Dragon Quest XI being developed in tandem with Dragon Quest Heroes

Dragon Quest Heroes isn’t the only Dragon Quest title in development, according to series creator Yuji Horii. Speaking with Famitsu this week, Horii shared details surrounding the newly announced Action RPG and what it means for the eventual Dragon Quest XI.

In development as a collaboration between Square Enix and Koei Tecmo, Dragon Quest Heroes uses the concept of an invasion of one million Dragon Quest monsters, varying in shape and size, with battles themselves inspired by Koei’s own ARPG Toukiden. The game started development last year at Omega Force, who remains under the direct supervision of Square Enix staff. Horii himself is also said to have taken on a fairly hands-on role in the game’s development.

Dragon Quest Heroes will also feature a number of arrangements from other Dragon Quest games and classic sounds such as the level up chime will be included as well.

Lastly, Horii confirmed the next numbered entry in the series is also in development, although first he would like you to play Dragon Quest Heroes to build up a little bit of excitement before that next title comes out.

Dragon Quest Heroes is launching on both PS3 and PS4 in Japan by Spring 2015.
