Final Fantasy XV, World of Final Fantasy set for Taipei Game Show this month By Erren Van Duine on January 14, 2016 at 5:02 PM

Update: The Final Fantasy XV presentation is confirmed not to be the January 2016 Active Time Report in a tweet from the game’s official Japanese Twitter profile. Additionally, the tweet also states that the contents from the Final Fantasy XV presentation will differ from the contents for the Active Time Report.

Original story below as follows

Sony Computer Entertainment Taiwan today revealed plans for Taipei Game Show – which is set to run from January 29th through February 2nd this year – and include a selection of stage events from popular overseas creators.

Among them, director Hajime Tabata will be showing off a bit of Final Fantasy XV while producer Shinji Hashimoto will take part in a game demonstration along with director Hiroki Chiba for World of Final Fantasy.

On January 31st both games will be on display at the PlayStation booth starting from 11:00 local time (10PM EST on January 30th) where Tabata will kick off his hour-long presentation to share with players worldwide the latest news on Final Fantasy XV. Then at 13:00 local time (12AM EST) Hashimoto and Chiba will go on stage for 35 minutes to talk more on World of Final Fantasy.

It’s unknown if this is the date of the promised “late January” Active Time Report but we expect Square Enix to make a formal announcement as we close in on the end of the month. Last year at TPGS details from a similar stage event were shared a few days later in their own dedicated ATR so it’s likely the same thing could happen here, perhaps even reversed.

  • Sounds great! I can’t wait until the ATR!

    !!!

  • They’re really coming out guns blazing with XV this year and it’s apparent that they want the gaming world to be buzzing about it. They seem to have a lot of faith in their product and that’s all the better for us. This has been an extremely difficult task for them and now it seems that they want to reap the benefits. This should begin once we get to see the game in its ‘truest’ form. I am incredibly curious and excited.

  • This is good. Maybe it’s time to see more magic and guns and new skills. If the release date is gonna be told in March, they could at least show us more skills and magic during this.

  • Yuntu

Yup, I expect some crazy marketing starting in March – just like XIII had.

  • SOMEONEWHOSDISSAPOINTED

Im really worried about the story of this game..

  • CocaineCowboyFF7

    Why?

  • SOMEONEWHOSDISSAPOINTED

Because I loved what I saw on FF Versus XIII, all Insomnia, the characters, the darkness, intensity and focus on human drama, now I really love what Tabata has crafted with the gameplay here, he has created a masterpiece of game features, the story however, was another gem, I know we didn’t see enough of it, but if we loved it the moment we saw it, then it wouldve been no different in the full package.
Nomura did create a better Noctis, but instead of modifing the story so it can fit in a full game (as he promised), he completely did as he pleased with the story, changing it from the ground up and just keeping some things of Versus, he made the game much much lighter, he changed the villain, everything, he even said himself that the story will be simpler than the original and will even NOT focus on human drama or analysis of it.
I really despise him for it, he crafted a gem of a gameplay but kept us waiting more time so that he can create a worst story for us? Well not for us, for me..

  • stevenm281

it does focus on human bonds, friendship, family, love, he never said anything about removing the drama. Plus, Tabata did nothing to the story, that was Nomura and Nojima. The villain didn’t change either… Noctis didn’t change either…

  • SOMEONEWHOSDISSAPOINTED

    http://www.gameinformer.com/b/features/archive/2015/09/04/tabata-final-fantasy.aspx

On the question: ”I would say that’s accurate, I consider perhaps I-VII to be my favorites in the series, but I’m extremely curious as to where Final Fantasy XV will take the series”. Read his reply.

You should read the whole interview tbh..

  • stevenm281

Speaking with GameInformer, Tabata explained a big part of the game will focus on the bonds shared between parent and child in addition to the bonds of friendship we’ve already seen between Noctis and his friends. For example, the car so prominently seen in much of the game’s media is actually owned by Noctis’ father and serves as a “sort of the metaphor representing the relationship between Noctis and his father through the car.”

  • Krijn van Alten

Look his name, he is just a negative Nancy complaining about everything.

  • James Stine

What the fuck are you talking about? When did they ever say they changed the villain or any of this shit? You are completely misinformed, dude.

  • James Stine

Uh, what does that have to do with anything?

  • Adam Hedquist

Yes, You are completely misinformed. Or you just can’t take in the correct information.

