Dragon Quest XI officially coming to Nintendo Switch

In a recent blog post via Nintendo’s official Japanese website, the company has made their first proper mention of a Nintendo Switch version of Dragon Quest XI: In Search of Departed Time.

Towards the end of the blog post, it mentions, “It should be noted that this title is also planned for release on Nintendo Switch.” This is the first official confirmation of the game’s debut to Nintendo’s next home console as we’ve only heard last year that a Switch version was “under consideration”.

This adds even more shroud to the Switch version since it wasn’t even mentioned once during the game’s broadcast stage event at Jump Festa 2017 where Sqaure Enix revealed its 2017 release in Japan for PlayStation 4 and Nintendo 3DS. On top of this, the company even put out an official press release today where it didn’t detail the Switch at all.

We can only speculate at this point whether the Switch version will utilize either the PlayStation 4’s Unreal Engine 4 visuals, the 2D/3D visuals from the 3DS, or something else entirely. We’ll let you know as soon as more information rises.

Dragon Quest XI: In Search of Departed Time releases in 2017 in Japan for PlayStation 4 and Nintendo 3DS. If you’re need for more, we recently covered the game’s Jump Festa 2017 broadcast event where Square Enix revealed character information and gameplay footage.
