Graphics is same as PS2 version when “characters talking”

nothing changed…only the “characters talking” better models is replaced the old “normal gameplay models”

  • sadsad sadsad

Are you sure? Ps vita version Yuna its not even looking great as ps2 version cutscene models.

  • sadsad sadsad

    PSVITA/PS2

yeah exactly , I think they meant the scenes with higher poly models,Those indeed may look close to FFXIII.

  • Yup

If they’re gonna remake FFX-2, can they go back to the original idea and have Lulu instead of Paine :x Just my personal opinion