  • Noctis

hahaha….that`s even harder this way 😀

  • Nick Greeley

This game needs to have FFVII-level marketing

  • oNionKnight08

Highly misinformed. We even actually know more about FFXV under Tabata than FFVersusXIII under Nomura. Even Stella was already changing during the E3 re-reveal. From meeting Noctis for the first time in a party to a childhood friend in the very first seconds of that trailer. (Which leads me to believe it was already Luna)

  • Yuntu

XIII had VII level of marketing, it was fucking everywhere.

  • Yuntu

How did Nomura create a better Noctis when Noctis is still the same? The fuck? We don’t even know anything for the story from vXIII except some teases and hints from Nomura, so how can anyone say it changed. We don’t know shit.

And as for human drama, not focus =/= removed. Just because Tabata has a different way of talking about this game doesn’t mean he changed everything up. And that’s the most important thing, Tabata is a completly different person compared to Nomura – he talks extremly different in interviews compared to Nomura. He is way more open and direct yet doesn’t want to tell us too much. So my point is just because Tabata doesn’t go deep into certain stuff you want doesn’t mean it’s removed. What they removed/changed they clearly adressed: it’s Stella that got changed to Luna, the order of events has changed a bit, Regis design got changed and no reaper praising for a better raiting.

  • CocaineCowboyFF7

    >I know we didn’t see enough of it, but if we loved it the moment we saw it, then it wouldve been no different in the full package.

Uh, no. You saw a couple scenes and a brief synopsis of the story, how could you possibly assume that you would like the whole story based of that? Don’t be silly now.

  • I hope they reveal new characters soon because the game is nearing release and I still don’t know who the red-haired umbrella man is.

  • ミカを大好き

yeah, I liked his voice and appearance

  • Yuntu

Isn’t that good that we don’t know who he is? I like playing story driven games with nearly no info beforehand. Though a name for him would be nice.

  • SOMEONEWHOSDISSAPOINTED

The couple scenes looked thematically darker but enough of this shit i get the point, i still havent seen the full package but its just that I love these games so much i dont want people to mess up with extremely important factors like Story Mode..

  • SOMEONEWHOSDISSAPOINTED

Those small details were really precious to me, they seemed authentic and dark and deep, but its just that I love FF so much, i hate the idea of someone fucking up something as important as the story, what he has said so far has pissed me off a lot, but i know i have to wait its just.. I loved FF Versus a lot.
I hate Luna, her role as an Oracle is way too similar to Yuna and the aspect of death and sleep in the game is not as present now as it was before, that was perhaps Versus’s main theme in terms of its world’s mythology.

  • SOMEONEWHOSDISSAPOINTED

Tell me my flaws in my arguments then, which information did i receive wrongly?

  • SOMEONEWHOSDISSAPOINTED

Perhaps I am, instead of the villain i meant the other changes but its just that the way he’s been saying everything, revealing things about the game then its making evident the fact that he changed the story himself, without Nojima or Nomura’s presence.

  • SOMEONEWHOSDISSAPOINTED

Yes but those scenarios are way too mainstream, lots of animes are full of it, Naruto, Fairy Tail, ”i got to protect my friends” ”Dad I love you” , not just animes the whole world is full of it, and its pathetic, its not innovative..
Versus said it was gonna analize human relationships but way more deeply, internal or family problems, human behavior as a whole, and philosophy as well, also Noctis and Stella were perhaps love interest and then had to fight each other, Versus had lots of tragedy and darkness, which i hope is not absent in FFXV..
Noctis at first was really silent, gloomy and dark, but Nomura changed him later on, for the better..

  • kfart

I agree! Just knowing base game mechanics is perfect. I feel as though anymore story details than what we got may spoil the experience later this year.. which makes me wary of how much will be shown in March.

  • Yuntu

I think Luna is a completly different character compared to Yuna, she has a way stronger character. I mean sure Yuna developed over the game, but the same might happen to Luna – so let’s wait before we judge her. And I really think the Stella in the E3 2013 trailer was already more Luna as before that it was never really mentioned Stella and Noctis are childhood friends.

And nowhere is it stated that the death and sleep isn’t there anymore. Atleast not that I know of. Yeah they removed the reaper worshipping but that was probably not Tabatas decision, atleast not if their reasoning is true. I get you are passionate but that’s no reason to kinda hate on Tabata for trying to get this game done as good as he can. I trust him, there’s a reason he was chosen for this (besides him being the Co-Director before it). And while I liked Nomuras approach I think it doesn’t fit for a maingame. I think his approach was perfect for a spinoff (as it was originally planned) like Type-0, because its so different. We all gotta remember that we, the people talking about it, are not the majority of buying the FF games. If we where XIII would’ve probably sold lower and so on. And the main audience for FF probably doesn’t expect something like what Nomura may had originally planned (though Nomura plans many things, that’s his problem and that’s why I think he shouldn’t be trusted blindly) for the franchise. Not everyone is as informed as we are unless the game is near its release, than more and more people will inform about the game we are getting.

