Nomura talks Kingdom Hearts 0.2 using Kingdom Hearts III tech and more in Famitsu magazine

Tetsuya Nomura shared some new details about Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8: Final Chapter Prologue in an interview with Famitsu magazine this week. We learned that the story of Kingdom Hearts 0.2 will be set immediately after the events shown in the secret movie of Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep – which just like the trailer suggested – will follow Aqua as she goes through the world of darkness.

Kingdom Hearts 0.2 will be a short episode that totals the amount of one whole Disney world in Kingdom Hearts and the team plans to share those elements with Kingdom Hearts III. Kingdom Hearts III is going to take a little longer, so they decided they wanted to give this to the fans to experience how Kingdom Hearts III’s world will feel much sooner. When the interviewer asked about an exact time frame for the collection, he couldn’t reveal it yet since Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8: Final Chapter Prologue and Kingdom Hearts III are being developed alongside each other, and some parts in the collection use the same technology which is still currently in the works.

Nomura also commented on why the collection is only available on PS4 and not also on PS3 – saying that it’s supposed to be a prologue to Kingdom Hearts III and as previously mentioned it uses the same technology as that title, specifically Kingdom Hearts 0.2 and Kingdom Hearts: Back Cover.

He also confirmed that Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance HD on PS4 is basically a remake due to the original being on two screens.

Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8: Final Chapter Prologue is set to release next year.
