Final Fantasy XIV gets a 14 day free trial on PS3 and PS4

Starting today, players looking to check the ins and outs of Final Fantasy XIV can do so free of charge with the arrival of limited trial version on the PlayStation Store.

Available for both PS3 and PS4, the trial allows for 14 days of play for free, and once you create and level a character you can take your data with you into the final game. Unlike the full version, trial version participants will be limited to characters capped at level 20. In-game currency is also restricted to 20,000 gil and players will be unable to trade, use shout chat, or buy any items from the Market Board. Free trial users also cannot invite other members to their party, although they can join existing ones created by other players. Of course, all of these restrictions are removed upon subscribing the final version.

A trial for the PC version can also be downloaded from here.

Additionally, two PlayStation themes have become available – one for PS3 and one for PS4 – both online for free. The PS4 theme in particular includes several Final Fantasy themed icons and background music from the in-game location, Waking Sands. Square Enix has also released a video chronicling its current “Starlight Celebration” seasonal event, depicting a Final Fantasy XIV Winter Parade.
