Square Enix teases Final Fantasy XV technology demos in new video By Erren Van Duine on March 2, 2017 at 6:43 PM

Square Enix has released a video highlighting some of the ambitions for the future of Final Fantasy XV. Previewed as part of a Game Developers Conference Panel, “Final Fantasy: A Challenge Once Again” allowed director Hajime Tabata to speak about the game from a developer’s standpoint.

This talk discussed what Final Fantasy XV set out to achieve, and the multi-faceted approach that was taken. It also covered what the development team has set their sights on moving forward.

The video runs down a history of this approach as well as a look at various technology tests featured on NVIDIA’S GTX 1080 Ti graphics card. Square Enix has yet to commit to any official PC version announcement.

If only they put that much effort into the plot instead of creating an amazing looking world and filling it up with 2004-level fetch quests.

  • Adrian

Things that look like awesome additions to FFXV in this demo:

    -new sand ruins area
    -off-road regalia
-Eight(?) Party members at a time
    -giant boss fight in lestallum
    -destructible environments

Things that I think will actually be added to the game:

    -off-road regalia

The previous trailers have taught me that most of the things they’re showing you that look awesome will either be changed, toned down, or removed completely (ex. eyes that can see the light of expiring souls).

The only hope of these new features actually being implemented is if they go all out on a high end PC version, which they kind of seem to be hinting at with the nvidia graphics demo. PLEASE TABATA MAKE A HIGH END PC VERSION WITH ALL THE BELLS AND WHISTLES IN YOUR PREVIOUS TRAILERS! If you do that then I’ll forgive the butchering of FFXV’s story.

  • Codes McGodes

Yeah I wouldn’t even think anything of this. Among those running party members was Ardyn, so idk what exactly they were trying to show off.

  • Codes McGodes

Square-Enix: Focusing on graphica over tangible content since 2006.

  • Dod

Probably the most truthful comment I’ve ever seen so far.

  • Dod

Great job guys, great graphics, now let’s take our pens out and write a good story for our next game shall we ?

  • Dod

That would just be the ultimate proof they didn’t release the full story they advertised.

  • Vallen

This is the same as with that tech preview video in 2014, it looks impressive, but won’t be implemented. They can’t patch so much stuff into the game, it’ll have to be a separate release if they aim for such a dramatic visual and technical overhaul.

I already accepted that the game looks nothing like the pretty previews, just fix the story before making this PC build.

  • Vallen

A coherent a story would also be nice. But let’s be serious, we wont get either.

  • Eyoi

Tabata has already said “We didn’t want to create a comprehensive and perfectly balanced story in this game” so there is that lmao.

  • stevenm281

Meh, all flash, but to what end?

The game doesnt need technological improvements, it needs more story cutscenes and more explorable environments, once these will be fixed, then I’ll sit and enjoy graphical and animations overhaul.

  • Doesntwork247

SE: “but but but we made a gazillion fabulous dishes and infinitely customizable car decals!”

  • Just move on. Finish 7R and KH3 and then do 16 down the line. Learn from your mistakes.

  • xMysticx

lol see and tabata fans will lash at you for saying that

  • xMysticx

SE has been on the field as developers for their high tech and graphics and kojima was right
nothing came form them as decent … that video right there is a proof of that . they cant do deep stories that catch us any more

  • Jesus Christ

This video demo did absolutely nothing for me and should NOT for ANYONE ELSE. Why?

Graphics excellence is really a boring topic now. There are a lot of companies that have caught on and produce beautiful games graphically. There’s is no more showing off. Square Enis too way too long to release this game and when the graphic tease matter about 10 years ago, it no longer matter when it was released several months ago. I remember when it was still VERSUS and they released those photos of the hallway or garage or whatever to showcase lighting and it was mind blowing. Now? WHO CARES. People caught on. You took way too long. that type of tehcnological show off is boring. The game’s graphics looks good, but that’s not saying much after seeing so many excellent games with amazing graphics released that is not Square Enix or Japanese for that matter.

Not sorry about. Square Enix your time management sucks and I bet you only non official reviewers are willings to say it as it is.

