Theatrhythm Final Fantasy Curtain Call teaser site opens, is playable at TGS

Square Enix has opened the official teaser site for Theatrhythm Final Fantasy Curtain Call – a follow-up to 2012’s original rhythm title on the Nintendo 3DS.

While the sequel won’t be switching platforms, it will host a set of new features including over 60 characters and more than 200 songs – including tracks from Final Fantasy XIV and Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII.

A new Versus Battle Mode will allow players to compete against other people. You’ll be able to trigger various skills and actions in order to disrupt the other player during a given song to achieve higher results. New maps and boss battles along with medley quests will once again tie the game into the RPG genre – complete with various items that can be equipped to each character.

This time, Square Enix has added a Music Player and Theater Mode so players can listen to music and watch event scenes without actually having to go back and play the rhythm part. User profile cards are also being upgraded from the previous version, but details as to how remain slim.

Theatrhythm Final Fantasy Curtain Call will see its Japanese release come early 2014 and will be playable at next week’s Tokyo Game Show. As of this posting, a Western version remains unannounced.
