Dissidia Final Fantasy will launch in arcades with 14 characters at first By Erren Van Duine on April 13, 2015 at 10:01 AM

During a livestream this morning Square Enix confirmed the Dissidia Final Fantasy arcade release will launch initially with 14 base characters – likely one from each released mainline title so far – with further inclusions to be added down the line.

This is nothing new for the arcade scene and Square Enix plans for there to be 50 playable characters eventually through the addition of post-release updates. So far we know that the following characters have been confirmed:

  • Warrior of Light (Final Fantasy I)
  • Onion Knight (Final Fantasy III)
  • Terra Branford (Final Fantasy VI)
  • Cloud Strife (Final Fantasy VII)
  • Lightning (Final Fantasy XIII)
  • Y’Shtola (Final Fantasy XIV)
  • Ramza Beoulve (Final Fantasy Tactics)

Square Enix has also updated us with a lengthy gameplay video showing off characters like Cloud and Tina as well as the usable summon, Ifrit. Check it out below.

  • The video plays smooth in 60FPS. Damn good!

  • I swear to god that if this game has 3 v 3 onlineplay this it’s gonna kill it.
..I mean the arcade version most likely works like that and with it running on PS4 tech I’m sure they’ll implement it. Otherwise it’ll be such a miss opportunity.

  • Sathil

I wonder if the summoning is replacing EX bursts or if its simply just not ready. Although seeing Onion Knight in his mage and ninja forms, it looks like it might be a planned feature unless Onion Knight got reworked.

  • FF tactics? Wow, didn’t see that coming…