  • •december

    Super fucking like!!!
I was literally talking about this yesterday! Now that we know Omen trailer was CANON, hence an Alternate reality, as Square Enix has stated (not a dream)… I was thinking, hey we must be getting that Cerberus fight then right…!?
    Square Enix @ GDC 2017: ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

  • •december

Comrades Expansion pack! Almost 100% sure it was.
Out of the 11 players running 8 of them were recognizable yes…
And yes I think Ardyn would be a playable character too.
Noctis, Prompto, Ignis, Gladio, Aranea, Ravus, Gentiana and Ardyn
Hoping Cor Leonis is in this, then I might be interested!

  • •december

All of this is coming to the game though? What are you talking about.
Whether its implemented to your liking or not is irrelevant.
Off road Regalia is confirmed, Comrades/Multiplayer Expansion confirmed… what’s new here is the new areas (all 3 episode DLC have expansion of Lucis, Niflheim & Altissia/Accordo respectively) and Cerberus fight with destructable surroundings

  • •december

    FFXV is far from over
Why are people still butthurt that Season Pass was announced before FFXV came out and they couldn’t be bothered to get it?
You are the one that needs to move on, there’s plenty of FF7 Remake comment sections that need your attention!

  • Ryuke

The team needs to just get the DLC finished and free updates they were working on completed, release the PC version, then move the hell on. People have played the game, have their impressions and thoughts, and have moved onto greener pastures. Some won’t bother to load the game back up just for most of this content, the only thing that will get people to hop back into Eos will be the Episode DLCs, so they need to make those the best they can be. The critics aren’t going to magically change their mind about the game, and neither are the players. Those who love it, love it. Those who hate it, hate it. I am *personally* really looking forward to (but very cautiously apprehensive of) playing Episode Gladio, Prompto and Ignis but other than that I’m done.

After all of that, learn from the giant missteps of XV and just put the game to bed already. This isn’t an MMO that needs years and years of content and support. The more they attempt to prolong the life of the game the more the haters will keep hating on it, and on SE, and eventually folks will just get fed up of hearing about it. The whole Versus “elephant in the room” will remain as a blemish, the criticisms of the awful story-telling and cut content within XV will remain as a stain, and overall the Final Fantasy brand will just suffer from it.

I say this from a place of love for the franchise, but I really do not want to be hearing about XV come 2018. Give XV it’s 18 months of shelf life and content then take it out back and shoot it.

  • •december

I’ve seen this popping up again about the dev team so I’ll gladly repost it here:
The dev team wanted atleast 6 months more developing time
They can’t just “finish” important updates.
It’s tough but we need more patience. Episode Gladiolus is right around the corner.

  • Ryuke

By “finish” I don’t mean stop everything, declare it finished and release it. Obviously take the time that is needed to develop it. Which is why I said FFXV should get its 18 months post-development cycle.

  • •december

They have all the time now the games out.
I just don’t get why you started off with those sentences it belittles the rest what you said lol.
It’s hard but we gotta be patient :'[

  • Ryuke

I don’t see how saying the team need to move on belittles anything? I think it’s a valid opinion, when taking the interests of the franchise into consideration, that the longer they draw out FFXV the more damage they are doing to Final Fantasy as a whole. I started with that statement, then explained the reasoning behind why I feel that way.

Yes, it’s great they are continuing to support the game post release for the people who are interested, but it shouldn’t overstay its welcome and shouldn’t be at the detriment of the franchise as a whole.

  • xMysticx

    Ryuke is right .

and to tell you the truth no one gonna come back for the comrade dlc too
the game sucked major balls and its time to move on ,i cant believe tabata taking that hype for xv to another level to promote gimmicks still .

time to move on and listen to the saying ” if aint broke sont fix it ” BD2 added more insult to injury and the more they fix the more it gets stained . xv had 85% score on amazon and now down to 65-68% and critics wont change thir scores its a finished matter

maybe SE will learn something after this . well, not really they’ve got 50 years to learn ahead that if they learned something .

  • I think that a lot of people were disappointed with FINAL FANTASY XV, they recognise that the story was flopped over all, they feel like no amount of downloadable content will ameliorate a game that was shoddy to begin with and is beyond repair

like a bad relationship, we are fed-up of being reminded about it and would rather move on to something new

  • please excuse me for mentioning the obvious, I think that a separate part of ‘Business Division 2’ is responsible for developing and improving the engine, they must have been so proud of the work that they did they just had to show it at the Game Developer Conference (GDC) event of 2017, I am sure that the rest of the team is hard at work on developing more content for the game

  • (Also, am I the only one annoyed seeing that Luna scene over and over
again with her sitting – when it isn’t in the actual game?)

lol, FINAL FANTASY XV, was nothing but a massive teach demo for the Luminous Studio Engine

  • stevenm281

But SE focuses so much on the future technology and how amazing they can create things that their work cannot even run properly on this generation hardware, they have to downgrade it.

