Nomura talks Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8's delay, teases PS4 Pro support in new message

With a brand-new trailer and site refresh in tow, series director Tetsuya Nomura has quite a bit to say about Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue today. Instead of a traditional media interview, however, he’s taken to Twitter to share a brief message with the fans encompassing the game’s release date and hopes for the future.

“First, I must apologize,” said Nomura in a translation provided by Goldpanner. “As was stated today, due to the adjustment of contiguous titles, our estimated release date for Kingdom Hearts 2.8 of December 2016 has become (for Japan) the 12th January 2017. To everyone who was looking forward to a release before the end of the year, I’m so sorry. Please rest assured that development itself is moving along as planned without a single issue and we are nearly finished.”

Similar to events earlier this year, the game will be playable at TGS in two flavors – 0.2 and Dream Drop Distance. Nomura notes the number of DDD booths will be quite low so if you want to get your hands on KH at 60fps you might want to get to the booth early. Additionally, the 0.2 demo booths are the same ones we saw at E3 – which means the style is already different compared to the new trailer and will see an even further quality through release.

“With the development deadline approaching we are currently busy with last-minute work on 2.8, but for the first time in history our box art was actually ready before the release date announcement,” Nomura continued. “I think I’ll let the awesomeness of this miraculous planning speak for how well things are going. By the way, it will of course be compatible with the PS4 Pro, so be excited. Furthermore, the other game we are working on while doing this, KH3, is coming along steadily. There are new worlds in which you can run, jump, [spoilers], [spoilers]… I’m very excited about moving Sora around in the wider space with his higher range of maneuverability.”
