Final Fantasy XV’s entire main party will be playable soon in the main game, Episode Ardyn announced By Chelsi Laire on November 29, 2017 at 3:15 PM

During the Active Time Report broadcast for Final Fantasy XV, Director Hajime Tabata and Marketing Manager Akio Otsuka provided more information on the future of the game.

Final Fantasy XV Comrades will be receiving a new patch on December 12. Patch 1.1.0 will be dedicated to fixing bugs in this multiplayer expansion, such as the inability to level up in some cases, problems with multiple quests, instances in which enemies don’t appear, issues that make progression impossible and more. New content that will be introduced through the patch will include Time Limited Quests which involves quickly matching players together to defeat waves of enemies within a certain time limit.

After this segment, Episode Ignis Director Takeshi Terada provided an update on the upcoming DLC which included a look at the opening scene of the DLC. Episode Ignis was mentioned to have twice as many story cutscenes as Episode Prompto and boasts multiple endings. The multiple endings will be additive to the ending of the main game, basically not necessarily affecting the actual ending. An Extra Battle feature has also been added, which features a special battle against Noctis.

Development Manager Daisuke Oe’s announced the “First Anniversary Update” for the main game. This update will allow players to swap between Gladiolus, Prompto, and Ignis seamlessly. Each character will play like in its DLC, and this update will come bundled in with December patch.

Other details regarding DLC content will be released near the end of the year once they are finalized. The next “Episode” the team is working on will be Episode Ardyn and will delve deeper into the background of the world. The team is also aware of the high volume of requests for similar content featuring Luna. As for now, three episodes are planned for 2018.

Additionally, Hajime Tabata announced that Final Fantasy XV Pocket Edition for iOS and Android has been delayed from the Fall to the Winter.

It’s pretty cool when you remember that switching between characters with different mechanics was one of the old ideas for Versus XIII that got scrapped. In retrospect, I’m glad it was scrapped for the main game, but somehow it’s really fulfilling to see it get a DLC option.

  • Nick Greeley

In before “hurrdurr should’ve been there since launch”

  • stevenm281

Loving all of this! Character Switching, especially!!!!

However, I take with a grain of salt the length of their content.

FF15 main story was supposed to be 40-50 hours, it is actually 25-30. This Episode Ignis is supposed to be 2-3 hours, bigger than Prompto’s, but back then they said Prompto’s was 3-4 hours…

I’m happy they decided to give Ardyn an Episode rather than make a new movie, manga or entire game, as it was initially intended during Gamescom.

  • Gabriel Hage

    Luna playable please!

  • stevenm281

It’d be cool to play as her from when she leaves Insomnia, and see how she gets to Altissia, as there are no boats available.

  • •december

    I watched the stream!
Word is Episode Ardyn will be the first of 3!!!
    Hype hype!

  • •december

i always wondered if the boat was available at Galdin Quay at the beginning would everything be different

  • •december

Thinking back, if they had this option before hand it would take away from the DLC. Episode Ignis still isn’t out so imagine playing Ignis as a character switch in the game and then seeing again in the DLC, it would be bland!

  • CRIMSON-XIII

great news. it is unfortunate that many ppl hate on this game and do not want to play it. this is only good news for those that enjoy the game!

great work Square enix, on both FFXV, FFXIV, and soon FFVIIremake and XVI as well!

  • •december

there’s still probably a new game or movie in the works lol…
i would’ve prefered a feature length movie on ardyn
but an Episode might do it – and it sounds like they’ve got a lot of ground to cover
    with his backstory

  • •december

i will get the FF7 remake regardless
but i dont have an opinion on it yet lol
i agree with the rest of this here

  • stevenm281

I’d love his episode to occur in Solheim so that we can discover new environments but, I guess an old version of Insomnia could do the trick as well.

    Excited!

  • eternaleon

    Pretty cool!

  • It’s a shame that this needed DLC to fully explain it chopped up story.

  • Ray Muñoz

    Should’ve been there since launch.

  • •december

    Yes it was!
But now its gona become a reality lol
You can mope or you can just ‘please be excited’ lolll

  • Diego Pinheiro

    Good news!

  • Randy Marsh

Huh, pretty neat. I mean it would’ve been nice if the party leader swapping was in the game at launch, but hey, beggars can’t be choosers and they eventually did it.

  • Diego Pinheiro

Good new. I hope they show Ardyn, Gilgamesh, the black chocobo and the first king of lucis ina huge flashback to Eos past. It would be amazing.

  • Vallen

This is great news! Adryn’s story has the potential to really expand the lore of this world significantly, and then there’s also another few Episodes to follow – which is fantastic!!

The character swap is neat as well! I was fine with Noct, but it’ll be fun to try out the other few (even though their movesets are extremely limited). Still a very nice feature that’ll greatly impact the game as a whole.

  • Adam Hedquist

Yeah, party swap is the best thing they’ve done since launch imo, and
yes there’s alot that should’ve been in the game at launch but if wishes
were fishes, right? But they did good!