FF15 uses the maximum capabilities of the PS4 and PS4 Pro, and its far from perfect.

They should reevaluate what needs improvements for the present, not the future.

Whats the point of creating stuff you cannot use?

  • stevenm281

why? he really did say this.

  • Senam Lawson

It would be nice to challenge Cerberus and all, but SE doesn’t seem very well organized, anymore. They had time to produce Kingsglaive, develop Nier:Automata, KH birth by sleep 0.2, animate KH BackCover and do whatever else, but it’s still taking forever to release the DLC’s? Why not focus most/all the personnel they have on 2-3 projects at a time, instead of 5-10 things?
All this technology is nice, but would anyone have cared if Luna’s hair wasn’t as realistic? (No)
So, focus on what matters, already!!

  • xMysticx

    yes he did

  • Senam Lawson

Hmmm. The fact that a game that people have already beat is “far from over” is a problem, in itself. We have to wait till maybe September to get the last DLC and God knows when they’ll release the multiplayer feature. On top of that, they’re showing off their lighting, physics, collision, pathfinding and AI elements (as if people hasn’t already played the game). This isn’t something NEW, to look forward to. People have the right to be upset. The story seriously lacked, too; (I’m not including Kingsglaive, since I haven’t watched that, yet) but they really need to do things differently. This is ridiculous.

  • Invictus

Same here. Getting news about FFXV just makes me sick and pissed at the moment. Like I said, it’s either we get tidbits of content for this year, or wait for a defintive edition with all these dlcs and start anew in a year or two. I chose the latter.

  • Noctis Pendragon

Why should they move on faster than the other devs?
    The DLCs aren’t even out.

  • Noctis Pendragon

This video was released at a tech event and isn’t even showcasing an actual game, just experiences.

So no,its goal isn’t to matter to the players.

  • Noctis Pendragon

No one stopped them from moving on.

  • Noctis Pendragon

I don’t get it, are they supposed to make the tech worse just so that you can feel safer with your story?
Aside from that, i can’t see how the tech guys are supposed to make the story better instead of doing their jobs.

+don’t blame them for showing tech stuffs in a tech conf.

  • Ryuke

I didn’t say they should? 18 months since release takes us to around May 2018, which is about standard for post-launch support.

  • Ryuke

Just to note, Square Enix is made up of many dev teams and studios, so the guys who developed NeiR: Automata (alongside Platinum Games, too) is a completely different team to those who developed FFXV, and again a completely different team to those working on KH.

I get your point with the overall organisation of SE, and there’s definitely a need to focus on their projects for quality over quantity recently, but it’s not quite as simple as moving everyone onto one project or another. The FFXV DLC having staggered releases throughout the year helps retain interest from the players for a longer period of time, and gives the team time to work on it once the game has launched rather than it all being ready at launch and included in the game (which arguably the DLC for FFXV should have been!).

  • stevenm281

Rather than have each of their teams work on a different game, and then have to outsource to other developers to get assitance with their projects, they could easily drop outsourcing and assign more teams to a same game.

Its really not difficult, they are just greedy, their games would sell a lot more if they would focus on quality rather than quantity.

  • Vallen

You really think EVERYTHING here will come to the current gen console version via patches? LMFAO

  • Noctis Pendragon

    Kk.

  • Ulises

At first I was laughing at the video, but then I started thinking it’s just sad how all that technology and potential was wasted on a game like XV. I hope they learned something from their mistakes and do something good with XVI, if that game ever happens. Videogames franchises as old as Final Fantasy doesn’t have to stuck like this, just look at what Nintendo did with the new Zelda, it’s getting 10/10 almost everywhere, Square could (and should) learn a thing or two from them.

  • Yuntu

Yeah. Why not focus 3500 people on 2-3 projects. That makes sense.

  • Yuntu

They focus on quality. The problem is SE is bad at time management for bigger productions. All their small games are really good imo and have usually high quality.

  • Yuntu

    >showcase video about tech of a videogame engine on a conference about videogame tech and development background
    >why u no focus your time better SE

Do people not realize that companies play around with their tech all the time? Like thats how that shit progresses. Stop whining just because the game they are using to do technical experiments is one that didn´t life up to your expectations.

