Celebrate the music of Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts and more with the Video Games Orchestra

Fans of video game music no doubt know of the many concerts on tour today. From Distant World to Video Games Live, game music has been presented on the public stage for years now, often endorsed by the original game publisher or composers themselves, and changing the way we view game music as a medium. To that end, the Video Games Orchestra has risen in recent times to put a modern twist on many of the themes we know and love, and starting this month they’ll be taking things even further with an all-new tour.

Starting tomorrow, the VGO will take up the stage in Boston at the Berklee Performance Center. There, they will premiere music from the newly released D4: Dark Dreams Don’t Die with Swery from Access Games in attendance as a special guest. The concert set list also includes music from Final Fantasy, Chrono Trigger and more with a special emphasis on a Masashi Hamauzu-sanctioned Final Fantasy XIII arrangement.

Their second concert will take place on October 11th at the Taiwan International Convention Center in Taipei City, Taiwan and will feature arrangement music from the Final Fantasy XIII series, Final Fantasy VII, Final Fantasy Tactics, Final Fantasy XII, Kingdom Hearts, Chrono Cross, Chrono Trigger and more. This event will also include a particularly robust guest lineup featuring:

Yasunori Mitsuda (Chrono Trigger, Xenogears)
Masashi Hamauzu (IMERUAT, Final Fantasy XIII, Saga Frontier 2)
Yoko Shimomura (Kingdom Hearts, Street Fighter II, Final Fantasy XV)
Hitoshi Sakimoto (Final Fantasy XII/Tactics, Valkyria Chronicles)
SWERY (D4 Director, Deadly Premonition)
TECHNOuchi (D4 Audio Director, Demon’s Souls)
Tadayoshi Makino (Dragon’s Dogma, Monster Hunter)
And more.

For those unfamiliar with the VGO, they started back in 2008, coining their signature “rockestra” style with the presentation of video game music blended together with both rock and orchestral symphony sounds. The VGO also recently launched its own recording division and has been involved in the soundtracks for Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII, Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 ReMIX and the recently released Tokyo Game Show trailer for Final Fantasy XV.