Another thing I’d like them to add is changing core party members. Like instead of Glad, Ignis and prompto I can run around with Cor, Iris and Aranea and even play as them. But I guess that could be a mod thing on pc.

The most tragic thing for me is the story. It is so poorly told so it’s so hard for me to go back to the game. And they can’t fix those issues I have with it. The story is what it is.

But then there’s the gameplay, which I enjoy but everytime I give the combat another try I get put off by it and remember why I like it but at the same time hate it. The biggest issue I have with the combat is the auto functions, it makes the game soo easy, there’s no challenge whatsoever and it doesn’t help that there’s other things that makes the game even easier. Like giving me full mp after a warp.

Just hold the dodge button and tap attack and it will automatically parry for you, I’ve yet to lose a battle with bad gear and on low lvl, and even if I do get hit it’s not game over.

Then looked up what the difference was beteween normal and easy mode and you can’t die on easy and then normal became even more pathetic for me, ugh! I hate that the game is like this! I want to love it! I can’t! I want to at least like it, but they’ve made it so hard for me.

There’s a ton of other stuff I’d like them to add to the combat but w/e.

If they made a hard mode. A true challenging hard mode: Remove auto functions, give back much less mp when warping and remove the ”darn, all of my hp is gone but I still have time to pick a potion” thingy. That would make it so much better.

  • Miqote

Should have been there at launch

  • Dod

Too bad you have to pay for all of this.

  • Dod

    Hodor playable please !

  • Mugen

    Should’ve been there since launch.

  • stevenm281

not for the character swap, its part of the free updates.

  • Mugen

Funny. I was on twitch during their live stream and commented that the character swapping should have been there at launch, and I got blocked by SQEX for like 560 seconds or some bullshit. No wonder all the people on the twitch stream were fanboys kissing up to SQEX. Now they’re censoring people? crazy,

  • Codes McGodes

    THANK. GOD.

    OH GOD BLESS.

  • Codes McGodes

I think the best way they could counterbalance the difficulty would be to add in additional Ascension trees that unlock some more classic FF abilities like Second Chance or Auto-Life. You know, stuff you have to either unlock or prepare for pre- or mid-battle in case of emergencies. As is, I was “KO’d” a lot, but like you said, never died because recovering from a KO with a potion or Phoenix Down was all too easy. Pairing that with easily-summonable summons and even if I was ever in a difficult fight, the summons just finished them off for me. Summons happen way too often imo, which both made it way too easy, and was kind of boring since it was always either Ramuh or Shiva.

  • Codes McGodes

Strongly agree. Maybe it was because they wanted to debut their fighting styles via Episodes: Gladio, Ignis and Prompto. Cuz at one point they were definitely playable, and it’s never made sense why they removed that feature.

  • Codes McGodes

I just hope they never do it again. I can let it go as long as it’s worth the wait, and as long as the next game comes with a finished story.

  • Codes McGodes

I reeeeeeally hope they put her tragic backstory back into the game. She desperately needs character development of any kind, but I reeeeeally hope they put that back in.

  • Codes McGodes

Lmao we were just talking about this the other day.

  • Codes McGodes

I wonder if the ability to switch will be available from the beginning, or if it will be unlocked later. Cuz Episode Prompto takes place pretty late in the game, you basically wouldn’t have access to switching until late Chapter 13.

  • Codes McGodes

Did they say it would take place in Insomnia? I don’t see why Solheim and Insomnia couldn’t both be in the game. It could begin in Solheim and then move on to Insomnia while he plots his revenge. I’d also (either in this episode or a future one) like to see more of the empire in general. Ardyn’s influence on Iedolas, Iedolas’ obsession with the crystal, Iedolas’ descent into madness, Shiva’s death, Ravus’ development, Glauca and Verstael literally at all, etc.

Also I think the Astral War and the destruction of Solheim would make a great movie. Tbh THAT is what should been the movie, NOT Kingsglaive.

  • Dod

I couldn’t care less about this tbh, no offense.

  • Luke Watts

The ONLY good thing about this is that they will have done some public testing for this combat method (live switching) prior to FF7R – so hopefully when that come out it won’t be a complete mess like FFXV. In fact.. this is probably more what this is about than anything… it’s your first FF7 demo kids!

  • I can’t be excited. I only liked Noctis so I sold the game. No point keeping a game for one character.

  • Adam Hedquist

Ok, so instead of the KO status we would have those things to unlock, you mean?
That wouldn’t be enough imo. The auto functions gotta go too.

Yeah, you brought up another good point about the summons and I agree. The last thing you said leads to yet another nagging issue for me: The lack of variety in pretty much everything.

They did alot with party swap and for that I’m thankful but I think the game still needs more variety in summons, weapon classes, quests, mobs, abilities, magic(more different elementals, buff/debuff magic) etc but all of this is of course lower on my wish list where a hard mode is at the top.