  • stevenm281

they focus on visual quality for their AAA games, not product quality.

  • Yuntu

No they really don´t. Every company does stuff like this, SE just simply likes to talk about it.

  • Yuntu

Disagreed. I Am Setsuna, DQ Builders, DQ Heroes, Nier Automata and the list goes on – none of them are build or focused on visual quality.

(and that aside, FF always looked great – why drop that now? wouldn´t change anything as technical peeps aren´t the one writing the story or doing other stuff you want them to do)

  • Yuntu

all this stuff will probably end up in the game

but obviously the graphical stuff will be PC exclusive

  • Jesus Christ

FFXV is the only non online game that gets frequent DLC treatment like this. All previous ft games was game and judged as they were. This is quite telling because it tells us this game is incredibly flawed and has to be constantly be catered to and constantly babied by fans from criticisms of the game and it’s creators AS IF it doesn’t deserve any. FFXIII trilogy was flawed and it had dlc but not of this magnitude and this frequent.

FFXV can’t stand on its own. It needs help for months and years to come. Embarassimg: unfair. Not the best game they once led us to believe. Graphics is not this game saving grace. In game graphics does not look outstanding compared to other games. This demo show clips we have already seen. No wow factor

    rant over bless my heart

  • Invictus

    Jesus has spoken!

  • Invictus

I think Kingsglaive was even better than the game itself. Just saying.

  • Jesus Christ

In Jesus Name i pray to myself!

  • Yuntu

Such a rant has nothing to do on an article about trying out graphical features …. but okay lol

  • stevenm281

alright then, I’ll rephrase what I wanted to say: SE focus only on visual quality when it comes to titles of the Final Fantasy mainline series. Once they achieve their amazing graphical level, then they only have time left for either gameplay or story, never both.

(I do not consider XI and XIV as real mainline titles, they should totally be separate as they are MMOs and not single-player games.)

  • stevenm281

If they would give us specifics about the upcoming patches and DLC, like the length of each character episodes, the amount of cutscenes and length of them that will be patched in, etc., then I wouldnt mind that they show off constantly their tech.

  • Jesus Christ

Dang you right. I guess I went over board but I did talk about th demo so I agree to an extend

  • I have moved on. It seems like KH3 will be soonish, like winter. And 7R will have gameplay at E3 or TGS and likely be out in 2018.

  • stevenm281

Personally, I think they should remove FF15 from the spotlight, focus on showing FF7R and/or hint at FF16, while working on all the new stuff for FF15.

Once everything will be ready, release one huge freaking patch/update, rather than updating steadily with very minor things. Especially if to enjoy what they’ll add to the story, you need to restart your playthrough with each update, which is tad annoying

  • Senam Lawson

Don’t get me wrong: I’m sure they have different departments for each franchise like Star Ocean, Dragon Quest, Final Fantasy, Kingdom hearts, Deus Ex, etc, etc.
Common sense should have suggested (to them) to bring some/LOTS of those people into this one project. I understand you might not want “too many cooks in one kitchen”, but certain tasks can effectively be delegated, when it comes to game production. Their modelers, texture artists & animators seem to be top notch on EVERY SE game. Bringing them over would have sped up monster creation and their animations and environments, at LEAST.
As far as spreading DLC’s throughout the year? No: that doesn’t extend the game’s life. I’m sorry. That’s a gimmicky approach. Quality games don’t need that. Case in point: How many DLC’s did FF7 get, by the way?
Oh, right: zer0. It was a PlayStation 1 game, with characters that had cubic body parts and no voice acting. It’s more or less 20 years old, and still relevant enough that they’re remaking it. Seriously.
That stuff with FFXV is just irritating and people just move on and come back to it later, because there’s something new, not because they were still interested. If FF XVI comes out one day, I’ll possibly wait for a year or two to get it. I’ve played XV for over 200hrs, sub quest after sub quest, after beating the game twice, and I’m back to some of my PS3 games and a $30 PS4 game. Sorry about the rant, but, let’s be 100% honest, here.

  • Senam Lawson

I haven’t watched it yet, but despite that I AGREE with you. (Well, I’ve read some quick reviews and summaries about it, and it seemed good. Kingsglaive could have been FFXV, itself)

  • Carlos Dominguez

we need PC version + game engine = Skyrim rip

  • CallMeGod

Yeah they play around with their tech so much they got shit done that’s why.

