World of Final Fantasy's monster capturing mechanic detailed

The official website for World of Final Fantasy has been updated today following various reveals in Japanese magazines. In addition to new screenshots, the website features a look at the game’s world, Mirages – the game’s form of monster collecting – and of course the classic Final Fantasy characters that’ll be joining the fray such as Quistis from Final Fantasy VIII.

World

World of Final Fantasy sets our main characters in a world known as Nine Woodshill. From there, they’ll travel to Grymoire and starting off in the lands of Corneria and Saronia their journey begins. Grymoire is a land of many seasons.

Legendary Final Fantasy Characters

Squall and Quistis Trepe from Final Fantasy VIII both have appearances in the game.

Squall wields a special weapon known as a Gunblade. Because he’s been training with Lightning and Cloud, he always looks beat up. Quistis is an officer of the SeeD organization. She is often busy and doesn’t get much in the way of real experience. There’s a rumor going around that she’s a fan of card games…

Chocolatta is a newcomer who shows up around the world – even in unexpected places – selling items.

Capturing Mirages

Monsters in World of Final Fantasy are known as Mirages. To capture one, players must meet specific requirements and special conditions like using certain items. Should you meet the requirements to capture a Mirage, they’ll start to glow.

Turning each Mirage into a gem means you’ve befriended them and can name them at will. Powerful Mirages are hidden in something known as the Dark Pastel, which gives a chance to obtain rare monsters.

Mirage Board

A feature known as the Mirage Board enables Mirages to obtain new abilities and higher stats. Upgrade “boxes” are lined up and cost Skill Points to unlock. Some of these can’t be unlocked, however, unless you’ve reached specific requirements. Skill Points can be had through leveling up Mirages.

You can also transform Mirages into more powerful beasts. Upon transforming, all the abilities your Mirage obtained before will transfer to its new form, however, exclusive abilities won’t carry over. Players also have the option to remove the transformation should they so choose.

Network Battles

Players can battle online in the Arena. Battle with others and your Mirages online.