I actually like that Tabata shows us the different side of the game, as Nomura only briefly mentioned the roadtrip theme (yes that’s his idea) and Tabata so far showed us that and teased the side Nomura mainly talked about. Like the epilog in the demo, that’s clearly like the stuff Nomura talked about. And I think FF doesn’t need to be pure darkness, it was also fun because there was always some comedy relief. And in this game it’s probably going to be delivered by character interaction after fights/while traveling and when you camp to rest. I think thats completly fine. Yes I would also like them to make a story-trailer to give us some visual stuff, but that’s about it. I also mainly blame the demo for the stuff they showed us thus for, I believe they will move away from that starting either with this in Januar or the March event. As usually the story gets talked about before release, because you don’t make any empty promises (another thing Nomura likes to do, though I like his optimistic view on that sometimes) and show whats actually going to happen.

  • Yuntu

They won’t show too much. They never did for a FF, I mean how much did we know of XIII before it released? I only knew the characters and how it looks, but that’s about it. And I was hyped as fuck back then.

  • James Stine

The story has been altered, yes, but that was bound to happen when you take something meant for multiple titles and try to condense all the important parts into a finished product. The Versus series was likely to contain multiple parts under Nomura’s direction, instead that is being reflected in FFVII.

Also, Tabata is the director, but he is not the developer, he does not design these things, there are lead roles in various sectors of development that make conscious decisions on their own that Tabata will approve/disprove as well as guide. However, keep in mind, Tabata has mentioned many times the structure of the division and that everyone is free to submit ideas within the department and everyone has a voice.

Tabata is not to blame for every decision in the game, everyone in that division is. They all make a decision together on how things go, there are plenty of people who worked on Versus still working on XV as well.

  • stevenm281

we’ll know about him this month as the ATR will focus on the enemies from the Niflheim empire and the magic system.

  • Jesus Christ

Will this bit going to be new or old?

  • Red Makuzawa

They said something about showing the “latest FFXV footage”, so perhaps they’ll bring new footage again this year.

  • stevenm281

Noctis and Stella were never meant to be in love, Nomura clarified this so many times during Versus days, he wanted a FF without a love story involved. They were childhood friends now enemies.

While Luna and Noctis are still childhood friends, they’re still friends to this day. The union of Noctis and Luna is not based on love, they’re friends and they want to unite their kingdoms, its business.

You keep saying Nomura would have delve deeper into the themes you mentioned, but he never gave any examples of this, so you don’t know that what’s in FF15 is not exactly how Nomura wanted it, if anything all the story changes were made while he still was at the helm, and then Tabata was put in charge and left with the task of announcing all those changes.

  • Jesus Christ

Oh my goodness y’all, Maku sent a tweet about this page comment section. I scrolled down and I got scared I scrolled back up.

Somebody get Me my Holy Bible and Holy Water. #Scared #Praying

  • stevenm281

??? scared of what? who’s Maku?

  • Jesus Christ

Red Makuzawa. I’m exaggerating, but the tweet referring to the negative Nancy y’all ganged up on.

  • stevenm281

I can’t find his tweet on Nova Crystallis twitter, what did he say?

  • Wazi the pa

Hey man, just to tell you that it’s okay to be worried but there’s nothing much to justify upon for you to be worried for it. New game, new story. Leave it at that. I suggest you wait to hear more concrete details to the story before jumping the gun.

  • Jesus Christ

Lol. It’s really not that serious, buddy! 😀

All he said was “That discussion in the comments though.” on his personal twitter account. Don’t worry, relax.

  • stevenm281

if you didn’t want people to care about your comment, you shouldn’t have brought it up then 😛

  • Red Makuzawa
  • stevenm281

ah! thx! Sorry for the “gangbang” 😛

  • Red Makuzawa

I thought what you all had to say was interesting. Just don’t go overboard and keep the discussion civil. I had to additionally tweet one of the comments that I agreed with basically almost everything he/she said: https://twitter.com/RedMakuzawa/status/688141452132536320
Maybe I should be more active in the comment section, lol.

  • stevenm281

While I did participate in the discussion, I don’t think I was one of the uncivilized individual. I think I tried to shed some light on the matter, that’s about it.

  • Jesus Christ

You should. It can get pretty scary here. But, good thing I have my Holy Water to repel them. 😀

  • Red Makuzawa

Oh, I wasn’t trying to call you out on that matter. I was saying it to basically everyone who comments here. It’s good that we have people like you that reply to those people and keep them up to date with the correct info.