  • CallMeGod

Not really, they haven’t learn shit that’s why we got FF15 a unfinish game, we got two sequels to 13 no one ask for and then 14 which was so bad it got a complete overhaul.

  • CallMeGod

They should just name this tech demo “A Fail Once Again.”

  • xMysticx

thats my point they go with graphic whoring eye candy which for them is impossible to leave it alone for a bit and go to gameplay aspect

  • Jesus Christ

I don’t want VERSUS back. I leave that in the past as is.

What I’m trying to convey is here is that Square messed up big time and there’s so many people babying them. And they trying to show off something that is not worth showing off. Besides, the scenes in the demo we already seen. It’s boring.

  • Eyoi

Please stop with these retarded change.org petitions. I want Versus 13 as much as the next person but it makes you look stupid. A 2500 person petition is literally going to do nothing. The game sold millions of copies. This petition isn’t even going to see the light of day and nor should it.

  • Casper

FFXV sold millions of copies great, so you know what make Versus XIII/ Versus XV(Trilogy) and it will sell another millions of copies, each game.

Also 2500 people that want the same thing, whose to say there aren’t more hell this seems more consistent then what most other people want from FFXV, and besides it allows them to capitalize on this alternative reality thing they showed off for FFXV, so we give them a direction to where they should take it.

I also should happen, so much potential in those trailers shouldn’t go to waste.

  • •december

I’m just so glad FFXV have all the time in the world to make this game epic. I loved the first of the Timed quests and indeed it’s true Level 1-99 is easy in comparison to leveling up from Level 100-120. Just because I loved this game, doesn’t make it perfect; I’m optimistic for the future.

  • Yuntu

I know what you are trying to see, but I think you are wrong.

The issue is the amount of time they give their devs. XIII has a fucked up development due to the engine not doing what they wanted, XV didn´t. XV just needed more time. They didn´t gave XV more time. The state XV is in has nothing to do with the graphics. SE is simply good at making shit look great when they have money. Doesn´t mean they focus on it, they just have really good artist and technical peeps.

  • Yuntu

The video only showed insane vegatation, hair/fur effects and gas/fire effects. Destructible enviroments are very much possible on our consoles (unless they wanna have that on everything?).

And I assume they will clarify about the DLC content once its actually out and they know exactly whats gonna be in the patch and how much.

  • Yuntu

People are just a bit too sensitive about the game.

You didn´t like something? Complain about it. But why not do it below articles where it would actually be relevant? As soon as a XV article pops up here someone starts typing a rant about everything and anything instead of reading the article first (not aimed at you mind you).

  • 2me

Even if this petition won’t work, all you need to do is log in and click promote button, five minutes that’s it. Beside, small numbers from here won’t cause SQ drop their plan for Versus XIII since we all know people who enjoyed 15 would love to play Versus XIII as well.

  • Jesus Christ

Hold the phone, wait a minute.

Mister or Miss Yuntu. If you follow my comments (I don’t expect anyone to do that, but if you have been), you’ll know that I have made such comments such as the one you have read above and below this article in more “relevant articles”.

I conceded and admit that I ranted overboard here that arguably not pertinent to this article. OK. I give you that. But, let’s not forget I did mention incorporate my opinion on the tech demo as presented in this demo and I tried to find my own way to incorporate that into my overall feeling about the hot mess this game is.

Thank you for not aiming at me. But, even with that, I can take the aim because I get what you’re saying. But, again, it’s not like my comment above and below is totally irrelevant to the article.

    Thanks.

  • Casper

We need to get Versus back.

  • Casper

If Versus comes back we get more Chocobros, FFXV isn’t good enough to warrant moving on to FFXVI just yet.

  • gabrieuTG

    no

  • Eyoi

I personally think that level 100-120 is pointless. Levels literally mean nothing in this game. You can be max level and still inevitably get your ass handed to you.

  • gabrieuTG

I hope XVI turns out to be Sony exclusive so they could explore this engine full potential on it. Xbox sales aren’t that expressive.

  • Eyoi

Small numbers there means literally nothing because they aren’t going to see it.

  • Yuntu

No it won´t. There was never a sequel to a (even a beloved entry) entry in the franchise that sold just as much as the first one.