  • Angeal4DissidiaNT

Most of the people on the ffxv reddit are like that too.

  • Codes McGodes

I’m not saying it would necessarily be like, unlock the ability to not die in battle. But in previous games we’ve had abilities such as Second Chance or Auto-Life at our disposal, but they’re usually abilities that you get much later on. And in the case of Auto-Life, it’s a spell you cast in battle as a preventative measure, and it can only be used once. There’s an element of earning these abilities. That’s all I meant. Agreed though on a Hard Mode. I think the game could use that, and for sure more summons/magic/abilities.

  • Jesiah Grant

Man this game will be so good once every morsel of dlc is out. Deffs will replay it when its all finished. Really hoping they string together all the dlc into the main story. Kinda breaks immersion having to select it outside the game

  • Jesiah Grant

    Why? shes not a fighter.

  • NoctLightCloud

It’s a step towards a “real” FF since every mainline FF has given you full control over the party. This is why people (including me) are excited about it.

  • NoctLightCloud

Oh boy, now THIS is some good news. Party swap (finally!), episode Ardyn announced, and episode Ignis having twice as many cutscenes as Ep Prompto (I am one of those people who love cutscenes).
“As for now, three episodes are planned for 2018.” Ardyn and Luna are a given, but I wonder what the third episode will be about? Episode Tenebrae? I’d love to see more about Gentiana and Aranea, the women in XV are so gorgeous. What a pity that none of them is playable.

  • Games Das

    Yes yes.Time to reinstall FFXV.

  • Lucas Nóbrega Maia

    it could be Episode Cor

  • Average Afro

This will be nice to replay over Christmas!

  • stevenm281

From what I heard, when they added Chapter Select at the title screen, they also added prompts in the story to allow players to play the DLC at the right time.

I have yet to test it out.

  • stevenm281

so what? Ever played a White Mage or a Priest in an RPG?

Not everyone need to be a fighter.

  • stevenm281

they didn’t give specifics really about the episode, but it will occur 2000 years before the game, back when he was alive, and a hero most likely.

  • stevenm281

They already confirmed that you can play the entire game as one of the bros if you’d like, as long as they are in the party

  • This is why I haven’t bought this game yet, because the story is clearly unfinished.

  • Jesiah Grant

I like it being integrated back into the main game, so those story prompts are pleasing to hear.

  • stevenm281

I wish they would integrate it properly, but a prompt is better than nothing.

  • Jesiah Grant

this isn’t your average rpg and shes neither a priest or a white mage. Did you even watch Kingsglaive, she blatantly refuses to use magic

  • Miqote

Yea that’s the type of STUPID logic defenders of FFXV give. She has NO combat ability healer or not in the plot AT ALL. Not to mention she’s a weak ass character anyway.

  • Commenters be saying “Luna can’t fight”, “Luna weak”

    LUNA WOULD WHOOP YO ASS!

  • what is it about 4 dudes going on a road-trip without any female companions that make me suspect that these guys a ####### each other in the ass at night

  • tsengakera

because you’ve been reading to many fanfictions

  • stevenm281

    tell that to Leviathan…

  • stevenm281

If you’ve never went anywhere with your same gender friends exclusively, its your problem mate.

Most schools I went to guys hang around with guys, girls with girls, unless it was a party where they would mix.

  • Derek Johnson

YES!… Aranea was one of the most intriguing characters imo. Plus there is already way too much boy band action in this game already.

  • Gabriel Hage

    Luna = Aerith
Aerith in Final Fantasy VII was not a fighter either… we could play with her until the moment she died.

  • Vallen

There is nothing wrong with hanging out with same gender friends, stop pushing your left extremist views on others and faulting media that doesn’t cater to your weird expectations.

  • Vallen

Did they really? Do you know which chapter these prompts appear, I’d like to go test it out of curiosity? It would be great if that’s the case!

  • Vallen

There is too much hype for FF7R, I could see the game bombing badly under the weight of heavy expectations and being the biggest disappointment of gaming history.

  • Vallen

As of now, nothing that you have to pay for has been announced for 2018.

  • stevenm281

No idea, ask december, he’s the one that told me about this.

  • Games Das

Damn,I don’t even want to think about it.It sounds too sick after having completed the main campaign of the game and the first two dlcs.

  • Dod

I can understand that, but having this feature implemented one year after the release sounds like a joke to me. Sorry if I’m not as excited as y’all, nothing new here.

  • Noneofyourbusiness

People insinuating that every male friendship is sexual are just as likely to be backwoods conservatives, especially if they’re using crass language like the above.

  • Syul

I think I recall readint that they hadn’t implemented it earlier because they literally weren’t able to do so. Something like they had problems to implement it and they had to work in it for a long time to make it possible. But even so, the gameplay of the other “bros” is from their DLCs though.

In my case, I prefer having had to wait 1 year and surprise myself with their gameplay in their DLCs and then see it on the base game, rather than having had it in the game itself from the start and not have it as something new on their DLCs. It’ll make NG+ feel kinda more interesting, imo.

