No theme song for Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII

Lightning Returns won’t be sporting any big theme songs this time around, according to a post by the official LR Twitter account.

The team confirmed the news this morning following an announcement that the game’s soundtrack was on its way for mastering as we speak. According to the post, Square Enix has received quite a bit of questions about a potential theme song – the likes of which have found their way into nearly every “big” Final Fantasy within the past decade, with examples including Final Fantasy XIII’s own Kimi ga Iru Kara and XIII-2’s Yakusoku no Basho. The final act of the trilogy, however, will forgo any outside talent and instead focus on the three main composers: Masashi Hamauzu, Naoshi Mizuta and Mitsuto Suzuki.

Their music has been integral to the FFXIII saga and this time Lightning Returns fielded to them a new challenge. Not only will each major area in the game center around different styles of music, but the soundtrack as a whole is said to have the largest number of tracks in the series.
