Yuji Abe: Lightning is more vulnerable this time around

In a recent interview with the design director for Lightning Returns, one mister Yuji Abe, the gaming site Polygon found out that despite her seemingly cold demeanor the heroine of the Final Fantasy XIII trilogy was been “deeply affected” by the tragedies in her life. Many people have noticed (particularly since the release of the Gamescom trailer) that Lightning seems more feminine this time around, perhaps even a little girly.

Abe asserts that this is because her previously thick and prickly skin has been cracked and weakened by a combination of the losses she’s suffered and the gravity of the mission ahead of her. The interview also discusses the inspiration Toriyama seems to have drawn on from one of his previous projects, Final Fantasy X-2, when developing the systems for the final installment of the Lightning Saga.
