Final Fantasy IX arrives on PlayStation 4 today, includes trophy support, custom theme designed by Toshiyuki Itahana By Tony Garsow on September 19, 2017 at 5:03 AM

Final Fantasy IX arrives on PlayStation 4 today after a surprise (well, kind of) announcement at Sony’s Tokyo Game Show 2017 press conference.

This version of the game will include the enhancements featured on smartphone and Steam ports such as speed boosts and the ability to toggle random encounters on or off. Trophy support will also be included, and a custom theme designed by character designer Toshiyuki Itahana will be included.

You can view the game’s listing on the North American PlayStation Store here. Normally priced at $20.99, the game is currently discounted to $16.79.

    Not remastered version, no?

  • I dont understand. How do you just skip 8 like that? It has to also be announced later at the show, even if it’s to be released later.

    FFIX <3

The Steam/Mobile version IS the remastered version, which this is a port of that. The listing includes all the extras and mentions HD. But it’s not a remake, like VII is getting.

It’s probably because FFIX has recently been remastered for iOS, so it was easy to transfer the visuals. They did the same for FFVII and FFX. Both had recently been remastered (for iOS and PS3 respectively), so re-releasing again for PS4 didn’t require much effort. Same goes for Kingdom Hearts 1.5 and 2.5. FFVIII (I believe) has yet to be remastered for any device, so I’d say that one is likely to be next. Hopefully they won’t take so long for that one though. I’d like to have the whole series on PS4 and I’m surprised at how long it’s taken them to add 1-9.

God why are these Remasters of the PSOne games so ridiculously expensive ? FF VII Remaster for 15,99 , now FF IX for 20,99 (16,79 only for PS Plus members) ? The game is over 15 years old !!

  • stevenm281

I agree, they shouldn’t charge more than 9.99$.

  • Codes McGodes

Probably because they’ve been remastered. They were $9.99 on PS3 because they were direct ports. Not that I disagree, I think FFXII’s remaster was outrageously priced. Costs more than FFX and it only has half the content.

I really hope VIII comes next. Not between my fav FF but I don’t like pc gaming and that steam port is shit (especially the sound), and I like it enough to play it again on ps4 as long as they add the chocobo world. Don’t know if I’ll be getting this, tough, since I played both VII and IX on the psp not so long ago and man, talk about expensive prices.

  • lol but it’s weird. FF7 is just the steam version isn’t it? FF8 is also on steam. why not just put that one on there?

  • Codes McGodes

Hm. You may be right actually. I was under the impression the Steam version was a direct port but that looks remastered too.

  • Randy Marsh

Because from Kitase’s giant mouth, it sounds like FF8 has more plans currently than doing just an HD remaster in mind. Anyways imo, would be better if they take the time to fix the Steam version of FFVIII before they make any plans of a PS4 release. The version is garbage in the HD upgrades, like it is honestly astonishing how bad they messed up the textures in the Steam version.

  • Miqote

Sir, anyone with a job wouldn’t find $15.99 “ridiculously expensive”.

  • •december

    Nah, I understand. thanks

Is it so difficult to make an FF like this in today’s times? Missed when there were no DLCs, when a story was not told incompletely.

  • I havent played much of it but I do know the music is fucked in the steam version. Like I think it’s all midi or something.

  • Randy Marsh

Yeah it uses the MIDI score from the original PC release of the game. I had to mod the heck out of the Steam version for the music and the god awful textures.

  • The reasons they would never allow the audience to know.

  • Ryuke

That theme is pretty nifty. Shame that’s not available separately as I doubt I’ll re-buy this again. Same with the VII PS4 port, I just want the theme and not the game again! Ho-hum.

i bought the psone ff9 so i miss nothing
