Hmmm…A quick Googling for “Mevius” came up with this curt wikipedia entry:
    en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bavius
    > “Bavius and Maevius (or Mevius) were two poets in the age of Augustus Caesar, whose names became synonymous with bad verse and malicious criticism of superior writers.”

Owing to Square-Enix’s past predilections for Latin names and song lyrics, my guess is that this must somehow, in some vague, indirect and esoteric way, be related.

  • Krijn van Alten

Maybe this is a sequel of Dissidia! I keep hoping!

  • Krijn van Alten

Maybe it´s a part of that idea for a kind of ´compilaion of XV´ as mentioned by Nomura and Hashimoto.

  • If we got a sequel for Dissidia, no doubt it would be called Dissidia Tredecim: Final Fantasy.

  • Heropon

I hope this will be a consoler or handheld FF that is directed by Takashi Tokita and Hiroyuki Ito . Both of them are great directors . They need to make more games

  • Martian Wong

Where is the header picture coming from?

  • Azuardo

    Agni’s Philosophy, I think.

  • Martian Wong

    From that picture, I see a Bahamut/dragon flying. Also a sword-like building…

  • Azuardo
  • Martian Wong

But is that picture released along the trademark or NC added it?

  • Azuardo

    It’s unrelated to the trademark.

  • Martian Wong

As I expected. I wonder what this trademark is for. Next Dissdia? Shinji Hashimoto did say that they are aware of the fans wanting a new Dissidia on Vita back in Thailand. Or it could be Final Fantasy XVI since Final Fantasy XV is finally back on track.

  • I dunno about no Mevius, but I hope they’ve gotten started on XVI already. I don’t want to have to wait another decade for a new numbered entry…

  • Alexis Crockett

    japan-only mobile game, calling it

  • Alexis Crockett

wait no, “en” and “it”?? the languages are english and italian? can someone explain what it means when they put a language on a copyright file, i’m not familiar with any of this?

  • Alexis Crockett

I think XV was a special case… at least, I hope.

  • Daniel Masterson
  • Jesus Christ

My Divine vision has foreseen what this game is all about.

I’m not telling anyone about it.

    Bye.

  • Somber

Another day, another FF. But the problem is most of them are mobile games. -_-

  • Rhys Moyses

It means the words Final and Fantasy are English words and the word Mevius is Italian.

This is an assumption. Correct me if I am wrong

  • Randy Marsh

We already have Tredecim, its called Dissidia Final Fantasy….

  • Michieie

    Spin-off?

  • Krijn van Alten

XII was already in production when they announced X-2, XIII during XII and XIV during XIII. So it’s even possible that they already had ideas about XVI on the moment that they announced FNC.

  • Krijn van Alten

Or maybe it’s part of that compilation of XV, where Nomura an Hashimoto where talking about. It’s not very likely in my opinion that Final Fantasy XVI should be called other than Final Fantasy XVI. And Dissidia is a possibility, but even then I think that a sequel will be called Final Fantasy (subtitle) Dissidia, since we already had Dissidia Duodecim Final Fantasy.

So, I think that most probably it’s something completely new. And since most experimental FF’s appear on the mobile phones. So my hopes for a console title are not that high to be honest.

  • Krijn van Alten

    They need to make XVI!

  • Krijn van Alten

So, time for Dissidia Quindecim: Final Fantasy, or even Dissidia Sedecim: Final Fantasy!

  • Krijn van Alten

    If it’s good, why not?

  • Krijn van Alten

And most of them are useless, apart from Final Fantasy Dimensions.

  • Wazi the pa

    Really???? D:

  • Iceygames

I thought it was latin for something and it translate to Ludwig… So maybe it’s a FF game for wii u lmao jk
but seriously can we get some love because we’re long overdue for a real FF game, FFCC Crystal Bearers had potential but they limited the main character and it felt like 1/4 a real FF game. I’ll take 3/4 of FF game but that was just unfair square

  • Krijn van Alten

If you are talking about ‘we’ that you talking about people who own a Nintendo console?

  • Krijn van Alten

It is also interesting to note that this is a trademark for Europe. Could this possibly mean that this will me the European name of Type-0? To be honest, I never really liked the name Type-0 so I am fine with Mevius Final Fantasy instead.

  • Mihel

    Anyone remembers Final Fantasy Haeresis?
    No?
    Good.

  • Mihel

    Mevius is not italian.

  • Krijn van Alten

I do? It was actually Final Fantasy XIII Haeresis and it was trademarked short after the E3 show in 2006 where FNC was announced. A logo with only the words was revealed as well. But they never talked about it since and in 2011 the trademark expired without any renewal.

When I think about it, FNC could have been fine. Thee different Final Fantasies, 2 on the PS3 and one on the PSP. Why did they have to come up with name changes and unwanted sequels. If they make another compilation project (the are already talking on expanding XV), rule number one: stick to your original plan after you announced it to the public.

But what had Haeresis to do with this? You think Mevius will follow the same fate?

  • Krijn van Alten

    No, not really of course.

  • Krijn van Alten

Also not as name? Is has a very roman sounding quality in it.

