Square Enix has released a new batch of World of Final Fantasy screenshots giving us more details on the characters and Mirages – or monsters in the game. For those of you that missed the World of Final Fantasy Jump Festa 2016 trailer, you can watch it here. These screenshots were featured in this week’s issue of Famitsu magazine as well, but this is the first time we’re seeing them in direct feed. Thanks Gematsu for translating the new information.

• Characters

Lann (voiced by Soma Saito)

Reynn’s twin brother. He is a bright and energetic boy. He can be of a bit of a dunce sometimes, but surprisingly cool when it’s important.

Reynn (voiced by Sora Amamiya)

Lann’s twin sister. She’s Lann’s exact opposite, doing everything with caution. One way or another, she usually tends to show her smarts.

Both Lann and Reynn are without their memories and each carry a mysterious power in one of their arms. When that power is awakened, a piece of armor appears on their arms.

Tama (voiced by Ayana Taketatsu)

Lann and Reynn’s travel companion. As a navigator and someone the twins can depend on, Tama teaches them various things.

Warrior of Light from Final Fantasy (voiced by Toshihiko Seki)

Cornelia’s legendary Warrior of Light. In the wake of a certain incident, he appears in Cornelia.

Cloud from Final Fantasy VII (voiced by Takahiro Sakurai)

A soldier who wields the giant “Buster Sword.” In “The Town of Ancient Books,” he helps those involved in a certain incident.

Lightning from Final Fantasy XIII (voiced by Maaya Sakamoto)

A female warrior who helps Lann and Reynn out of a critical situation. She tosses enemies about like a flash of light with her quick movements.

Princess Sarah from Final Fantasy (voiced by Yoko Asagami)

The princess of Cornelia. She doesn’t stand down when her country is in a dilemma, and would enter a battlefield full of enemy soldiers.

Yuna from Final Fantasy X (voiced by Mayuko Aoki)

A female summoner who controls Valefor. She for some reason refers to Lann and Reynn as “people who caused the calamity.”

Sherlotta from Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Echoes of Time (voiced by Marina Inoue)

A girl who runs the Sherlotta Inn, a place for relaxation and refreshment for travelers in the freezing cold.

Faris Scherwiz from Final Fantasy V (voiced by Rie Tanaka)

A pirate boss anchored at Saronia Harbor. She is a valiant fighter who controls the sea dragon Syldra.

■ An Adventure with Mirages

Players will walk alongside the Mirage monsters they befriend in the fields, as well as be able to ride the bigger Mirages. You can discover treasures, get past obstacles blocking the way, and more. By riding bigger Mirages, you might be able to move around more quickly than walking normally. You can freely get on and off Mirages.

■ Befriend Mirages

Lann and Reynn have a mysterious power dwelling in each of their arms that lets them befriend Mirages. By weakening a Mirage encountered in battle, it’s possible to “Gemify” the Mirage. When you Gemify a mirage, you can befriend them and have them fight alongside you in battle. You can also freely rename the Mirages you befriend.

■ Battle

World of Final Fantasy uses the Active Time Battle system. The order of actions appears on the ATB bar, and players will be able to input commands when their character reaches the topmost part of it.

Stacking

Players can stack Mirages on top of each other. Doing this will unite their individual abilities, power them up, and unlock various abilities.

Unstacking

Alternatively, you can also fight unstacked. This allows each Mirage to act independently, increasing their number of actions and making Action Points easier to accumulate.

Size

The size of the protagonists and Mirages are important when it comes to stacking. From the bottom up, you need to stack Large, Medium, and Small sizes. When big, the protagonists are a Large size, and when small, they’re a Medium size.

■ Mega Mirage Summons

While they can’t be used as party members in battles, Lann and Reynn can summon Mega Mirages, ultra powerful Mirages, during battle by using Action Points. When you summon a Mega Mirage, the other party members temporarily withdraw, and the Mega Mirage will remain in battle until Lann and Reynn’s Action Points are used up. The same Mega Mirage can only be summoned once per battle.

■ Mirage Evolution

By fighting enough in battle, your Mirages can transform and evolve. This is called “Henshinka” in the game.

■ Mirage Introductions

Young Chocobo (Small Size)

A child Chocobo with a piece of an egg shell still on its head.

Ifree (Medium Size)
A beast that uses fire techniques and can evolve into Ifrit.

Chocobo (Medium Size)

A bird that can’t fly but is quick on its feet. They’re convenient for mounting.

Ahriman (Large Size)

A bat with a big eye and wings that can let out various techniques from its eye.

Magitek Armor (Large Size)

A machine that moves by magic and can fire a beam from its lens.

Sandworm (Large Size)

A large worm who lives in the desert. It utilizes its large build for earth-based attacks.

Behemoth (Large Size)

A beast with a high powered heavy counter and powerful horns.

Fenrir (Large Size)

A monster who lives in cold areas. He hunts down his prey with quick attacks and “blizzards.”
