Take a drive with Final Fantasy XV: new gameplay, screenshots and artwork from PAX By Erren Van Duine on August 31, 2015 at 9:22 AM

Square Enix has released a wealth of new media this morning, further confirming Final Fantasy XV will launch some time in 2016.

During an Active Time Report this past weekend at PAX Prime, the company shared new information on the game including concept art and screenshots, giving players a glimpse at Caem, a secret outpost near the sea that acts as a port for traveling between continents, as well as a closer look at the game’s driving features.

Additionally, fans were shown a video message from Avalanche Studios Co-Founder and Chief Creative Officer Christofer Sundberg who shared his thoughts on a potential collaboration between their studio and Square Enix Japan. “We’re proud of our technical capabilities and the work we’ve done to help shape the open-world genre,” said Sundberg. “We hold the Final Fantasy franchise, and the team working on it, in such high regard and are excited to be a part of the next chapter.”

For those looking forward to the next bit of information, Square Enix will be hosting its next ATR at Tokyo Game Show where director Hajime Tabata plans on revealing more details on Luna and Regis as well as a look at the game’s fishing mini-game and chocobos.

While we’re still without a full release date, the company will be holding a special event in March 2016 to detail their launch plans. More information on this event will be revealed at a later time.

Seriously, the visuals enough bring such a strong atmospheric setting. Top it off with ambient sounds and it’ll be just beautiful.

  • Felipe Medeiros

Thats a feature i will not be using. Hate the car, will only use chocobos or foot

  • Sigurd Simensen

wish the auto-drive comes a little afterwards in the game. being able to drive the car is part of the experience.

Personally, I’m well pleased with the wealth of info given out at this event. I suspect that tower/ lighthouse structure has something to do with Siren from the “Myth” concept art.. But then again, they aren’t revealing many plot details (A good thing!), so it could be just about anything.

nothing forces you to auto-drive, you can manually drive if you want.

  • Catoblepas

Good luck on your car-less FFXV playthrough and getting past Duscae!

  • Felipe Medeiros

You say as if it take hours and hours…

  • stevenm281

so what? I intend to use the car from time to time, but I will still venture on foot to discover every corner of this massive world.

Anyway, who cares how many hours a player put into a game? Its his/her time and the more hours he/she puts into, the better worth his/her money he’ll/she’ll be getting.

  • Sigurd Simensen

I mean that it would be better, imo, if you had to drive manually to a destination you haven’t yet unlocked to unlock the auto-drive option to that place.

  • stevenm281

its one way to see it, but Tabata mentioned in the past that when Noctis is a passenger, discussions will occur between the characters, so in a sense, being a passenger will have its advantage when you decide to travel by car.

Noctis will have to drive manually chocobos and other mode of transports like Magitech Armor.

  • Noctis

    good for you

  • James Stine

The car is but one of the ways you can transport. For instance, you can ride on a train to get from city to city. You could walk anywhere you want to go, you could also drive the car sit in the back and enjoy the ride while you enjoy the scenery and look up something online or talk with someone. Or, take the wheel as Ignis and drive yourself across the map. Ready to get out and go on the hillside or into the forests, get a Chocobo and ride that instead. And what about fast travel across the globe, then you can use the airships to travel and look across the entire world at a great distance at all the features below.

For anyone who honestly thinks that the car is the only transportation method and somehow the core experiences that made Final Fantasy what they are are dead because of this, you are delusional to say the least…

  • Jesus Christ

Y’all know I’m quite critical of Final Fantasy XV news recently.

BUT, I gotta say, this video is very nice. The scenery is just gorgeous. I love the open-worldness of the game. Yassss gurl getcho life!

  • Wazi the pa

Noctis & crew and even the chocobos will get tired though…… 😉

  • Felipe Medeiros

Them i rest with tehm or just stick in the same place till they feel better.

  • Sigurd Simensen

just read an article about the size of the world. if it is accurate then i wish you good luck with that sir.

  • stevenm281

at least he’ll be getting his money worth, spending 60$+ on a game and finishing it in less than 40 hours is a waste of money.

  • Sigurd Simensen

not for my part, given that the game delivers of course. the map just seemed ridiculously big, and I just imagined it would be torture to go without the car, but hey we all have our own way of experiencing a game.