  • Iceygames

yeah, I know of Nintendo and Squares history but I mean seriously the way I see it is Square doesn’t care much for Nintendo. They only see profit in their systems, especially the handhelds. We already know the handheld market in JPN is better the consoles. However, elsewhere more people own a 3DS than a Vita (Not to say that the Vita is beating out the 3DS in JPN)
so Square takes that into account and puts there handheld games usually on Nintendo’s portable system.
I mean it’s not something they always do but it seems like it happens a lot and it’s only because of money.

Speaking of which I wonder why didn’t they put KH1.5 and 2.5 on Vita o.O

  • Iceygames

“Anyone remembers Final Fantasy Haeresis” I was thinking the same thing but that was another FNC XIII game and I’m sure they’re done with that Mythos or at least for now

  • Krijn van Alten

Not really. they are already talking about expanding the story to other devices, the Vita for example. And since XV is a part of the FNC mythos, a expanding of that story is also part of it.

  • Jesus Christ

    Yes, really of course.

  • Krijn van Alten

Alright, summon for me a giraffe in my back garden right now.

  • Mihel

Absolutely not a roman name. Latin perhaps, as many names of the first case of the second declension end in -us; but absolutely not italian nor roman.

  • Mihel

Yup, I was thinking this Mevius will follow the same fate of the Haeresis, Type-1, Type-2 and Type-3 trademarks, which were not really announced officially nor ever talked about by SE itself but only “discovered” by gaming sites that offered FF coverage.

On a side note, I distinctly remember the original FNC project was supposed to have six titles (in 2006 some speculated one of those could have been a movie in the same style as FF7:AC)…

  • Mihel

I think they are done with the XIII part of FNC, but XV, Type-0 and Agito are still part of the mythos.

  • Krijn van Alten

That is true. But don’t forget that XIII-2, LR and Agito (+) can be seen as this titles. But to be honest I think that the fate of XIII Haeresis shows that they left the whole concept, so it’s not applicable any longer.

It’s a shame really, because I really liked the original concept. I still hope that in a future FF they come up with such a concept again, but than stick to the plan!

  • Krijn van Alten

It’s probably just Pseudo Latin. And also very likely end up to be something new for the mobile phone, since that is the fashion today.

  • Mihel

Yeah, the FNC mythos was really interesting as it gave some base mythology but every director expanded it in its own way in the games. Glad each of them feels vastly different from one another and they do not look nor feel same-y.
I especially liked Etro and her gate of death, the l’Cies, ‘sleep’/crystal stasis, the focus, ‘seeing the light’ as a result of a near-death experience/seeing your focus when you are branded l’Cie and all of those concepts that set FNC apart from usual FFs.

  • Krijn van Alten

XV might have been a bit of an exception, but almost a trend in FF that every new entry cost more time to develop than its direct predecessor.

  • Krijn van Alten

I think that the made the project to large. Creating three completely different words cost an enormously amount of time and money. So, say they want to do this again for a future FF then this is what they should do: create one world and base different games on this one world and let this games vary in time (in another period on the same world) and/or in topography (another place on the same world). In that way, you can reuse some of the same elements (places, enemy’s, persons).

And you can also make a connection between the game. Like, in game one, which place a long time ago, something happened which has influence on the situation in game 2 and 3 1000 years later, but on some different regions on the planet, only partly overlapping. And than you can make a Advent Children like film for the conclusion. Wouldn’t that be great?

  • Krijn van Alten

It depends on the system. Since they became SE they are interested in the Nintendo handhelds. But that is logical, because Ninendo handhelds selling good. That is unfortunately not always the cause with there consoles.

Another problem is the difference in power. The PS4 and the One are more ore less comparable to each other. The Wii U on the other hand is definitely not. So, If you are making a game for the PS4, its relatively easy to port it to the one, but not that easy to put it on the Wii U. And the other way around counts the same: if you make a Wii U game and you want to port it to the PS4/One, than you have to upgrade it. And that costs time. It is all to costly and/or to risky.

  • Iceygames

Well what I mean I meant was more of the fact I doubt they want to expand off of it with new games but I’m more XV games are coming as well.

@MihelZed:disqus I’m sure at some point they will follow through and release FF Type-1.2,3 and so on just as they planned too.

As for bringing the mythos to Vita, that wouldn’t be a bad idea, if you’re saying XV will be coming to Vita then I high doubt that but I can see them bring something to Vita if they don’t end up over looking the system.

  • Krijn van Alten

Can you rewrite that sentence please, because it´s a bit of a mess of words now.

  • Iceygames

    woah it really was o.O

Well what I mean I meant was more of the fact I doubt they want to expand off of it with new games but I’m more XV games are coming as well.

    equals

Well I guess what I mean is that they want to leave the FNC alone with making new games for it. However, I can still see FFXV coming out with more games and Type 1,2,3 and so on coming out in the future

  • Krijn van Alten

If Type 0 will bacome a succes in the west, there is no doubt in my mind that SE will come up with a sequel. And they already mentioned the possiblity of XV pre/inter/sequels multiple times already so there is defenitly something comming.

  • Iceygames

Good news then, well I just hope they’re smart about how they continue things.