  • Jesus Christ

I see wazi down there being really nice. Awww…

  • Red Makuzawa

You guys are doing fine without me being here to tell people what is right and wrong. I can’t promise I’ll comment in all these articles filled with comments, but I’ll try to read them at least. 🙂

  • stevenm281

well thank you Sir Makuzawa! I think it’s important to make sure that people get the right info so that they don’t keep badmouthing the game everywhere around them.

I want people to buy the game so that Square Enix makes a profit out of their product so that they keep making AAA FF games.

  • Red Makuzawa

That’s good to hear. I think it’s fine to share your thoughts on what was disappointing about what you just saw/read, just don’t push it into other people’s faces and hope that they completely agree with you. I do hope that this is going to be an amazing experience and does sells enough to make Square Enix profit. I talk about it so much on my Twitter (it probably annoys people, lol) as it is my most anticipated game. 🙂

  • stevenm281

its mine as well and my friends and relatives are getting impatient that this 10 years old wait of mine gets to an end so that I stop talking about it.

  • Red Makuzawa

Most of my friends at school just play PC (I don’t play that often) and don’t know anything about it. I know a few people in real life that are excited and aren’t that patient to get their hands on the game. I’m the only one around that probably can’t stop talking about it however. We are finally almost there.

  • stevenm281

    Just a little longer!

  • Guess what. This game’s gonna kick ass!

  • CallMeGod

It’s true that under Tabata we got to hear more information about FFXV because it was FFXV time. If Nomura was still director, I’m pretty sure we would got more information since we already know that the time to reveal more information on FF13Versus or FFXV has come since the trilogy of FF13 has come to an end and they had also finish the overhaul of FF14. Also, take into consideration that under Wada era as CEO, they were really secretive and wouldn’t allow Nomura to release information on FF13Versus since they wanted the audience to focus on FF13 trilogy and FF14 overhaul game.

  • CallMeGod

Actually Tabata did change the story of FF13Versus since it became FF15. He even brought a new writer to rewrite the script for FF15 while maintaining the main concept of FF13Versus written by Nojima.

  • stevenm281

its Nojima that modifed the story, not a new writer, verify the archives of this site! The changes were made with Nomura approval, during the transition to having Tabata as the new director. They explained all this.

  • Cruelmoose

So, i have this theory about the release date, but maybe its just wishful thinking.

Awhile ago now i read somewhere that tabata said in an interview that they are already betatesting or something like that. Even if not they are coming along very fast with the development as it appears to me. I mean summer release is very likely.

Here is my theory: What if they are going for something similar like Bethesda with Fallout 4. What if they will announce in march that FFXV will release in just a few months.
Or (my actual theory) that FFXV will release the day the presentation is in march or a few days later.

  • Tom

I like the idea. But I want them to take their time. We waited enough but a couple of months is enough to do enough polish that it changes a game from bad to good or from good to perfect.

  • Sanips

I have the same opinion, it seems they want to present the game almost finished to realise it only few month s after but like Tom, I wouldn’t mind a later realise to get a good polished game.

  • Yuntu

Same day as presentation would kill sales in my opinion, you can’t do that with an AAA game. No CE to preorder and stuff like that.

As for the development: They are actually coming along pretty fast, they so far met everything they planned in their planned time, that’s why they are so confident in a 2016 release date. My guess would also be on summer, though it wouldn’t be anything like Bethesda because they announced the game like what 6 months (?) prior to release and XV got (officially as XV) announced in 2013. So either way the wait was long. But I pressume summer 2016 it is and Persona 5 maybe gets delayed as a result (which results in a WW release for Persona as well …. hahahaha) … I would also be afraid of anything FF and DQ in Japan.

  • Yuntu

If it is the ATR they talked about then we gonna see this probably:

    http://gearnuke.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/12/ffxv-atr-january.jpg

  • I just hope when they say “based on reality” i can see a world with more than just whites and asians.

  • stevenm281

My wishful thinking: Game releases on April 12 in North America because its my birthday!

  • Martian Wong

Well, that depends on what aspect of reality they are looking at. What if within the universe of FFXV has whites and asians only?

  • Jesus Christ

What if within the universe of FFXV has whites and asians only?

    Then it’s not reality. LOL

  • Jesus Christ

If previous games are any indications and I think they are very good indicators, we’ll most likely see a lot of light skin and eyes peoples.

  • Yuntu

Well it seems like each state has a nationality to it. Altissia seems like Italy, Insomnia maybe Japan (I have no clue tbh) and that one city they showed in the TGS trailer, the one where Titan is I believe, also is based on some country – though I forgot which one.

