Final Fantasy VII (PC port) for PS4 releasing in October [Updated] By Red Makuzawa on June 22, 2015 at 9:00 AM

UPDATE: Square Enix has now removed the date from their sites and have confirmed that the date listed was a mistake. In an official statement sent to Nova Crystallis, the publisher said: “We can confirm that the published release date for this title is incorrect. As discussed at this year’s E3, Final Fantasy VII will be ported to the PlayStation 4 in Winter 2015. The pricing has already been announced last December to be set at $15.99.”

We’ll be sure to update everyone on an official date when it does become available.

ORIGINAL: Square Enix has announced that the PC port of Final Fantasy VII will be releasing on PS4 in North America and Europe on October 16th, 2015 for $15.99/£12.99/€15.99.

Announced this past December, Square Enix recently revealed the game will be releasing some time this Winter on Sony’s latest platform, following a release on iOS this Summer.

17$! Jesus Christ…. that’s expensive for such an old game, 10$ should be the max.

  • James Stine

$7 is too rich for your blood?

  • stevenm281

    its not 7, its 17.

And it’s not the fact that it’s too expensive for my finance, I can easily pay it, its the fact that its a 1997 game, with very minor little improvements that does not justify the price, I would even give 12$, but not more than that.

Most of us already bought the game many times (original version twice for me due to it being stolen from me, PC version, PSN release). I’m not buying this.

  • James Stine

You missed my point. You said $17 is too much but $10 is okay (max granted). So, why is $7 so much money that it should only be $10 max?

    >I’m not buying this.

That’s fine, most people that aren’t really big fans of FFVII will be buying this anyways. Most people wouldn’t justify paying any money for it because they likely have the game already.

  • Red Makuzawa

Edit: Sorry about the confusion. It will actually cost $15.99, not $16.99.

  • stevenm281

its expensive for the value of the product, not the price itself.

If it would be 9.99$ up to 11.99, I’d be temped to buy it again to give some money to Square Enix to fund the remake, but I won’t pay more than this for a game that I already own.

  • The Paul

12.99. Bargain! I’ll be buying it again 🙂

  • David

By that logic they could charge you $8 for a one dollar slice of pizza. And you would have to pay it, because what’s $7, right?

  • EliParker

Anyword on SE updating the PC version? I would like FFVII to have great controller support and an overall better port.

  • stevenm281

he said, if a 1$ pizza would be billed to you at the amount of 8$, would you still pay for it because what’s 7$ extra in a budget?

Or you’d tell the seller that the pizza is not worth more than 1$ and you shouldnt pay 8$?

  • James Stine

How do you value the slice of pizza to be $1 though? That’s the whole point. If you say the slice of pizza is $1, is it actually worth $1? No one will ever sell you something and not make a profit off of it, there is some margin that is taken for profit which will differ depending on a number of variables.

Your comparison with a slice of pizza and a video game are completely different. They are two separate products, and one is designed to be consumed once and shat out later while the other can provide entertainment for an indefinite amount of time.

Regardless, the price is going to be interpreted differently as it’s subjective in many ways.

  • James Stine

I understand your point, I don’t really think it’s overpriced though. Games cost less today than they ever had in years as it stands already.

  • James Stine

Sorry, that was my mistake, I had just woken up and completely skipped the part where he said “one dollar pizza”.

  • David

The “worth” of something is a personal statement. When steven said he wouldn’t pay $17 for the game, it means that -for him- it’s not worth $17, therefore it doesn’t matter if $7 if a small or large ammount, if he would pay a maximum of $10 for the game, he wouldn’t pay $10.01 for it (otherwise he would not behave as an homo economicus). It’s part of a subject called revealed preferences, really interesting to read about 😉

  • James Stine

Of course, that’s why I said:

    >Regardless, the price is going to be interpreted differently as it’s subjective in many ways.

At the end of my comment.

  • CocaineCowboyFF7

Doesn’t it have graphical improvements? I was told it was a HD port.

  • stevenm281

its the same textures as the original version, just upscaled, so while yes it is somehow HD, its not new graphics or anything of that matter.

Date is incorrect btw, according to Gematsu:

Update: Square Enix has sent us the following statement.

“We can confirm that the published release date for this title is incorrect. As discussed at this year’s E3, Final Fantasy VII will be ported to the PlayStation 4 in Winter 2015. The pricing has already been announced last December to be set at $15.99.”

  • Why bother buying this version when you can get the remake? Yes I realize that is YEARS away but there are plenty of awesome games on PS4 that will keep you occupied during the wait. Keep the $15.99 for DLC or something.

  • shrump

I thought Steam already has a PC port for Final Fantasy VII? I’m confused.

  • Caliburn

I don’t get it. We already have FFVII on PC. What is all this talk about a PC port. I don’t… what?

  • asadad

Just shut up already, you’re wrong.

  • James Stine

Wrong about what? No, I’m not wrong. Anything that I’ve said which is factual evidence is true, most of this has been a subjective opinion about the price of video games.

    Fuck off.

  • Vincent Manuel

I buy it fix its the Best ff ever
