Final Fantasy XV: Episode Ignis is arriving on December 13 this year By Chelsi Laire on October 30, 2017 at 12:17 PM

Unveiled through PlayStation’s live conference from Paris Games WeekFinal Fantasy XV: Episode Ignis is set to be released on December 13 this year. Yasunori Mitsuda has also been confirmed to be composing for this episode, which if you didn’t know, did work for Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross, and Xenogears.

With this episode, fans will finally be able to experience the untold story of Ignis’s battle against Leviathan during the events of the main game through his own perspective this time around. The trailer shows some of the expected gameplay and brand new scenes to be featured in the episode, including the challenges Ignis faces and the battles he endures to protect Noctis.

The episode’s main setting will be the streets of Altissia, featuring fast-paced action gameplay with Ignis’s spelldaggers. Imbued with elemental properties, he has a unique ability called “Total Clarity” which allows him to target and attack multiple enemies at once. Ravus will also join your forces as a guest appearance (just like how Cor was in Episode Gladiolus and Aranea in Episode Prompto).

Additionally, the episode will feature multiple endings, allowing players to see different outcomes of events.

You can also watch the interview with Yasunori Mitsuda, where he talks about his work for the episode and his thoughts about his comeback in contributing work for Square Enix as it has been around 18 years since his last work.

    Whoaaa…o_o

  • If Square feels like doing this will keep them in the black, so be it. But XV wasn’t fun for me except for about 3 key parts. I want them to take a nice long look at how they handle story in the future. It’s an RPG, so the story should be a given. Not something spread out over DLCs to fill in plotholes.

  • stevenm281

    Multiple Endings?

Whats the point? They probably have no impact on the main plot.

    Anyway, this looks amazing nonetheless.

  • One Eco

Oh my god, everyone theorising that Ardyn directly made Ignis blind. HOWEVER, Ignis himself using the Ring of the Lucii to save Noctis is something really big.
In fact, I find really surprising, considering what happened to Nyx, that the only price he had to pay was losing his vision.

  • Miqote

I agree, but I’m not agianst extra DLC stories in games, it’s just that since XV did have plot holes in the start, THESE DLCs feel bad because of that.

  • Miqote

This actually looks like the best of the DLC, heck Ignis is one of the better characters in the game, still shit game though.

  • alef321

people will play it cause we already payed the season .
not happy with the retcom about Ignis putting the ring , sounds like something he should’ve mentioned YOU KNOW…

  • Well ravus l lost his arm because of it but shit, this man had to give up his eyes.

  • Adam Hedquist

Gameplay looks like it could be alot of fun. Shame that XV’s story is what it is and therefore I won’t play this either.

  • Exactly. I have no doubt that if they wanted they could have had all the DLC been in the main story from the start. Who would go back and play the parts now to fill in plot holes if they already grew to hate the game. The damage is done.

  • •december

    Ignis voice: mmmMMMMBAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH!!!!!

  • •december

    It looks quite good yes

  • •december

I like how they put the DLC into the main story via the Chapter Select option, its a really nice addition – makes sense to just play the entire chapter when Ep. Ignis drops

  • •december

I just wanna see the Kings of Yore/Lucii
…and why do they look so much like incarnations of Bahamut

  • •december

gladio kept quiet about his story, ok he’s proud
prompto kept quiet about his story, ok shame…
…but ignis kept quiet about all this why?

  • If only the characters were likable enough for any of that to be worth it, IMO.

  • •december

FFXV’s problem was the main story ending left everyone unfulfilled.
It’s still a great story and a beautiful looking game, under layers and layers of disappointment…and i’m starting to really look beneath the disappointment now

  • Mehmed

Who thinks that FF XV will get some kind of an GOTY or Definitive Edition?

  • •december

Who knows. It wil get a PC edition though, that might be it.

  • I guess they want Iggy dying in non-canon endings. Losing vision might not be enough.

  • XV problem to me was no one was enjoyable. I only like Noctis. And their world was small and mostly left unexplored. The 13th chapter was a joke. No fun at all. I just want RPGs to focus on story again. When games like Xenogears were new, graphics and hype didn’t matter. Telling a story that made you think mattered. I never sat down after beating 15 and wonder further about the lore. I didn’t have a frig-logic moment. It was just over. Like it never happened. Some good music and a cool lead. That’s it.

  • Artemis_Polara

Cool, it’s coming out on my birthday 😛
(Though to be fair it might get a small delay) 😀

  • Mugen

I feel like these should be free DLC updates. Tabata already said they made a good amount of profit off FFXV and want to use that profit for the fans to give them what should have gotten. I quote from the Eurogamer interview: “We made quite a lot of money off the game on day one – we made good profits off that – and we thought the best way to use that profit would be to thank the fans who’d played the game, to give back to them and use that to improve their experience”

Wtf man, these paid DLC are no way to thank the fans. They just wanna make more money. Fuck you Squareenix and tabata. Greedy pigs. Yes I’m still salty about the whole disaster of a game and I can’t believe I bought the ultimate collectors edition. Basically in the interview he said the team was tired of working on the game so they just released it cuz they couldn’t take it anymore. What kind of bullshit excuse is that.