  • Noctis

guys its like an anime game….so what do you excpect LOL

  • Mehmed

Okay, this means two stages this month or within the next 2 weeks.
Cool. The great things will come in march.

  • stevenm281

how cool is that! 2 events instead of one!!

  • Martian Wong

Well, their reality is different from yours? Come to think of it, I don’t see Asians complaining that there are no Asian in games made by America.

  • Its like a its like an India style southeat asia i think.

  • Yeah. Its like putting in flat out Cuban or African or Mexican places and people isnt PC enough for them. Only FF7 and 8 seemed to have them in masse. A few in 12.

  • So like all Tales games then. Worlds where even in the desert people are milky white and stil European in culture. Smh thats not reality, that laziness and favortism.

  • Jesus Christ

I think the issue here is that the term reality is vague. IF reality is defined strictly as realistic mirror to the real human work regarding races, weather, city, runes, etc, then what we see in this game so far is hundreds of miles far from reality. IF reality is loosely defined that only capture glimpses of what we have in the real world like certain cityscape of Tokyo, European facial features, photorealistic visuals then this game has it.

  • Jesus Christ

I don’t doubt we’ll see color people in this game, but it’s more like that token black guy sort of thing.

You know how we barely saw people of color in XIII when one of the main character is black? They barely tried.

  • Exactly. Sazh and Gadot. Thats mostly it.
Kiros was in 8. Barret in 7.
But most times they’ll just be scattered in yhe towns or not at all.
Based on reality means everyone’s reality right?

  • Jesus Christ

Right, I think their intention to say fantasy based on reality with more emphasis on fantasy. They create a game and the world with what they like and familiar with most.

I think there’s actual studies of people who describe or would draw people and their art would reflect their environment. If you live and grew up in a society that bias for fair skin, fair hair, fair eyes, refine nose, beautiful skin, pearly white perfectly aligned teeth, it’s very likely you’ll have that in your work. Have you ever taken to exam the teeth of the characters? They pretty much have the same model of small cute pearly whites perfectly aligned.

  • Martian Wong

Well, if video games are same as reality, we dont really need video games? Within our world as of right now, there are much more from race issues, to wars, rebellions, global warming. Developers have their own taste and limited resources to put things into the game. And by not putting things you want is called laziness? Favortism maybe but not laziness.

  • I’m just saying it hurts when their taste include only whites and asian people and culture.

  • I understand they have their own bias of beauty. I dont knock that. But for a whole race to be nixed from games just cause no one sees them as beautiful is painful to constantly put up with in jrpgs.
I grow up around black people but like anime. So i do both. I make stories like Captain Planet. A full range of culture and people based on lots of real races.
Do we really need another game where racism is a problem for half animal people but not latinos and blacks?

  • Yuntu

Yeah, I only remember they showed it in the country it is inspired from at a panel and I believe that one got livestreamed.

  • If theres even one place thats more than just european and asian ill be satisfied. But if they travel the world there should be plenty.

  • Jesus Christ

Well, one can make an argument race can be viewed as one point of beauty; that is, Square Enix has an unconscious view of which race of people (specially with light skin, hair, and eyes) is more aesthetically pleasing as main focus in the game.

Sazh is really a supporting main character. It’s not far fetched to say they never had plans to put him at the center of the story let alone front cover the game.

Do we really need another game where racism is a problem for half animal people but not latinos and blacks?

I think that’s a whole other conversation to have.

  • But still the likelihood of an asian character amongst white ones is still way higher than any other? Do they even feel bad about it? Do they care that brown people around the world like their games and want to be represented in them? In Valkyrie Profile there is lots of Norse and British characters but I think there at least one fish outta water samurai. Cyan is based on a Samurai. Edge and Shadow are based on ninja which are Japanese and Chines oriented. The same happens in Falcom and Tales games. There always lots of whites and a few asians mixed in as a subtle nod at their own people. Sometimes they’re even the underdog hero who overtime triumphs over the Adonis white rivals. But African and Latinos are usually non-existant or just brutes working as henchmen or slutty bar women or implied prostitutes.
When do you think this is going to end? I’m dead serious. I’m tired of playing these games I love and feeling shame as I do it. Like I’m wrong for loving these games that protray my own people as losers. Yet I still love the stories and characters. It’s a love-hate relationship. And I keep hoping that one day they’ll accept us and let my people be heroes in their games too (and not as Chris Tucker-ish bafoons or Mr.T knock off). But the years go on, I’m 30 now and it’s still the same.