  • Kyle

This is going to be great.

  • stevenm281

Plus, they needed to develop a battle system for each character and they couldn’t do it within the time they were allowed.

  • Codes McGodes

I’m guessing Episode: Ravus. Could also be Aranea.

  • Codes McGodes

I hope we get to see the destruction of Solheim. This should at least cover the origins of the Starscourge and Izunia. I wonder when in the game it would take place though. Assuming there’s a prompt for it, it’d have to be after his revelation that he was a Lucian king. That basically puts it either immediately before or immediately after Comrades.

  • Luke Watts

There will be no option to balance this in such a way that it will please the majority… as the diversity of expectations are to great, and the stubbornness of the fans is too strong. So you’re right. It will be met with more hatred than praise. Just look at the division already regarding the decision to avoid turn based combat. However they deliver it, as long as it’s complete and tested.

  • •december

they probably lowkey want it themselves

  • •december

After Episode Ignis I think most of the main game story will be comprehensible.
This year has been slow but rewarding in terms of completing the story

  • •december

    4k on steam? sounds great
Comrades is most likely environment to house never-before-seen areas of Eos, but we have no news on the future DLC so lets just see!

  • •december

    Episode Umbra
…I’m still hopeful for a human-form Umbra, or atleast some explanation

  • •december

these are the words I wanna hear!

  • •december

was gonna replay it after Episode Ignis comes out…
might have to play it after the further 3 DLCs are released

  • •december

So I’m guessing this was the unannounced expansion DLC and I’m hyped.

  • Justice V

Ep Ravus would be my favorite, though I’m really hoping for Daemon Hunter Iris episode too.

  • Justice V

So far the only one I’ve seen/played was Chapter 13 when you get off the car and get separated. The game gives you a prompt to follow Ignis and Gladio or stick with Noctis. Kinda wanna go back and play chapter 8(I think) when Gladio leaves to see if it’ll give you a prompt to play episode Gladio at that point. If it doesn’t I feel like they might add that as a prompt as some point once episode Ignis is out.

  • Justice V

Even if FFVIIR is amazing it’s going to get a crap ton of hate just because of nostalgia and expectations from fans. It’s either going to get hate for leaving bits out, changing story elements, not being ATB anymore, or any number of other things that people will latch on to and condemn SE for. Regardless if it still has everything from VII that made it great (other than ATB which was never really a huge selling point for me even back in ’97).

  • Justice V

It’s a hard thing for Japanese companies to get behind hard modes because the vast majority of gamers in Japan don’t like games where they die often apparently. So easy mode (undying mode) is pretty much what they want for normal, and a little challenge with possible deaths once in a while is their hard mode. Granted with how much XV was marketed to the west you’d think they would have added in an even harder version where you can’t use phoenix downs, or something, but it is what it is.

  • Justice V

As soon as I got another party member Aerith was off my team in a flash. I only keep healers/worthless fighters in if I reaaaally need their healing magic, and for the most part in any FF you don’t need them.

  • stevenm281

I always do many playthrough of my favorite games so in FFXV case, I’ll have completed the 2016 version, this Holiday I’ll play the 2017 version, and next Christmast, I’ll play the 2018 version.

  • Codes McGodes

If I could choose, I’d probably ask for an Episode: Kingsglaive or Episode: Regis just to put KG back in the story. But I seriously doubt that will happen.

Otherwise, I’d be happy with an Episode: Ravus. I don’t really like Ravus, but that’s mostly due to his character being so poorly developed and his motivations not making any sense. He and Luna both desperately need better development, so I’d be all for Episode: Ravus.

  • CallMeGod

Now imagine character switching being in the game at launch, story episode DLC at launch, and game with the second pass of story DLC at launch, FF15 would had be a masterpiece everyone love instead of this piece of shit that is incomplete and everyone hate on.

  • Noctis

Who in his right mind needs Episode Luna or Ardyin after all this mess?