  • Mugen

Conan on his clueless gamer segment couldn’t have been more accurate about this game. “No sense of satisfaction” and “epic blueballs waste of time.”

  • 4FFAN

This looks very similar to the Leviathan Battle in the E3 2013 trailer (jumping from a building to another, trying to reach a Summon in the middle of the water, Altissia in complete chaos, etc.) Happy they’re taking elements from that. Can’t wait!

  • Noctis Leonhart Strife

FF XV has good times, I liked the beginning of the first chapters. Some were poorly executed, even in the battle Leviathan lacked much. It was not well directed, it was counted quickly. He missed some cutcenes and CGs in certain dialogues. It lacked more abilities, more spells, control the other characters in the battles, the difficulty of the game bothered me, it is quite easy, it does not have depth nor strategy. But of all the problems the most serious was the way the story was told. Bad choices in the direction.
Chapter 13 did not like it, it was not cool that labyrinth. Insomnia left to be desired, I wanted the Insomnia of Versus XIII, shown in the first trailers. The battle against Ardyn was very easy, with no challenge, no strategy. This should be fixed in a patch.
I hope Square Enix has learned from the FFXV errors and never again commits them in future FF.

  • Fallenblood

complete edition i think this game not GOTY award

  • Soldier Blue

It will be, for the patient pc crowd.

  • Mugen

I know he never promised free DLC. It would be the right thing to do since it is filling the missing plot points. Yeah..free incremental updates that are mostly made up of static images. And a second season pass that’ll cost money I bet.

  • Yuntu

Oh no how dare a development team admit that they are human and don´t have any stamina anymore to delay it any further. Jesus.

Like you do realize there are humans behind games and not roboters? And that you can´t just have endless crunch and that it can seriously damage people if you draw it out too long? There IS a physical limit to game development, especially in AAA development.

And yes paid DLC is there to make more money, congrats you broke the code.

  • Mugen

Ah, a white knight. Yeah, if it ain’t ready then scrap it instead of releasing a half ass shit. Or release it with a price cut. Similar to uncharted the lost legacy, where although it’s still a full game but shorter, cheaper than uncharted 4. The people who bought the game used their hard earned money to support their efforts. At least show the supporters what their money means. Not like “hahaha! We suckered you into giving us money for something we didn’t finish, and now we’re gonna make you pay more!”

  • Mehmed

I really can’t wait for the Season Pass 2 News.
What they will change and of SE is planning to combine all of it later.

  • CRIMSON-XIII

i wish all the DLC were in the main game and not in the main menu title screen of the game. i want to see the episode ignis portion right when it is happening. Not after i stop the game after chapter 9, and turn off application, and load up episode ignis.

    first world problems.

  • stevenm281

well then I want a non-canon ending where Ignis and Ravus save Lunafreya.

  • •december

    Hype!
Episode Ignis is not the End!
…and theres still Comrades dropping in a few days too

  • •december

Chapter Select has made this possible, just saying
I picked the chapters where Gladiolus and Prompto disappear or do their own thing and it gives you an option to follow their DLC then and there or continue as Noctis

  • stevenm281

what if I create a new game?

  • CRIMSON-XIII

wait, can you essentially explain this for dummies please? i didnt know you could do this? explain a bit more plz? if you dont mind. I want to start a new game and see it right when i pass it, especially gladio sequence and ignis/ravus sequence

  • CRIMSON-XIII

i want more on tenebrae and the earlier chapters as well.

  • Lucas Nóbrega Maia

how guilty do you think Noctis’s would be if he discovered his ring basically blinded his friend?

  • Codes McGodes

I noticed the same thing. I was so disappointed in the Altissia invasion in the final product. The Leviathan battle specifically. I know that won’t be fixed, but I’m really glad the E3 2013 version of Altissia is making it’s way into the game.

  • Codes McGodes

Same reason Loqi shows up in the Assassin’s Creed festival after we kill him. They’re not good storytellers.

Also I’m missing something. I’ve heard a few people mention multiple endings but where are they getting that from?

  • stevenm281

Assassin’s Creed Festival is non-canon, it doesn’t really happen, so I can live with this, even tho I was confused at first.

As for the multiple endings, its advertised on their Final Fantasy XV facebook page, they commented their post about the trailer.

  • Codes McGodes

Oh fair enough then. Still, kind of odd for Loqi to show up post-mortem. Was that worth doing by the way? I was going to do it but it didn’t seem like it had much story to it.

