Official Final Fantasy XIV dev diary highlights story, lore, and localization

Creating the massive amounts of story, lore, and flavor text in Final Fantasy XIV isn’t easy, especially localizing it for several different languages. In the newest chapter of theĀ development diary video series, we see how it’s put together by main scenario writer Kazutoyo Maehiro, world lore creator Banri Oda, and translation director/English localization director Michael Christopher Koji Fox with his team. They highlight the collaborative process in creating all the elements of the XIV universe, and how not everything in the game originates in the Japanese script.

The latest chapter in the Final Fantasy XIV saga, The Gears of Change (Patch 3.2) went live on February 23rd 2016. You can check out our impressions (including the story) here.