  • •december

    go cry, emo prince

  • Games Das

The major problem with FFXV is that it has introduced way too many NPCs,each of whom have an important role to play in the entire story of the game.If SE truly wanted to give a so-called complete experience, they would have been left with two options
1.Integrating everything in the main game and making it a 200+ hours of campaign or
2.Release an Episode dlc for each and every NPC.
Neither of the above two were ever possible given that the development team were in a difficult position.Nor it is practically possible to deliver it now.
    That’s why if we
want the game to be complete,we would need to have each and every
element in the Survey list that we signed up for a couple of months ago.
For this reason, such ambitious games must have a well planned schedule for each stage of the development process, which FFXV lacked. This is important because each stage involves how the Director decides the story to progress along with the characters.
To substantiate this,I would give the example of The Witcher 3,which is of the same genre as FFXV.Andej Sapkowski had written a series of seven books on The Witcher and CD Projekt adapted it with keeping each and every NPC in mind which they delivered though out the game. This is because they were well organized in each stage of their development.
I have read every book and then played through TW3.The NPCs introduced have their own story and quest line implemented in the game which is just magnificient such as
    1.Main Story-Geralt,Yennefer,Triss,Ciri,Dandelion,Zoltan,Francesca,Ida,Philipa,DIjikstra,Fringilla,Margarita,Emyhr,Radovid and Zoltan,to name a few.
2.DLCs-Shani,Anna Henrietta,Emiel Regis Godefroy,Duchess Anna Henrietta and Lady of the Lake,to name a few.
It was this reason as to why TW3 is well regarded as a RPG masterpiece and also won over 800 awards, making it the most awarded title in gaming history.
I had uninstalled the game thinking that FFXV will remain unfinished for all time. But after I reading the news that there is going to be Episode Ardyn,I changed my mind and I am willing to reinstall the game once Episode Ignis is released. Not to mention I will also buy FFXV(Steam) the first day its price is released on the Steam Store page to admire its beautiful CG using my 4K VR-ready machine.
Now at least, the FFXV might just become the game that we all dreamt and paid for,for which I am happy.Though at this point I am more interested to know about my dream game from SE-FFXVI:Agni’s Philosophy.I want to see if my machine can handle FFXVI at 4K or 8K.

  • Codes McGodes

I hope not. Thoughts and prayers for a Niflheim expansion.

  • Jesiah Grant

yeah it seems there very much not finshed with xv

  • Jesiah Grant

alas VII wasn’t an open world game its a totally different circumstance, just coz shes a female character with magic attributed to her doesn’t mean she should be playable. There are other female characters that should be playable in XV imo

  • Jesiah Grant

    True that bro

  • Codes McGodes

I disagree. Episodes Prompto, Gladio, Ignis, and Comrades have certainly helped to fill in the gaps that were intentionally left in the story, and that’s definitely worth talking about. But I think one of the biggest problems with the game that’s yet to be addressed is the lack of development among the supporting cast. Tbh, Gladio, Prompto, Noctis, Ignis and Ardyn are the only characters who DON’T need additional development, as they all received the lion’s share of the game’s screen time. I mean they needed a couple of questions answered, but as characters they were all pretty well fleshed out to begin with. The characters who suffered the most were Luna, Ravus, Verstael, Glauca, Regis and Iedolas, all of whom are supposed to be important characters and all of whom are barely in the game, if at all. I’d really like to see an Empire update that shows what the empire’s up to throughout the course of the game. There’s a lot that happens behind the scenes that I would like to see in terms of shifts in character motivations and general story development for the key players of the empire. Without strong villains to root against, the empire just ends up being this really generic ‘force’. And especially with Ardyn playing both sides and Kingsglaive removed entirely, their ultimate downfall had no real impact.

  • Codes McGodes

I’m finding it harder and hard to wait to replay it. I’m dying to play all the DLC but I’m really trying to wait until ALL the DLC is done.

  • Ryuke

The FFXV subreddit is a toxic cesspit of fanboys who will not let you say anything remotely like a criticism of the game or else they come for you in hoards with the downvotes. I had to unsubscribe a few months after the game released as it wasn’t even amusing to read after a while. The general Final Fantasy subreddit is much better, thankfully.

  • Ryuke

Firstly, so what if they do?

Secondly, a group of people who are the same gender automatically means something sexual between them? I hope you’ve never been in the same room as someone the same sex as you, people might start suspecting…! Especially if you’re as uncomfortable in your own skin as you sound.

And finally, of all the themes and topics their road trip and friendship covers, I very much doubt their sexual preference made it anywhere on anyone’s priority list to think about. Apart from fanfic writers.

Oh, also, why just at night? Maybe they’re morning people. Or like a bit on the side with their lunch.

  • Nick Greeley

Episode Ardyn will dwell on the lore of Eos, which is definitely needed

  • stevenm281

he leaves at the end of Chapter 6, he’s away during Chapter 7: Party of Three, and comes back for Chapter 8

  • Nick Greeley

Pretty sure the “unannounced expansion” was the Assassin’s Festival

  • Nick Greeley

    Hoping for Episode Regis imo

  • Nick Greeley

XV has no affect on VIIR’s development lol. They’re completely different teams developing completely different systems

  • stevenm281

My guesses for the 3rd DLC next year:

    – Episode Iris, the Demon Slayer
    – Episode Cor
    – Episode Aranea
    – Episode Ravus

  • Luke Watts

If you think that they wouldnt take feedback on certain elements of prior games regardless of develop teams you have rocks in your head. Or were you just looking for an opportunity to state you know something…

  • Noctis

    No

  • stevenm281

There’s a difference between taking feedbacks and actually taking assets.

I’m sure Division 1 built their own mechanic for Character Switching rather than wait for 15 to do it and getting feedback on it, and then use it in their game.

