Retro spin-off title A King’s Tale: Final Fantasy XV is now widely available, Square Enix announced today. The hack and slash prequel to Final Fantasy XV proper can be downloaded free of charge on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Previously available as a retailer pre-order bonus, A King’s Tale sees itself centered around King Regis and his companions (Weskham, Cid and Clarus) defending the royal capital from raiding monsters. Square Enix has provided a short video rundown:

    Yeah, cool idea but the game itself was pretty sloppy. Can’t complain as it’s free, and rightly so as it was a preorder bonus from a select retailer and those who ordered the UCE didn’t even get this! But it isn’t particularly engaging or fun to play in any way so don’t feel you’re missing out if you skip it.

    wow they really made improvements in graphics, oh and it is for Ps4….not for a mobile device I see

    Despite what people say, I probably would’ve paid for this. Shoot, I got Type-0 HD just for the demo… but ended up enjoying Type-0 too. I’ll probably find something to like in this little gift!
