The second major content patch after Final Fantasy XIV‘s Stormblood expansion arrives on Tuesday, January 30th. Titled “Rise of a New Sun”, the patch will include a wealth of new content including the continuation of the main scenario, a Final Fantasy VI-themed raid, new dungeons, sidequests, and many new features. With the exception of action changes to PvE and PvP content (you can read more in the official patch notes), we’ve created a quick reference guide to unlock all the new content and point out some of the major features.

Quality of Life

• You will no longer be able to skip cutscenes in Main Scenario Roulette, which is composed of Castrum Meridianum and The Praetorium duties. The amount of Allagan Tomestones of Poetics rewarded from completing this duty has been adjusted to compensate for the longer completion time.
• Expert Roulette will now include duties Hells’ Lid and The Fractal Continuum (Hard). Duty Roulette: Level 70 Dungeons has been added to the Duty Finder and will include: Ala Mhigo, Kugane Castle, Temple of the Fist, and The Drowned City of Skalla. The Royal City of Rabanastre has been added to Alliance Roulette.
• With the arrival of the new raid tier, Allagan Tomestones of Mendacity can now be exchanged for gear.
• The Duty Recorder feature can record an instanced duty provided all party members approve. Currently The Jade Stoa The Jade Stoa (Extreme) are available to record. You can store up to three recordings and you will be able to play them back at an inn.
• The Scenario Guide will now display any available class or job quest for your equipped class or job.
• The Performance feature will now have its own UI where you can map keyboard or gamepad inputs. Four instruments are now available including: harp, piano, lute
  and fiddle. You will also be able to adjust the volume of instrument sounds you or others use.
• Items can now be stacked up to 999, and chocobo saddlebags have been added to store an additional 70 items. Item levels will now be displayed for food.
• You’ll no longer be inflicted with the Heavy status when taking a hit while mounted.
• Elemental resistance properties have been removed from players, materia, and consumables. Different parameters will be used in harvesting from certain nodes.
• Item level sync has been adjusted to 370 for the Lost Canals of Uznair and Hidden Canals of Uznair. Adjustments to the acquisition rate for Timeworn Thief’s Map in the Lost Canals of Uznair has been increased and the rewards in the Aquapolis, the Lost Canals of Uznair and the Hidden Canals of Uznair have been adjusted.
• PvP Teams can now be created, and include their own ranking at ability to chat with team members only.
• In Astragalos campaigns for the Rival Wings PvP mode healing mammets will be 50% effective as it was before. Ranged physical and magic damage will now hit for less damage if beyond 15 yalms of the target. Soaring has had its damage reduction effect removed. The amount of ceruleum awarded for destroying mammets has been increased from 10 to 20 and ceruleum acquired from controlling a power generator is 1 every 5 seconds. The number and positioning of ceruleum tanks that appear during battle has been changed and the range of the steam cannon’s Cannonfire action has been adjusted.
• After certain real-world events, Square Enix suspended automatic estate demotions if the player is inactive for a certain amount of time. With the release of Patch 4.2, the demolition schedule has been reinstated.
• You can now toggle on or off the background music that plays when targeted by an enemy in the field. This does not include enemies from FATEs, Hunts, or duties.
• Wondrous Tales has been updated to include The Royal City of Rabanastre alliance raid. Certificates of commendation have been added which can be exchanged for unique items.
• New Emotes:
  /charmed, /biggrin, /reflect, /furrow, /scoff, /tremble, /winded, /aback, and /greet

  New achievements, hairstyles, minions, mounts, and chocobo barding have been added.

Points of Interest

• Glamour dressers have been added to inn rooms.This feature will allow you to convert equipment in your inventory to a selectable option in the glamour dresser. Gear, once transformed into a glamour, can no longer be used as an item. This is an irreversible process. Transformed gear no longer exists as an item. You can use up to 10 Glamour Plates to store outfits.
• Three new dungeons are now available for Squadron command missions: Dzemael Darkhold, Pharos Sirius, and Copperbell Mines (Hard). In addition to overall AI tweaks, enmity-generating actions for gladiator and marauder units has been adjusted, as has the use of attack actions of thaumaturges.
• Subaquatic Voyages have been added to the company workshop. From the company crafting log, you will be able to add a schematic for a submersible. The parts used will determine the amount of distance the submersible will travel. Voyages will require ceruleum tanks which can be purchased using company credits. Dispatching the submersible on various voyages will reveal previously uncharted waters, thus revealing more potential voyages.
• Six wards have been added to all residential districts, each of which includes a subdivision. An apartment building has also been added to each ward, with a second apartment building available in each subdivision. They will be available one week after the release of Patch 4.2. Plots designated for free company use will be limited to purchase by free companies with at least four members. Players may only have one free company estate and one personal estate. To discourage the resale of plots, any plots relinquished by owners will be unavailable for purchase for a limited time. You will now be able to teleport directly to a friend’s estate — they must include a mini-aetheryte on their property. Exterior and interior fixtures will no longer be lost when remodeling an estate. New furnishings have been added from community design contests, new orchestrion rolls, new aquarium fish, and new flowers.
• The Fashion Report mini-game has been added to the Gold Saucer. Each Tuesday a new theme will be revealed, in which you must equip or glamour certain pieces of gear you think matches that theme. On Fridays you will be “judged” with a score of 1 to 100. Participation will net you 10,000 MGP, and scoring above 80 will net 50,000 MGP. It will also grant you access to Kasumi’s boutique, which will include unique items. It is possible to undertake this challenge up to four times each week between Friday and the following Tuesday before a new theme has been decided.
• New prizes at the Gold Saucer can be purchased with MGP. You can now instantly be teleported to an upcoming or ongoing GATE by speaking with an attendant. GATEs will now reward MGP if you fail to complete them, but not any GATE where you can fall off the stage. “Vase Off” will now reward more MGP and cost less to participate. New emotes have been added to “The Time of My Life”. “Skinchange We Can Believe In” will occur with more frequency, and the location of the atypical adventurer has been adjusted. New Triple Triad cards have been added, as well as a change to the overhead icon indicating you have not obtained a card from a NPC.

Final Fantasy XIV is now available for Windows PC, Steam, Mac, and PlayStation 4.