  • Jesus Christ

How opportune is it that we are having this conversation which nicely parallel to another form of media/entertainment – Hollywood. Last week, the nation react as the Oscar nominations were announced and, little to no surprise, we are in another year of #OscarSoWhite. This is no coincidence. According to LA Times, “Oscar voters are nearly 94% Caucasian and 77% male… Blacks are about 2% of the academy, and Latinos are less than 2%.”.

Dr. Boyce Watkins, an African American author, economist, political analyst, and social commentator with a PhD in Finance made the following statement that really captures the big picture here: “you can’t move into someone else’s house and expect them to let you shift around the furniture.” He mentioned this in one of his YouTube videos regarding the lack of diversity in Hollywood and academia, but I surely this quote applies to any media with a lack of diversity. What we’ve known about Final Fantasy franchise really has been set in stones. To expect it to change anytime soon or in a major way is really wishful thinking. And surely there is a camp of people who argue that it’s not the developers’ responsibility to make a game that showcase a diversity of race. FF franchise is not made to power or make a statement about a social or political cause. To a lot of people, it’s just a game with very appeal music, visuals, and story. It is a just a fantasy after all; it’s ‘their’ art form. And a lot of us are very aware of this lack of diversity but we are willing to look pass it because we don’t play a FF game because it’s never been an intention to be a focus.

  • So its a lost cause. My people’s only choice is to make their lwn movies and games and books in order to be treated with respect. And in the mean time stop giving money to companies who couldn’t care less about anyone black or poor or considered ugly.

  • Jesus Christ

Well, I say this respectfully because I think it’s complicated. Again, this is a Japanese game made by Japanese people. Let’s use the movie analogy, again. Imagine living in China or India, during major film award shows, it’s not a surprise to see only films featuring Chinese (with more likelihood to honor martial arts film) or Indian (with more likelihood to honor Bollywood musicals) actors despite having minorities in their country. Yet, they don’t get a uproar we hear and see in USA and I think that has to do with the US’s unique history with slavery and this has to do more with films. So, back to FF games, it’s tricky because honestly, is it really their responsibility to change their (bias) creative art form? It is their game.

I don’t know what to say, honestly, because I can picture the hypothetical scenario in which a grassroot advocacy group successfully persuade Square Enix to make it a priority to showcase racial diversity (and perhaps among other requests) in future FF games to reflect its diversity of fans. But, no cause is without an effect. There is a fine line where that can be cross because this is “art”. Some may argue that for them to take the initiative to enforce this change may very well change FF – that they have to compromise ‘their style’ to please ‘your’ style’. I can already see how this will upset conservative fans who are so familiar and comfortable with FF as it is and is not bothered by the lack of diversity, because, as mentioned above, it’s really not a focus of the game. It’s one focus of the consumer/critic/fan social commentary of the game, though.

  • Thats why im its a lost cause. If it hasnt changed in all these decades then its time to support only games that do until latinos and africans have the power to makr their own rpgs that show everyone equally.
Even if its an art form people should try for equality in everything. At least try.

“Even if its an art form people should try for equality in everything. At least try”

This is such a ridiculous statement. Listen man equality is good and all but you need to understand what equality is. Equality is being equal to everyone else. That is why equality is such a ridiculous concept. Say your neighbor makes a dollar more an hour than you do and drives a slightly better car than you do. Are you equal? No you are not. Lets say he has two kids and you have one. Are you then equal? No of course not. 2 is not equal to one. Lets say you have a higher self esteem than your neighbor are you equals now? The answer remains no. Let me tell you how you become equal. Either you have to get a better job or the man has to be demoted to a lower paying job..then are you equal? No you also have to either conceive another child or have his child killed so that you both have one child each. Oh one is a boy and the other is a girl? Well damm then we have to do something to make them equal, either operate on one of the kids to change their sex or kill them both off since in the end one will be a natural born boy/girl and the other will be an artificial boy/girl thus them not being equal. Do you see what I mean? Equality is in theory a beautiful ideaology but it cant exist without massive repecussions. The mona lisa does not have a black woman painted nor a latino woman painted, yet no one is complaining about this. Because its art and art should be and is free , it allows one to express their ideals and views of the world. So enough with this rant you have going on about minorities and how we are not treated right. Equality is not real, even in white mans society there is no equality. You have the rich and the poor, the hungry and the full, the haves and the haves not. So just enjoy this game that you have been waiting for forever and just stop. Btw im a latino too.

