Final Fantasy XIV 4.0 to be announced in October

This year, Final Fantasy XIV is set to mark its second Fan Festival experience following its debut in 2014 with the announcement of the game’s first expansion, Heavenward. Speaking with Game Watch, Yoshida dropped a few hints on what we can expect from Patch 3.4 as well as the next major chapter in the game – set for reveal in October.

With the launch of Patch 3.3, players saw the story of the Dragonsong War come to a close and although the bulk of that story took place in Ishgard, fans shouldn’t count it out for the remainder of the 3.x series. “I think they’ll be even more involved with the Warrior of Light and the Scions of the Seventh Dawn as they helped end the war,” Yoshida explained. Starting with Patch 3.5 Yoshida teases we’ll see some big changes start to come around – similar to what we saw with 2.5 and 2.55 with their dramatic shifts in story.

From here on out, we’ll learn more about Patch 3.4’s story at Tokyo Game Show 2016 and then announcements from each of the regional Fan Festivals across North America, Japan and Europe. Following the Tokyo show is when fans can expect the bulk of Patch 3.5 developments before a final announcement at the European Fan Fest.

As expected, fans will have to wait until October to hear the first bit of news on the next expansion, Final Fantasy XIV 4.0. “As this is a game supported by many players, we’d like to deliver our biggest news together during the Fan Festival gatherings,” said Yoshida.

Final Fantasy XIV Fan Festival is set to take place from October 14-15 in North America, December 24-25 in Japan and 2017 in Europe.