And if you want Versus XIII back it gotta cost alot of money. Because Nomura wanted to go places (places unachievable this project got time for from SE, which is most likely why Nomura stepped down).

  • Eyoi

Final Fantasy is going to sell millions of copies regardless of which game it is. Square is a massive company and they aren’t going to consider looking at such a petition. I can guarentee you 80% of people who bought XV have no idea of the development cycle and don’t even know what Versus is. There is no reason that they should develop Versus 13. I’m sure they just want to get XV out and work on it after it’s release for a year and be done with it. They need to move on. The development cycle for this game was a mess.

Sure, they can remake the game down the line but now is not the time. Nomura is working on three parts of VII:R, KH3 and I’m sure will play a part in the creation of XVI.. what makes you think he has time to make Versus? That’s literally the whole reason the game got abandoned in the first place.

  • Yuntu

I disagree, because you take that video out of context in which it was shown.

The video wasn´t meant to “wow” people, it was simply a showcase of what they can do/want to dowith the engine (in this case within XV, because why not use something you already have created instead of something new – saves money, and some people think they waste too many resources on proper research … so there´s that).

This video was something they showed at GDC while they where talking about the development (which is why we see old stuff) and the future (which is why we see some new stuff later in the vid) of what they want to do/try out with the engine (again in this with XV, because why not).

  • Yuntu

I really hope they get their shit together for the next mainline entry. 16 will be a showcase if SEs new CEO/management learned anything from last gen (which, let´s be frank about it, is where XV still is from) and the mistakes they made.

    I hope they did.

  • Jesus Christ

So they put all of that tech demo together just because? If that’s how you want to perceive it, that’s OK. If I was Square Enix, I would think to myself to make a tech demo that would showcase and amaze people. I’m saying their showcase is BORING. Agree to disagree.

And as I have said conceded, I’m not denying I took the video out of context and incorporate into my other opinion on the game. I don’t deny that.

  • Jesus Christ

They need to move on from this hot mess.

  • Yuntu

    Yeah let´s agree to disagree.

Though I would like to add that some of the stuff they showed in here was really, really impressive technical stuff … but that wasn´t was our conversation was about. So let´s leave it at that.

  • Jesus Christ

“Impressive technical stuff” sounds like something that would wow peopel.

    LOL aight amma stop.

    Bless

  • Yuntu

Well … the devil is in the details.

  • Shinobuden

They changed Versus XIII into XV and released it. It wasn’t what people wanted and expected, but it’s done. The story, what little there was, has been told. There’s literally no incentive for them to develop Versus XIII and it’d simply be a waste of time and resources. They will work on the game for the next year and then they will put it behind them and continue looking towards the future like they’re always doing; and it’s honestly what everyone else should be doing too. I can understand that people want Versus XIII, but this obsession that people have with it isn’t healthy and it’s honestly disconcerting. I’ve never seen people be so fanatical about a work of fiction before.

Even if there are other people out there who want it it doesn’t matter because a change.org petition won’t actually change (heh) anything, and people need to stop trying to use petitions as a way to make their voices heard. It’s the worst way to try to get their attention. This petition will never reach SE’s eyes, and even if it does they won’t care. Also, if you honestly believe that they will make a game the way fans want it to be then you’re more delusional than I originally thought.

I’ll provide an example. While it is much less well known than the Final Fantasy franchise and the sales for the three games together doesn’t even come close to that of a mainline Final Fantasy game, but One Piece: Pirate Warriors came out September 21 2012. Before it came out a guy made a change.org petition to get Bandai Namco to add English dub to the game when it was revealed it would be Jap dub only with English subtitles. He received about 400 signatures out of (to call it overly ambitious would be an understatement) 50,000 signatures. He got more signatures than you currently have and got them in a much shorter time span. I saw him literally everywhere spamming about his petition and annoying people. I told him it was the worst way to try to get their attention. He even made claims that he was in contact with someone from Bandai Namco and were talking to them about adding an English dub. Nothing came of it.
He did the same for Pirate Warriors 2 and 3…nothing came of it. And this was about something as small as an English dub, nothing like what you’re trying to do here which is essentially re-developing a whole game and making a trilogy out of it. To say that is asinine would be an understatement.

Developers don’t care about petitions. At all. Period. Sorry for the wall of text.

KH3 will most likely be done in 2018, so he can work on both the FF7 Remake which is being developed by CyberConnect2, and FF Versus XV which will probably be a mixed between BD2 staff, and BD3.