  • •december

    Episode 24 Messengers.
Still don’t know who all 24 messengers are, just that Umbra and Pryna and Gentiana definitely are some of them

  • •december

I’m thinking they can encorporate this into Comrades.
everything we saw in Cartanica, just make it a really nice backdrop and some unseen areas, the whole thing could be fully open world or not – but it’s definitely possible within Comrades!

  • Syul

If they show the rest of the Messengers that would be so, SO awesome!

Plot twist: imagine if any other character we already know is a Messenger? xDDD

  • stevenm281

Yeah we could free hunt demons in Lucis, and Cartanica, maybe even Tenebrae, and Gralea.

  • Syul

The fact that you don’t need it doesn’t mean others don’t, or that we aren’t “on our right mind”. It’s just… everyone has its opinion and wants?

I respect it if you don’t like/want it, regardless of if it’s necessary or not, but saying the “right mind” thing is unnecessary and not very much respectful.

FFXV might be a mess, but this mess is getting better with time and listening to feedback. The story is getting more details with every lore addition (receiving as well gameplay ones), and that’s something a lot of us appreciate. Like, really, a lot of us do. Looking around a bit in social media and so on, well, you can see that the news have settled well with people, and a lot of us are excited about it.

Still… I would say that not only a lot of fans want Episode Ardyn or Luna, but that the game itself NEEDS it. Luna needed (needs) more fleshing, and Ardyn’s story would feel more impacting if it was seen what actually happened. They’re very important characters, any fleshing they can do is welcomed if it’s to make them better.

I get that a lot of you don’t like FFXV (and I can understand that waiting for 10 years and not being satisfied at all with the final game much must be annoying and hurtful), but at least let the people who does enjoy the game and not call us “out of our right mind” because we want a certain content, thank you.

As a last thing, this is something I can’t help but wonder about… If FFXV disgusts you, why keep yourself around it? It’s not healthy AT ALL. If I hate something or it hurts me, the last thing I do is keep around that thing because doing so is useless and it only serves to make me feel bad as fuck in any sense…

  • stevenm281

Because as much as we’re “out of our right mind”, these people are sick and like torturing themselves.

  • Vallen

I think playable Iris/Cor/Aranea will be a patch for Comrades.

  • stevenm281

    could be!

  • Gabriel Hage

    Really man?
Don’t you need cura, cura-all, curaga, curaja in previous FF?? Well, maybe you are a “Hi-Potion spamming player”.

You know… FFXV does not have a good Magic System like other FFs games because of people like you.
We’re getting new Action RPGs with only damage-based characters. An RPG party needs: healer, assist/crowd control, buffer/debuffer… the gameplay becomes much better and attractive with these options!

Players no longer want to think ways of how to defeat a monster or Bosses with strategies. They simply prefer that everyone in their party has as much damage as possible so that they can all attack at the same time and the boss dies with a Hit Kill. Like battles in FFXV 1.0!

Comrades DLC introduced a new way to heal/shield assist allies without spamming potions, now they just need to implement it in the main game and we will have Healers.

Familiar phrases on the internet nowadays:
    “Games today are too easy”;
    “This game needs a hard mode”;
    “Old games were much deeper”;
    “This game isn’t a RPG”.

    Guess why????

I won’t rest until Tenebrae is explorable!
the only thing I ever wanted to do is fly the Regalia around Tenebrae, but now just exploring it would be enough. Imagine some cable cars around Tenebrae like they did in Dark World Lestallum

  • •december

I’m starting to think Cor Leonis, Monica and/or Dave are Messengers…
Finding out who they all were (or atleast their purpose, amirite?) would
put my weary soul to rest

  • Syul

Same here! And I’ve thought of that too, to be honest.

It could be debunked due to the fact that t’s said that Cor was born in Insomnia, but well, we know almost nothing about Messengers (if they were always immortal or they’re chosen mortals, how their roles go, about being “Vessels” for gods…), so who knows xD

To be honest, I’ve always think there’s “something weird” about him. He’s always given me that impression. Knowing about him, either he’s almost the perfect warrior (albeit with a weird luck), or he hides something (or there’s something more and he doesn’t know). I mean, I can’t be the only one that thinks on how a 15 years old brat has been able to defeat Gilgamesh, right?

I get that Gladiolus had been able to do so, but because he has like 10 years more of experience in fighting than Cor had back in the day (and his family is dedicated precisely to military, whereas Cor’s was a humble one), and because he’s not too overconfident. And still, he earned some scars and it wasn’t easy.

Cor was defeated, yes, but he took Gilgamesh’s arm, and Gilgamesh considered him worthy enough to spare his life even if he hadn’t defeated him (weird given the fact that Gilgamesh is pretty much “be worthy or die”)… Not to mention that he took Cor’s katana (which is an old weapon of his family) to use it (and it’s the only other weapon he uses along his usual sword if my memory doesn’t fail me).