Also gotcha. Multiple endings seems like an odd choice, but I guess it’s like the “choices” you make throughout the game. Show romantic interest in Iris or not, neither affects the story.

  • Codes McGodes

I felt the opposite. I quite liked the cast, they were all just completely written out of the story. I liked Iedolas in Kingsglaive, but he’s only in one cutscene in FFXV. Verstael certainly had potential, but he’s only in one cutscene too. Cor was likeable but is only in the game for five seconds. Ravus…well I didn’t like Ravus but his character was complicated, but he’s in all of four cutscenes. Gentiana and Luna were both pretty boring, but neither character was in more than a handful of cutscenes. And I thought Regis was a wonderful character in the trailers, and pretty good in Kingsglaive. But he’s not in the game at all save for the opening. FFXV’s biggest problem for me has always been lack of content. I spent more time with Dino and the big guy from Lost than I did with any actual supporting cast.

  • stevenm281

The AC festival was alright I guess, but the script is so cheesy and some lines by the characters almost sounds like: Buy Assassin’s Creed, its the best!

Okay, maybe not that much, but still…

  • Codes McGodes

Considering Gladio gives a whole commercial monologue about Cup Noodles, I’m not at all shocked by this.

  • Vallen

Show me a single clueless gamer where Conan doesn’t rip it apart. That’s the segment, to shit on games, the footage in that segment are collections of chunks from his playthrough where he complains.

  • chizwoz

How does this work? I just assumed they’d be smart enough to make it seamlessly blend into the story.

  • Vallen

Okay, so Gladio gave us more Cor, Prompto gave us more Aranea/Shooting/Empire Story, and now Iggy will give us Ravus/similar sequences to E3 2013 Altissia trailer. On top of that, multiplayer will give us more of the Dark World and maybe some Demon Slayer Iris.

That’s pretty good. Now if a Season 2 DLC gave us more on past Lucii Kings, Ardyn’s past, and the Goddess Eos – we might have a pretty good package altogether.

  • Mugen

Like every other game he played on the segment? Take a look at the one for the Witcher 3. Totally engaged in it. He was so over XV. Anyway, SQEX is laughing all the way to the bank because of XV cuz they played us like fools.

  • Jesiah Grant

“He who holds the Ring communes with the Lucii and commands great power.”
    —Lunafreya Nox Fleuret

I swear we better see the Lucii when Ignis puts on the ring -_-
Was super disappointed they didn’t speak to Noctis when he put it on in the game…would of been a perfect time to speak to King Regis not to mention seeing the kings of old surround Noct

  • Jesiah Grant

Eventually, and that is when I’ll replay the game. I already paltinumed the main games and will return to it once they are completely done with it and have the game and all dlc on disc, also integrating the dlc into the main game would be ideal too

  • Cor should have been with them the whole time. All he did was chill and hang with Iris. Iris was a generic little sister type but not annoying. The dragoon lady was overrated. Ravus dies off screen and fights you as a zombie. Gentiana was cool (pun intended) but of course by the time she joins the game is over.
You couldn’t summon on command. You couldn’t explore once you went overseas. Regis and the guy from the movie should’ve been in the game. A road trip when you end up stalked and terrorized by a madman who wants to punish you for something you didn’t do isn’t cool and thought provoking.

Noctis and the music is the best thing about that game. And I stand by that. I wasted 90$ on that game and then to top it off few good games came out since then. RPGs are a dying breed. At least the ones I like.

  • Cecilia

Google is paying 97$ per hour, with weekly payouts. You can also avail this.
On tuesday I got a brand new Land Rover Range Rover from having earned $11752 this last four weeks..with-out any doubt it’s the most-comfortable job I have ever done .. It sounds unbelievable but you wont forgive yourself if you don’t check it

  • •december

theres an on screen prompto/cue that asks if you want to continue as the relevant Chocobro, or continue as Noctis – thats how they put the DLC in the game. Like when Gladio goes off, or if you play Chapter 13 Zegnautus/Demon ship and go off with Ignis and Gladio or Just play as Noctis…

  • Vallen

I watched them all, and don’t see him liking any game. He literally threw all of witcher 3 out and focused on the sex. He might was well have put on a porno and we’d get the same reaction. He glorified the sex over anything else in witcher.

  • Vallen

We need to ask Square to add another sequence like they did with the War of the Gods into ch.13 for when Noct puts on the ring.

  • CRIMSON-XIII

so i start a new game, and when the DLC happens like gladio ep early around chap 4 or 5, the game tells me ?

  • stevenm281

Historically the DLCs goes like this:

Gladio’s DLC is in Chapter 7.

Prompto’s DLC is in Chapter 12.

Ignis’ DLC is in Chapter 9.

