Final Fantasy X|X-2 HD Remaster announced for North America and Europe

The announcement of the Final Fantasy X|X-2 HD Remaster is finally here!

Square Enix revealed today that the long sought after HD remaster will be making its way to both North America and Europe later this year. Final Fantasy X and Final Fantasy X-2 will be joined together on PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita – the PS3 versions married together in the form of Final Fantasy X|X-2 HD Remaster, while the Vita versions will each be sold separately.

“These games are classic fan-favorites, and we hope that new and old FINAL FANTASY fans can experience the world of Spira and the story of Tidus and Yuna in a brand-new light with these remastered editions,” said Yoshinori Kitase, producer of FINAL FANTASY X and FINAL FANTASY X-2. “Around 10 years ago, I was given the privilege of taking on the role of Producer on FINAL FANTASY X and FINAL FANTASY X-2. Just in time for PAX East, I am excited to announce that FINAL FANTASY X/X-2 HD Remaster will be coming to North America this year for PlayStation 3 and PS Vita.

“I invite you all to once again join Tidus and Yuna as they combat the colossal menace known as “Sin” to bring about lasting peace to the world of Spira – all in gorgeous HD! I’d like to thank the fans for supporting FINAL FANTASY and all of our efforts throughout these many years. We’ll be sharing more information and updates in the coming months, and we invite you to stay updated on all things FINAL FANTASY X and FINAL FANTASY X-2 through our official website and Facebook page.”

As reported earlier, the looks of the remastered game appear to be somewhere between those of Final Fantasies XII and XIII; True to the games roots, however, the development team appears to have opted for a style that still captures the original look of the PS2 game despite many improvements.

An official announcement trailer is due Monday, March 25th – but in the meantime you can visit the official site here.

FINAL FANTASY® X Synopsis:
************************************

“THE WORLD LIES ON THE BRINK OF DESTRUCTION. ONLY A SELECT FEW MAY BE ABLE TO SAVE IT.”

In ages past, the world of Spira experienced a golden age of perfection, brought about by an advanced civilization through the use of wondrous machinery called machina.

However, around one thousand years before the present day, a colossal menace known only as “Sin” appeared and
sundered all before it. Though a line of summoners have since brought Sin low many times, it inevitably returns in an unending cycle of destruction. In the face of this
ever-pervasive threat, the people of Spira flocked to the teachings of Yevon, which tell that Sin is a punishment to those who relied overly on machina.

Tidus is a young Blitzball star that mysteriously finds himself in Spira after his home city of Zanarkand is destroyed by Sin one thousand years in the past. Believing Sin to be the key to returning home, Tidus joins a young summoner named Yuna on her pilgrimage to destroy Sin and bring about the Calm.

FINAL FANTASY® X-2 Synopsis:
**************************************

“LAST TIME SHE SAVED THE WORLD. THIS TIME IT’S PERSONAL.”

Two years have passed since Sin was destroyed. Since her victory and becoming a high summoner, Yuna has lived on her childhood home of Besaid Island. Then one day, Rikku comes to Besaid and shows Yuna a sphere. The recording is of him. Or is it?

Yuna can’t tell whether it’s him or just someone who looks like him. If it is him, Yuna might be able to see him one more time. No matter what the truth may be, the answers she finds may change things forever.