Monica, I don’t know… But Dave, Dave IS weird. His family is weird. A witch that can make potions to keep Daemons at bay (HOW) if I remember well and that has a monster infected with Starscourge as “pet” is his aunt, and that’s weird enough, but well… Noticed Dave’s tattoos? His name’s meaning is kind of interesting too, although it would have nothing to do with Messengers.

Hey, in case they were Messengers, of what god do you think they would be? xD (Also… what the frick frack is exactly Carbuncle? .__.)

  • 4FFAN

Carbuncle is also a Messenger. In the Japanese version of the game, it is said that Naglfar (a super-boss in the game) killed most of them, so I assume the rest are dead.

  • •december

so why haven’t the living ones explained who they all were
and how it came to this

  • 4FFAN

Surprised by the amount of positive comments on this article! That means Square is doing the right thing 🙂

  • •december

    Carbuncle is an Astral

and yeah Dave and Cor are very mysterious.

The witch will be coming to Comrades in 10 days time in the new update, maybe shed some light on her background

  • Syul

That’s why I’m confused about Carbuncle, he’s an Astral, but like, the other ones are Astrals too but considered gods D: Meanwhile Carbuncle is forgotten except for, it seems, Regis, because he gave him the amulet to Noctis.

Wishing they would say something about the him tbh~

Didn’t remember the witch was coming to Comrades omg xD Thanks for the reminder haha, let’s hope she does!

  • chizwoz

The way they’ve phrased it, it sounds to me like Ardyn will take up 2 of the DLC.

  • •december

It's making more and more sense to me why Lunafreya
didn't text message or call Noctis.. you know the whole tracking thing.
(yes I rewatched Brotherhood just now and the 'Somnus scene' from Kingsglaive between her and Nyx)

    This here
Can we get a Comrades expansion to Insomnia and a view of the "Caelum Via" hotel?
    One last time!

  • •december

Well, I rewatched Brotherhood and Kingsglaive's 'Somnus scene' and I can say I wholeheartedly agree, but that wasn't what I said. I said this year has been successful in giving us the missing parts of the story. As for what you said it's happening so I don't see what you're trying to say lol

  • •december

The idea of PC Edition FFXV has me excited because of the likely mods which will come with it. Watching Brotherhood a year on, Tenebrae is a paradise and I am still compelled to explore it and many more!
As for the main game, we're getting closure and I don't think there's much left to explain other than Luna's side of the story/purpose, Episode Ardyn (which is coming) and the 24 Messengers

  • •december

oh I thought Carbuncle was an Astral
I think we’re both right though, he is mentioned as a summon.
as he comes to aid when Noctis is in peril, but maybe that doesn’t make him one of the 6 God-like Astrals, maybe a lesser one like a messenger.
Gentiana is both Astral and messenger so why not

  • Justice V

Well in FFVII you could just put cure materia into weapons so having a dedicated healer was kinda pointless, only her Limit Break healing was really useful at that point. I also over grind in every game I ever play because I just like grinding. So I’m almost always way over leveled whenever I fight any boss, and if I’m not I just go out and grind until I am. It’s not even on purpose it just always seems to be how I play. I remember being scared of fighting Seph in Crisis Core, but I was like 20 levels higher than recommended so he barely touched me and the fight was over super fast. Kinda disappointing on that one heh.

Oh I’ve also rarely if ever used buff/debuff spells in rpgs ever. Healing spells I agree are important, especially in games that give you little money and make potions/revives rare. But buffs and rebuffs I’ve never found use for.

Even in comrades I barely heal, I mostly just ensure I have food on me and when I die I revive. Dunno. I still feel like if you want to play with a strategy heal/buff/debuff/attack approach you can, it’s just not the only way to battle in rpgs, especially ffs that have summons and multi class characters. The biggest complaint when FFVII came out was that anyone could be a white, black, red, etc mage. FF has just kinda compounded upon that idea since.

I also disagree with all those sentiments that people online express about not an rpg or games being deeper. The games were deeper if you made it harder on yourself, this game gives you options to make it harder on yourself as well. Older games were harder because there were less save points so dying was a pain in the ass, now games have the capability to save at almost any point, so if you die on a boss you don’t have to travel an hour down a dungeon to get back to the boss that you died on. Older rpgs were never even really that hard in the main story, it was always the optional omni bosses that were hard. Like the weapons in FF, the hidden dragons in Breath of Fire, etc.

While I personally don’t like to use magic all that often in RPG’s I do agree XV’s magic could have been more robust. They give you all the buff/debuff abilities (except time I think), but they’re all in items you can use rather than spells to cast, or just as a bonus to the three typical spells. The spells aren’t that impressive looking either. it’s more like Witcher’s boring magic use, actually Witcher’s might even be more exciting. I was hoping Ring magic would have had more buff/debuff effects or even protective magic rather than just omni, death and holy. Because even though I don’t use them almost ever, it’s nice to have the option if you need it. Hopefully with the next one they’ll improve the parts that were lacking and keep the parts that were promising.

