Dragon Quest XI shifted over two million units during its first two days on sale in Japan, Famitsu reveals. These numbers represent the combined sales across both PlayStation 4 and Nintendo 3DS.

Per Famitsu, the 3DS version sold 1,130,468 units while the PS4 version sold a total of 950,338 bringing the grand total to 2,080,806. These numbers include sales for the standalone version of the game as well as both hardware bundles and the special Double Pack collector’s edition. Digital sales are not included in these numbers.

On the hardware front, the release of DQXI catapulted the 3DS up to 126,790 units and the PS4 to 93,954 units total for the week.

Dragon Quest XI is currently slated to launch in North America and Europe in 2018.

  • Good to know. I feel like it’ll be one of the best RPGs I play next year. I seldom get that many I like hands down. It’s made me worried and try to spread out to other genre of games (action/hunter, action/horror, 3PS). But at heart I’ll all-RPGs. So please let this be great and hopefully Square can bounce back one day too.

    Wake me up in 2018!

I feel like the game line-up of the 3DS and PS4 are becoming stronger every month. I remember my dissappointment with available JRPGs when I bought my PS3 back in 2010. But these days, it’s nice to be a JRPG-fan. (I’ve just disvovered Fire Emblem a month ago, and it’s super awesome, I had no idea! :O) While working on my bachelor’s thesis, I read about the success of the 3DS a few days ago, and it’s a wise move from SE to bring DQXI to that system too. The sales say it all.
The Switch is still lackluster when it comes to games, unfortunately, just like the WiiU back then. Only 1~2 interesting games as of now. I wished SE would port some of their games to the Switch. I mean, Kingdom Hearts, World of Final Fantasy, or DQ Builders fit perfectly into Nintendo’s image.

This is a real RPG guys, unlike that FFXV shit, this is the real deal.

  • Good times are coming, let’s hope they keep this momentum. They need to make games that are fun and well loved consistently regardless of which system or they will never surpass KH2 and FF7.

FF12 Zodiac Age is out and it’s pretty good, good reminder of why we love(d) Final Fantasy.

  • SNK

Really? Final Fantasy XII? The one Final Fantasy that has similar flaws to Final Fantasy XV? No.

  • NoctLightCloud

I agree. KH2 is my favourite game, but I am still open for new JRPGs to take over that spot. Unfortunately, Persona 5 is not my cup of tea. NieR Automata also. I found DQ Builders and WoFF extremely well done though. I think I’ve never spent so many nights with a game like I did with DQ Builders. Super addictive.

Damn just destroyed FFXV in sells, but it’s Dragon Quest in Japan, I’m not surprised.

  • I couldn’t get into Heroes 2 after the pure fight fest the first one was. So now that 11 is coming and it’s towns and shops and mystery and exploration and still battles galore, I’m in.

  • King Zeus

FFXII is the definitive Final Fantasy.
    Deal with it.

  • mc.onye

Yeah the scaling for a DQ mainline is crazy; Over a month, XV sold 884,000 on PS4 and Persona 5 around 350,000…. DQXI sold almost a million at release lol

  • Miqote

No, FFXIV does a good enough job telling me why I liked the franchise. I don’t feel the need to reply XII.

  • NoctLightCloud

I actually won Heroes 2 in a contest from Sqex alongside some great DQ plush toys, so you won’t hear me complain about that game at all xDD