Comrades’ DLC is between Chapter 13 and 14.

  • CRIMSON-XIII

for sure. i didnt think this was possible in this game. i thought it wsa only always through the main menu. im even more excited to replay the whole thing now

  • stevenm281

I’m waiting for Episode Ignis to drop and then I might just do that

  • •december

thats what happens in Chapter Select
haven’t started a new game yet, but its the exact same I guess?

  • stevenm281

    I hope so

  • Justice V

Yeah with the last update (or whichever added the Shiva backstory and the chapter select thing) they implemented where the dlc actually happens in game now. Haven’t gone back to the prompto or Gladio sections but def can confirm it gives you the option to play as either gladio/iggy or noctis in ch 13 now. I didn’t finish the chapter though so not sure if at some point it switches back so you can experience both fully without having to restart the chapter though. Once Ep Iggy comes out I plan to go back and check out a bunch of older chapters again though.

  • Justice V

Pretty much what Vallen said. He likes some of the shooter games, and some fighting games, but rpg’s he hates on. Witcher only got so much praise because he had sex on a unicorn and loved cutting people into bits (since it’s a mature game it makes sense whereas FF is T rating). Only other one I think he ever enjoyed as much as Witcher was GTA also because he got to have sex in it. I love Clueless Gamer (the older ones, the new ones with ‘celebs’ kinda ruin everything about it), but he never really gives the games accurate ratings or critiques…that’s the point of it.

  • Justice V

I would agree with you, maybe, if they didn’t already give a bunch of free dlc to us along with free updates. The character Episodes could be argued as parts that should have been in the main game, but considering each of them so far has had entirely new UI’s, mechanics, gameplay, locations, enemies, voice over work in multiple languages, etc etc there is no reason they should be free. The things that have been free already are pretty impressive if you think about the effort and time the employees had to put in.

Just because something made a profit doesn’t mean all future work on said product should be given out for free. Would be awesome if it was yeah, but no one should really expect it to be free.

  • Jesiah Grant

Agreed, as long as it doesn’t look like a lazy slideshow that has incoherent artwork/concept art and is fully animated then I’m down

  • stevenm281

Yeah, I was expecting a nice CGI about the downfall of Shiva by the Empire’s fleet.

  • Jesiah Grant

I think most of us were brother :/ could o fbeen epic

  • •december

In The Light of Season Pass 2
    …I’ll be satisfied if:

    1. Luna’s dark history comes to light

    2. I can fly the Regalia around Tenebrae

    3. explore insomnia

…I wouldn’t mind if they fixed the difficulty in the game too, like the idea of Summons is that they come to your aid when your life is in peril, so because its so damn easy we end up never seeing them. Maybe introduce another Summon, Square?

  • Codes McGodes

I’d like Niflheim to become explorable as well. I really hope that’s what the “unannounced expansion” is. And strongly agree on Luna’s dark history. I’d like to see her history, Ardyn’s history, and Regis’ history, specifically all of the moments he shared with Noctis as a child.

Also to your point about the summons, I agree that it’s a flawed system, but I had summons showing up every few fights. They really lost their luster because Shiva and Ramuh showed up so damn often, especially in fights where I really did NOT need them. I definitely support additional summons though. Would be nice if they added Bahamut and Ifrit, and maybe something original. And also if they changed the mechanics for Titan and Leviathan. They each showed up exactly one time for me the entire game and I never saw their asses again.

  • Codes McGodes

What about the Chapter 13 Verse 2? I know that’s prompted as well, but I heard if you take the prompt you then lose out on everything Noct was doing. Is that true? Or is there a way to experience both?

  • stevenm281

its the other way around, if you decide to play as Noctis, you wont see what happened to Gladio and Ignis, but if you start as them, you will experience Noctis’ path after.

Or so thats what I heard.

My bet is: everytime the game offer you a choice to play someone else’s part, either you do or you ditch it, but since the game’s progression is based on Noctis, you’ll never miss a Noctis moment, however progressing with Noctis will prevent the user from experiencing the other characters moments.

  • Codes McGodes

That makes sense. Hopefully you’re right because I could definitely deal with that. Although I never really got why they made the Gladio portion playable. Seems it would have been easier to just pepper in the cutscenes of Iedolas and Ravus, but I digress.

That would be consistent with their last story update though. Shiva gives you the option to learn about the war of the astrals and it’s like you said, Do or Ditch. Noctis continues forth either way.

  • •december

Niflheim explorable too, goes without saying!
Though, there were quite big areas in Episode Prompto of Niflheim… it was nice!

Ugh making Bahamut and Ifrit obtainable summons needed to be there from the start! I have lost count of how many times i’ve said from the start but anyways I wanna see where this FFXV rollercoaster ends. Onwards to 2018.

  • Casper

This is great Square but this is what I really want