  • i dont care if youre latino, whats your answer for people are always going to be seen as lesser than others? Whats your solution? Youre saying a lot but there is still no actual change in your statement. Its like youre saying just accept that that this is all theyll ever be? If i accept it and Im suffering then are you saying just accept suffering? i want the suffering to end. I want to enjoy myself while playing these games but i cant do that anymore. Im too old to ignore it and play in blissful ignorance .

Ill be very brief. This is the way of the world. Accept it or fight it thats your choice. But fighting it is pretty futile. The world is forever in a cycle. Believe me that if in at least one millenia no one has broken it then neither will you. But in brief as I said before you do as you please. Perhaps this is why we enjoy videogames so much. Its a fantasy that we can use their forget the cruelty of our world. Who knows?

  • cruelty of the world is subtlety mirrored in the games.

  • stevenm281

If you cannot play these games without suffering, maybe you should find something else, because forcing someone to do something just so that it ease your soul is not good because you’ll be causing them suffering.

A videogame is a product of art, and an artist is allowed to create the way he imagine and see things, his creativity can reflect anything, but does not have to include everything to please the mass, some people will enjoy his creation, others won’t, they can go satisfy their ideals with another creation, from the same or another artist. Society is in no way entitled to force their vision on artists.

If you want this concept of equality and reality which includes poors, riches, blacks, whites, latinos, asians, old, young, handicapped, homosexuals, etc., then maybe you should think of creating this product yourself or look somewhere else to find it, but don’t force an artist to change his creation just to suit your personal need.

  • i just hope that one day minorities can have their times in fantasy rpgs as heroes. if we have to make our own indie games to do it because no one else will, so be it. I waited long enough and not even my fav devs care at all.

  • Jesus Christ

    Steven, you gay!? Gurrll.

    Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!!! XD LOOOOL <3

  • Jesus Christ

This dream is not impossible. And you’re not alone. I’m sure there are amateur artist and video game makers out there who are willing to take the initiative and create a game with the point to focus on racial diversity (and maybe other types too).

The safe way to think about it is to let time unravel these projects. Let the creative minds organically build these video games for consumers like you out there.

  • Jesus Christ

I think it’s quite scary and sad that you put so much real world feelings into video games. I’d think the general population of players see a fine line between video game/fantasy world and real world. You gotta know how to pull back and say it’s just a book (excluding factual/nonfiction), it’s just a movie, it’s just a game.

If you really do suffer playing video games like FF because of a lack of diversity, I think that’s not healthy at all.

    Respectfully

  • I guess theres always that game by the skullgirls people, indivisible .

  • Jesus Christ

Perhaps that’s your silver lining, your ray of hope, your diamond in the rough.

  • Im in touch with reality . I kniw nit to obsess over game. Dont worry. Its just that even though i like these characters and worlds and games i always have this lingering thought that these world if they were real would be something my people wouldnt be allowed in. That the characters wouldnt accept us since theyre created with the mindset of real life people who dont like us. Its a haunting thought when you a fan of something or someone that hates or distrusts you. I like Nomuras work but would he even shake my hand? I like characters like FFs and Tales ones but if they live in a world devoid of Africans would if they were real even accept us as people. Its heartbreaking if you can be accepted by what you like.

  • anonymous

Your not in touch with reality. No one would form such arguments if they were. You have been told by several people to just let it go and yet you carry on. As steven said if you cant differentiate between reality and fantasy and if this game causes you so much pain then dont play it. The first step to fixing a problem is admitting that you have a problem. If you keep denying that your not obssesing over this game(which you are) then you will never fix your unhealthy obssesion.

  • Jesus Christ

I’m sorry, but I really believe you think to deeply into this that it grew into something bleak. It went completely left!

You’re basically implying that Nomura is possibly racist because his art doesn’t reflect real world diversity. Dude, no… this is dangerous thinking. This is not healthy. Don’t think like this! If you’re a fan, why wouldn’t he shake your hand? He never made gay characters (Vanille-Fang, debatable) doesn’t mean he’s homophobic.

Your post serves as an example of someone who doesn’t know how to pull back, someone who doesn’t know the fine line.

It took 1000 years before slavery was outlawed. And even now it still exists in some parts of the world. Change takes time, believe me you havent waited long enough.

  • Then ill be dead before anything happens.

  • Im not saying hes racist. I just worry that his culture as seen by in their entertainment may imply they dont want to deal with my people. it might be ingrained him subconsciously .

  • Jesus Christ

KOKAYI5, I know you mean well. But, I think you just unsuccessful backpedaled here. To say “I just worry that his culture as seen by in their entertainment may imply they dont want to deal with my people.” can arguably relate to racism (prejudice/discrimination). Come on. Let’s set that record straight here.