  • Justice V

Ah yeah, forgot how it worked out heh. So far the only chapter I’ve replayed were 12 and 13 and beat the whole game the first month it came out, the chapters all kinda blur together.

  • Justice V

Yeah exactly. I hated him in Kingsglaive cuz he acted like a fool, but in main game he seems to have a lot more depth, it’s just not developed enough. I think there are a total of 3-4 cutscenes now plus his letters to Luna explaining his goals and why he acted how he did in KG, but I’d like to see more. I guess Ep Ignis develops him more too since he’s the partner this time around.

Another cool episode would be Aranea breaking away from Niffleheim, but that’s really all I care about in her story.

KG episode would be awesome, but I think that’s what they meant Comrades to be kinda. Playable NYX and how he became a ‘hero’ would be pretty awesome though.

  • Gabriel Hage

Indeed. I hope they will improve It!

  • stevenm281

I think it’d be better before Comrades

  • Codes McGodes

Strongly agree on Aranea. I feel pretty satisfied with her, but considering she was initially introduced as a villain and the literal next time you see her she’s your buddy, would be nice to show that transition more. Everyone in the empire needs more development tbh. Iedolas and Verstael in particular (I haven’t played Episode Prompto yet so idk how much Verstael is in it). Would have liked to see more of Glauca for that matter.

And also agree on Nyx. I could handle him being playable in an Episode: Kingsglaive, but otherwise would be nice to see him at all in the story. His visage at the end realistically would have no impact on Noctis, or anyone who didn’t watch Kingsglaive. Same with Iedolas.

  • Connie

  • Justice V

Yep. My only consoling thought on Nyx at the end having any impact on Noct would be that if he’s actually a hero of the kingsglaive, maybe Noct knew of him via royal events whatever. But even then it’s a stretch.

  • NoctLightCloud

Is Cor really that popular? I didn’t know Ep Cor was even demanded from fans. My guess would’ve been Aranea since she’s everywhere on Instagram and Facebook.

  • Lucas Nóbrega Maia

It’s an old man that speak wise edge line and is a iai kenjutsu user , turning in some kind of FF’s Vergil , so yeah , it’s popular.

  • NoctLightCloud

As someone who’s really into some boy groups, I couldn’t disagree more about the four characters looking/behaving like a boy group, but since that’s the conception of basically everyone who’s played this game but has a twisted image of what a boy group really is/looks like, I’ll leave it this way. (Imo Wakka and Tidus and even Squall and Xell are much closer to a boy group, but definitely not Gladio and Ignis. Those two and the image of *boy*groups are like fire and water.) Having experienced Noctis as a kid and 30-yrs old man too, I also don’t really link him to that image.
As for Aranea: hell to the yes!♡

  • NoctLightCloud

I agree. The real joke is that they claimed that (and I remember that clearly since I wanted a character swap so badly) the console couldn’t handle the swap or that they “wanted to focus on Noctis”. They added it for free now, I don’t see the point here. They didn’t even lock it away to milk it. Very strange.

  • NoctLightCloud

    Regis is a good guess!

  • NoctLightCloud

Yes! How could I forget about Ravus! I hope it’s Aranea or Ravus. Aranea has been popular ever since Versus13.

  • NoctLightCloud

I see. The moment I read “old man that speak wise edge line and is a iai kenjutsu user”, I had nothing else to add to that.xD

  • Lucas Nóbrega Maia

true , this game was incomplete and I agree with Episode Ignis , Gladio and Prompto should already be in the main game.
Heck , I think the main game should have 30 chapters , so that we could get Tenebrae and Nilfheim open to us

  • stevenm281

the amount of Chapters is irrelevant, they could simply make each chapter bigger, more specifically the ones for the regions you mentioned.

  • Lucas Nóbrega Maia

I don’t know , some chapters I think it should be bigger , others I think it would be better to just be the same lenght we know.
Well , I would be ok if each chapter takes the double lenght than what it was today , so it would essencially be a “30 chapters in 15”

  • Dod

I can’t really know if you’re being sarcastic here. Either way I won’t bother debating about this update any further, my point has been made.
“For free” doesn’t mean it’s inherently good or exciting and therefore can’t be criticized.

  • stevenm281

it gave me more the impression that they chose to do 3 DLCs rather than 4 to make them more worthwhile.

    But who knows?

  • NoctLightCloud

I think there’s a missunderstanding here, but anyways, I’m on the same side as you.

  • Dod

My bad, I thought your comment was being sarcastic as it completely contradicts your previous one. Written text is hard to interpret sometimes, sorry about that.

  • chizwoz

    The translation was ambiguous.
The part where they said they’ll make sure each release is satisfactory before moving onto the next one suggests there won’t necessarily be a fixed number at all.

  • stevenm281

    true

  • NoctLightCloud

It’s fine, it can happen. (That’s a disadvantage of the internet era we have to live with, I guess.)

no surprise, they released an incomplete product.
