Final Fantasy VII Remake resurfaces with new key visual By Erren Van Duine on January 31, 2017 at 4:29 AM

Square Enix is celebrating the 20th anniversary of Final Fantasy VII with a new look at Final Fantasy VII Remake. A new key visual has been released, depicting CG renders of Cloud and Sephiroth over a backdrop of Midgar.

Recently, director Tetsuya Nomura noted the game was still a ways off. According to an interview with Famitsu, the team is steadily progressing on production with the goal of making a game that will meet fan expectations.

“Last year, I didn’t put out much information on [Final Fantasy VII Remake], but this year I want to show our progress at an event somewhere,” said Nomura.

It appears we’ll have to wait just a little while longer to see how far the game has come. Final Fantasy VII Remake is currently in development for PlayStation 4.

  • Noctis

    this looks damn goooood!

  • gabrieuTG

    Finally he built some muscle

  • stevenm281

Over more than a year since the last showing and they couldn’t make a trailer for its 20th anniversary?

  • Wazi the pa

My eyes are not worthy. MY eyes are not worthy. MY EYES are not worthy. MY EYES ARE not worthy. MY EYES ARE NOT worthy….

    MY EYES ARE NOT WORTHY.

  • Wazi the pa

These things take time unfortunately. But hey, the year is still young. Let’s not jump the gun just yet.

  • What does this mean for the game?

  • I prefer slim and acrobatic.

  • Invictus

    NOMURA: Please be excited.

  • gabrieuTG

It’s strange to see him so thin swinging that big sword.

  • gabrieuTG

10 years in the making, I’m calling it

  • gabrieuTG

They will fit all the parts into one single game and launch it in the PS5

  • Sothe Zephyr

    Is this still ‘episodic’?

  • stevenm281

It was never episodic, the media used that term and Square Enix were quick to reiterate, its a multi format series similar to the FF13 saga. Each installment will be a full fledged game, not an episode similar to TellTale.

  • Jesus Christ

Following Wazi’s comment, MY eyes are NOT worthy. You know why?

Cause this news is not worth my time or my eyes. I fell asleep. Too much FFVII milking, splitting up the games. Lord have mercy. Goodbye!

  • Krijn van Alten

What does what exactly mean for the game?

  • •december

Yes, in the sense of FFX and FFX-2;The FF13 series too.
    What stevenm281 said.

  • Pablo Sanchez

    Yous eyes are not worthy

  • Labros Jimjohn

hope it comes out before Kingdom Hearts 3

  • stevenm281

I would think so, they are breaking FF7R in three parts (possibly), and Nomura did say that a lot of KH3 worlds haven’t been worked on yet.

  • Phlegon

Hope it will make it for PS5’s launch day in 3-5 years from now. And KH3 too. As for FFXVI well we can wait until PS5 Pro or PS6.

  • Kchri

pretty dang awesome-looking.. anyone notice what looks like no less than maybe 3 needle marks in Cloud’s left arm upon expanding it to the hi-res view? could mean a cool attention to detail as those could be a trace of mako and/or Jenova cell injections (although, i don’t know how often it’s practical to inject in all those different spots). cool.

  • Like will this picture be the game cover or the art book cover?

  • Not to me, its like he has inner strength like chi and spiritual balance.

  • stevenm281

No details were provided, its a artwork, so by definition, not necessarily depicting anything concrete, its always subject to change.

Look at all the FF15 artworks, most of them were not even used to represent something in the game.

  • Rick Lopez

    no one cares

  • Yuntu

Don´t forget that Sony has money in this. WOuldn´t be surprised if Sony has a contract with em where they are only allowed to show new footage on their stage.

Which means either E3 or PSX this year, Nomura wants to show us new stuff after all for 7 and KH3.

  • Zach Hagler

Oh look, yet another game from Square Enix that only our great great grandchildren will probably be lucky enough to play…..Yawn. XD

  • Justice V

Probably nothing. Crisis core had a ton of key art, so did xv for that matter. Might be a loading screen, might just be used as promo art for a while, most likely will just end up in an art book or ultimania later.

  • Derek Clair

    Wow. Incredibly underwhelming

  • Krijn van Alten

Or none of those. Especially when it comes to game cover art, SE is never very hasty to reveal it to the world. So probably art book cover, if anything at all.

    lmao

  • Altissha Caelum Morningstar

Big muscles don’t always equal strength. Bruce Lee wasn’t swole and he could lift a man bigger in mass than himself.

  • Altissha Caelum Morningstar

    Also video game logic.

  • MajoraMan28

Those aren’t needle marks. They’re birthmarks. Moles, if you will

  • Kchri

aha! see i considered the same thing but, even though it may be a deliberate accentuation of lighting around them, those “moles” definitely appear to be indented. also, i notice no less than 6 of them in total now, 4 of them in a sort of formation and 3 of which are in a line. anyways, i guess we might see later (if anyone cares).

i postulate that this might be related to the statement made about making Cloud’s “hallucination” sequences more meaningful and relevant.

  • Sothe Zephyr

But theyre not releasing FF7 as a complete game like 13. So its still episodic in a sense. Unless theyre doing 7 – and then expanding on its story like advent children.

  • stevenm281

They’re splitting but expanding. So far about these expansions to the story, Nomura said this time the whole Midgar will be explorable (so already they’ll have to fill these new parts with content), and he mentioned wanted to give more backstory to Biggs, Wedge, and Jessie, among other things. He wants to tie in elements of the compilation to make the story more coherent.

I expect part 1 to be Midgar, so expect more of Don Corneo, more of the Turks maybe, more of young Aerith, etc.
