Final Fantasy XV broke even on day one

Despite its troubled development history over the years, Final Fantasy XV is already making money. Square Enix says the game broke even on day one when it launched on November 29.

Director Hajime Tabata himself delivered the news to DualShockers during a visit to their offices last week.

Right after launch, Square Enix revealed they’d shipped a total of five million physical units together with digital sold units worldwide. These numbers officially made Final Fantasy XV the fastest-selling title in the franchise. Just over a month later, the company added an addition one million units to this number, bringing the cumulative total up to six million.

To hold interest post launch, Square Enix plans on releasing a collection of free updates for the game – including additional story sequences, playable characters and difficulty adjustments through a recent roadmap published online. All of this is coming in addition to multiple pieces of paid character and online multiplayer DLC included in the game’s season pass.

As of now, Tabata and his team have plans to carry out a year’s worth of content for Final Fantasy XV.
