It’s hard to believe that the original Kingdom Hearts is now 14 years old, but here we are. Yesterday marked the anniversary of the game’s release on PlayStation 2 in Japan, so series director Tetsuya Nomura took to twitter to celebrate. This wasn’t without a tease of things to come…
We get a first glimpse of Daybreak Town as it appears in Kingdom Hearts 2.8: Final Chapter Prologue. That’s a collection that will include Kingdom Hearts Unchained X, a retelling of the events of browser-based and Japanese language-exclusive Kingdom Hearts χ. It also includes a HD remaster of Kingdom Heats 3D and Kingdom Hearts 0.2 Birth by Sleep –A Fragmentary Passage–, a playable scenario that follows keyblade master Aqua in the Realm of Darkness.
Have a look:
Daybreak Town originally appeared in Kingdom Hearts χ as a hub for budding keyblade wielders, not wholly dissimilar to Traverse Town or Twilight Town. In the time since the original release, the Kingdom Hearts community has made myriad translation guides for the curious. Chronologically, the game is the earliest in the series, and revolves around the mysteries of the ancient Keyblade War – a major event that will have a bearing on the future of the series: namely Kingdom Hearts III.
Here’s one of the original illustrations of Daybreak Town from Kingdom Hearts χ.