Also a lot of the people who bought XV knew what Versus was, the entire hype built around XV was because of Versus

  • Casper

“No it won´t. There was never a sequel to a (even a beloved entry) entry in the franchise that sold just as much as the first one”
The sequels didn’t sell well because of quality not because they were sequels, that ignoring the fact that Versus XV wouldn’t be a sequel anyway it would be an AU. that actually contains things that people wanted in XV, and wanted for Versus XIII, you know the outright nostalgia that Square sold to people? None of the Final Fantasy sequels had this, X-2 got rid of most of the original cast and you could only play as the three girls, the XIII sequels were out right bad. If Square was afraid of sequels the 7 Remake wouldn’t be multi-part to begin with, and no it’s not telltale they are using the XIII Trilogy as a blueprint.

“And if you want Versus XIII back it gotta cost alot of money. Because Nomura wanted to go places (places unachievable this project got time for from SE, which is most likely why Nomura stepped down).”
Actually Square took Nomura off the project because he wanted to make it into a trilogy, they didn’t have faith in XV not to mention the fact they didn’t have faith in the brand period FFXV if it sold under 5 million it was their last Final Fantasy hell Tabata said that he was told it was a mistake to make Final Fantasy an action game, so of course Nomura would be taken off the project, not to mention if the leaker is true Part 1 would have come out in 2018. Nomura wasn’t taken off because of expense, he was taken off because Square wanted him to work on KH3 and the 7 Remake.

  • Yuntu

I won´t even bother reading that.

  • Casper

Here I’ll give an example of a petition working The Division coming to PC
Petitions can work, some do, some don’t.

  • Jesus Christ

i just recheck other video game demo from other games companies. Yeah, this demo show me what other games have already been showing for years. Not impressed! Not sorry about it!

  • Jesus Christ

Hey don’t crush his dreams! If Donald Trump could win it when all the poll numbers were against him, so can this petition! A 1% chance is still a chance!

    LOOOOOL XD

  • Shinobuden

One petition worked on a game that was already in development and simply needed to be ported to PC. That’s not a very good example as the situation here is radically different. Also, that petition wasn’t unreasonable because it was within the realm of possibility; this one isn’t.

  • Casper

Read the rest of my post, as I said some work some don’t, hell the developers themselves know that Versus is popular, why do you think people are asking for the damn concept costumes.

  • Eyoi

Except for the fact that a mainline Final Fantasy title will sell millions regardless. If it didn’t sell then they would no longer be making Final Fantasy games. They’ve even said this themselves.

  • Casper

Funny because they are aware people want Versus costumes and that petition isn’t even half the size of the Versus reboot petition.

  • Casper

They said it if sold under 5 million, FFXV could have done just that, but it didn’t and Square played on the Versus nostalgia during the uncovered event, a lot. If Final Fantasy XV had nothing to do with Versus, and was ATB like the old fans wanted, then it would have been the last Final Fantasy game, hell even if it was action it would have probably not sold as much.

  • Casper

It will be on Steam, and PlayStation 5 probably.

  • Shinobuden

I read it, and you’re still not seeing reality.

You seem to be under the impression that they have an infinite amount of funds and manpower or something. XV has been out for 3 months now and while they probably earned money back on it starting on a Versus XIII reboot anytime soon is utterly and completely unrealistic. A petition won’t change that. They’re working on the VII Remake and KH3. Nomura’s helming both of these projects, yet you (as per the petition) want them to divert even more manpower by making them take on yet another project. One Nomura would helm. While helming two other projects. You have to see the absurdity in that.

Of course they know it’s popular, but it doesn’t change the fact that a petition won’t have any effect. Least of all because people want a couple of damn concept costumes. While there are rare cases of a petition actually working they are nowhere near as unreasonable or unrealistic as this one. The Division petition was simply a PC port and had almost 140,000 supporters. This petition doesn’t even have 200 and is requesting that Versus XIII be remade from the ground up with everything from the trailers in them and more.
Not to mention SE is a company that does things their own way. Always have been. That’s also something a petition won’t change.

I’m not saying they won’t ever do it (although I personally think it’s unlikely). I’d like to see it myself. But if they do it’ll be of their own volition and not because of a 2500 signature petition. The sooner people realize this the easier it will be on them.

  • Eyoi

Probably because they spent majority of the XV development process advertising and developing Versus CGI and showing trailers those trailers to the public? LOL.

