Final Fantasy developers to begin college lecture tour

Starting at the end of this month, Square Enix is set to partner with both Southern Methodist University (SMU) in Plano, Texas and University of Southern California (USC) in Los Angeles in an effort to bring their own developer know-how to students through special college lectures.

The lectures will focus on Final Fantasy Type-0 and feature Yusuke Naora and Kazuyuki Ikumori, both of whom have served prominent roles in the company. Naora, who worked as art director for Type-0 and other titles such as Final Fantasy X, will be attending SMU’s Guildhall satellite campus on February 26, 2015 to talk about the visuals in the series. Then, on March 12th at USC, as the general manager of Visual Works, Ikumori will shed light on the company’s CG production process.

“We’re excited to take the opportunity to speak to students in game development programs that will shape the future of our industry,” said Hajime Tabata, director of Final Fantasy Type-0 HD and Final Fantasy XV. “We believe that it will be stimulating for us to learn from the students’ experience as well.”

For those unable to attend in person, Square Enix will also be broadcasting each lecture in its entirety to be viewed on Twitch. The eventual link – free for everyone – can be found here.