How about coming up with evidence before you make an scary statement like that let alone even an “implication”.

  • anonymous

Where in your culture do asian and europeans show up? Give me a latino made or african american directed movie that portrays them in a good light. See how ridiculous your statement is now? Of course its ingrained subconsciously just as the shows and movie you watch have ingrained their ideals into you as well.

  • TheNinjaMax

Whilst I mostly agree with you, even you admitted it’s an uphill battle. One of the biggest issues Japan has is that, unlike nations like Europe or the United States, Japan is culturally unanimous. And whilst they certainly are more receptive to Western ideologies and culture than, say, China, they aren’t as exposed to multi-culture as we are. When they do it, they have to rely on how WE even portray minorities — and when you have Mr. T caricatures, it is a bit unfortunate. Hell, even I’m not too happy about the lack of playable female characters in the game, but considering how historically Final Fantasy has been more-or-less better with female representation (and that still needs improvement), I let that slide for the most part for XV. I chalk it up to benign neglect, not necessarily being consciously spiteful to a particular demographic.

Least we can do is continue to bring that up to Square-Enix’s attention with their next games, keep the conversation going. And you’re doing your part, at least.

  • TheNinjaMax

De facto segregation perpetuated by cultural norms, most likely.

  • anonymous

    Exactly.

  • stevenm281

    lol

  • Jesus Christ

Hey KOKAYI5. Please be OK! OK?

I just want to have a calm conversation with you. You’re good. No ill feelings. The world is not all that bleak. There’s still terrible things, but let’s look on the bright side and acknowledge the progress.

  • if i was obsessed i would do anything else with my life. And i do plenty. This is just one thing that i admit causes discomfort . And for good reason.

  • But its just one game that will likely be forgotten in a years time

  • Jesus Christ

It’s all right. This too shall pass. Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us. Just please don’t over think it. I think it will make things rotten.

  • Jesus Christ

You need to count your blessing, buddy! 😉 So my buddy Kris on Twitter said Mass Effect focus on diversity, have you play that game?

  • TheNinjaMax

    Right here, dude…

  • stevenm281

Unfortunately, it’s not for good reasons, you create this illusion of racism, you say games hurt you by making you feel outcast, but in the end, you’re outcasting yourself as games are not meant to represent every aspect of reality.

Games/Tv shows/movies are abstract and they use fantasy and metaphors to give a perspective on reality.
Ex.: Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Season 6, Willow becoming obsessed with magic, turning evil, etc. Of course in reality, magic does not exist in the same way that it does in the show, but it is to represent drug obsession and the path it leads to. In the end, it is still a fantasy based on reality.

Either you accept this and heal your mind, or you’ll go down a path of suffering which will only increase with time, and I really don’t wish this to happen to you.

Don’t take things too literally, enjoy things for what they are, don’t waste energy on thoughts about what they are not. Try not to overthink things.

    Peace

  • anonymous

I agree with everything that was said. With this final statement I end my discussion with you KOKAYI5. Hopefully you have a good final reply to the statement I posted earlier.

  • beat all the mass effects anf 2 of the dragon ages

  • Jesus Christ

Do you think the dev team of Mass effect did a good job with diversity in that franchise? Are you happy with it?

  • Passionate doesnt mean im unstable . Im a 30 yr old man who works a 9 to 5 job like everyone else. Im just stating what i think about.

  • then why would i just except something like that?

  • Jesus Christ

Great! A sigh of relief. Thank you for sharing. There’s progress everyday.

  • TheNinjaMax

One of Mass Effect’s central themes is overcoming issues that happen with diversity by unifying in the light of more daunting threats, and also giving the player an opportunity to empathize with races he may not identify with, but that game was made by Western developers who are aware of multi-culture complexes that are prevalent with Western sensibilities. Final Fantasy’s lack of overt diversity represents a common problem with Japanese and Asian game development in general, it’s harder for them to look outside their native market — which can be attributed to Japan’s current decline in the industry.

Here’s the rub, whilst it’s in SE’s nature to cater to their Asian sensibilities, it’s not too out of the question to put pressure more inclusion, which might mean urging SE to find creative and fluid ways to do so in the future — since Final Fantasy is now, and has been, a globally marketed franchise.

  • itd be easy to move on if i hadnt been thru for years. I kept it to myself and didnt say anything because no one cared. Most people as long as theyre having they dont care if youre not.

  • yeh. In bioware games they include egeryone. Sad thing is i still like the anime look of jrpg. I like dragon age and mass effect a lot. But they dont have visual appeal.

  • Limbs4wings

    Cuba to be precise.