  • Casper

    And create another?

  • Casper

Never said they had Infinite amount of funds. Also 7 Remake and Versus XV can both be worked on, if it can be done with KH3, especially since XV has assets made for it.

“This petition doesn’t even have 200 and is requesting that Versus XIII be remade from the ground up with everything from the trailers in it and more. ”
It has 2500, and it’s requesting what was originally going to happen, before Square decided not to do that, and delivered an unfinished mess.
“I’d like to see it myself. But if they do it’ll be waaay down the line and of their own volition; not because of a 2500 signature petition. ”
No one is saying that the petition will be 100 percent fool proof it will get Versus back, hell there may even be desire to do it internally(they aren’t going to say anything about it though, at least not yet), but hey the petition could be used as an argument for why they should make it. It shows demand, if the petition does nothing then it will happen in 10 years(even though I think 5-6 but whatever), it the petition didn’t exist they wouldn’t see any demand whatsoever, therefore may never even think of making it. If we can get them thinking about it, it doesn’t matter when only that it does.

  • Jesus Christ

another as in XVI. if they fail XVI, then I will trash it too.

It’s not a crime to complain. And I say that not to mean I ONLY complain like some trolls might led people to believe.

  • Shinobuden

Fair enough. The part about assets is true, although Nomura multitasking projects still has me concerned.

Oh. Welp. Apparently I can’t math and I’m blind to boot. For some reason my brain interpreted it as only having 196 signatures. Sorry. It’s 3:30 am and I’m tired.

I still think it’s a very low number overall though and they are very unlikely to take notice or take it seriously if they do notice it. I guess only time will tell.

Again, sorry for apparently being brain dead, and thanks for being civil. Not many Versus XIII supporters are as civil as you in my experience.

  • xMysticx

you wont because you wont believe in such a thing as you say ……xv .sold because of vs13 thats all they lied and want to sell as much dlc as they want

i didnt even bother replaying the half assed game
you’ll see justice to vs13 will prevail

hence why xv is hated by loyal fans
not new retards that they calls themselves ”fans”

  • •december

    There’s bigger badder bosses coming.
We’ve already seen new bosses for Episode Gladiolus…
Each DLC has new enemies, weapons and new areas planned!
If you find it worthless stop playing, I understand

  • 2me

When there wasn’t Nomura’s name on the ending credit of Kingsglaive, I thought it could be the case (what Yuntu said). Nojima’s story that was completed back in 2010 is totally gone, faces of main characters kept changing constantly, hearing changed Shimomura’s music that is either country side music or Under the Sea (Lestallum) or music no one cares like customizing music. Nomura perhaps stepped down because of his disagreement with scaled down project. Funny thing is XV isn’t single entry either :'(

By playing 13 sequels (even original 14 failed I didn’t play that one so) it is obvious why they couldn’t success but suits neither know what gamers want nor how to evaluate games, so XV became sacrifice to damage control their previous failures. Know nothing therefore they can’t have faith in success of XV so SQ announced XV DLCs months after they saw the result of how pre-order went.

“”. Not saying as a fact, just my pure opinion.

  • Eyoi

I’m not sure why you responded like that. I didn’t say anything about any DLC, I was just responding to the level increase. I haven’t played since the second/third day XV came out.

  • •december

You’re right and neither was I being defensive. You called it pointless <-

  • •december

Sandy area is from Kingsglaive war zone area?
Maybe possibly going to Galahd for an Episode DLC ??

  • Ryuke

I don’t. Versus XIII changed into XV. The story, concepts, characters etc all transitioned. There is no Versus for them to magically create any more, the sooner people realise that the better. What we have with XV is Versus XIII, things get changed, cut, edited, reimagined all the time when creating something like this.

As my comment you’re replying to suggests, the last thing I want is this whole Versus XIII and XV debacle to continue, which is why I’m looking forward to a clean slate for XVI with a fresh story, new characters, a new world, new lore etc.

  • xMysticx_the_stupid

“Royal fans” lololol you’re meme right now. Versus is 15 now, so you will never see lt again. Why don’t you go watch some versus videos with your waifu Noctis?

  • xMysticx

hahahaha , you know your jokes aint funny but i like the trolling name troll

  • DairyQueen_DQ

stop wasting time on final fantasy 15 and start making a better storyline with a new final fantasy.
