Final Fantasy XV runs on DirectX11, higher version considered for PC

After the Uncovered Final Fantasy XV event, Square Enix shared some details about the technical features of the game.

According to the official Final Fantasy XV Twitter channel, the version for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One uses DirectX11. After the release of the console version, Square Enix might consider a higher version (as DirectX12) for a PC release of Final Fantasy XV.

DirectX is a collection of application programming interfaces (aka APIs), which are used for multimedia and especially video game programming. Tessellation and improved multi-core processor support were the main features of DirectX11.

About a year ago, NVIDIA and Square Enix shared the tech demo “WITCH – Chapter 0 [cry]”, which used DirectX12 and was based on the concept of Agni’s philosophy from 2012.
