Final Fantasy XI and XIV creators weigh in on the PlayStation 4 By Erren Van Duine on March 14, 2013 at 6:50 PM

This week’s Famitsu featured an interview segment, where many Japanese game creators gave their thoughts on Sony’s next generation hardware.

Among them were Square Enix’s Akihiko Matsui and Akihiko Yoshida – current staff on Final Fantasy XI and XIV respectively. In regards to FFXI, Matsui said he’d love to try a “FFXI Gaiden” or side-story. In regards to the PS4, he said he’d like to create something revolving around remote play – that is, port the game to PS4 and have it be the server, while the Vita functions as a client for multiple party play.

For FFXIV, Yoshida recognized the demand for a PS4 port of the upcoming MMO, but reminds us that the team’s current priority is the PS3 version of the game. It must be said, however, that he feels a PS4 version of XIV is definitely possible, but one step must be taken at a time.

    “[One] step must be taken at a time.”

    This comment can be applied to so many situations that SE has gone through over the years . . .

    Ugh. Why are Famitsu asking these guys? They have nothing to do with offline, mainline FF. They will be working on MMORPGs well into PS5.

    Seriously. Although I would love to play 14 with the best graphics/engine possible, It seems a bit much to overhaul the game yet again for that purpose. I mean at least give it a good 2 years after release before even considering revamping a ps4 version… Right?

    They won’t even revamp it for PS4. They will just port the PC version to PS4. It will be the same as how they ported the PC version of FFXI to the 360.

    But Square Enix juggle like a dozen projects at once.

    Naoki Yoshida, not Akihiko.

    スクエニ吉田明彦氏 = Akihiko Yoshida.

    Oh okay. His comment sounds just like something Naoki Yoshida would say. Plus I think it’s strange they would ask an illustrator of all people at Square Enix about PS4.

    Hi, Auröra,

    For a company as big as SQEX, yes, that’s the case (I hadn’t taken that into consideration ^^;), otherwise it could hardly make profits one game at a time.

    Nonetheless, my point is that a few games in the past have been announced too early, though at the time, SQEX (and its fans) didn’t think of them much.

    Perhaps the original Japanese blog is wrong. Famitsu should publish it on their site soon hopefully.
