For those that are seeking to learn more about the mythos and events that brought NieR: Automata to fruition, Square Enix Europe is reprinting the original NieR and they’re available for purchase on their European online store right now.
Released back in 2010 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, NieR takes place in a decaying Earth after the events of the fifth ending in the first Drakengard game. The action RPG tells a heart-wrenching story of a middle-aged man whose sole mission is to locate a cure for a malady known as the “Black Scrawl”, to which his daughter Yonah is gravely suffering from.
In Japan, two versions of NieR were made available depending on the platform of choice — NieR: Replicant for PlayStation 3 and NieR: Gestalt for Xbox 360. Replicant features a young, slender NieR on a mission to save his sister while Gestalt features an older version of NieR attempting to save his daughter.
In a previous Q&A, producer Yosuke Saito said if NieR: Automata “sells like hot-cakes”, Square Enix will consider remastering or even remaking the original NieR.
NieR: Automata is available for PlayStation 4 and PC via Steam. Click here to read our full review on the game.
