Final Fantasy VII Remake is striving to “exceed the original”; new job listing reveals development goal By Wassim Deen on April 21, 2018 at 8:17 PM

In a recent job listing, Square Enix has revealed additional information on the team’s goal and philosophy for the creation of Final Fantasy VII Remake.

The company is seeking a Battle Planner for the game, going into detail about how Business Division 1 (the team behind Mobius Final Fantasy and more) are involved with its development, as well as mentioning other notable information.

According to the job ad, the development team is pursuing towards a “new creation” that is more than just a conventional remake, and with the project in a full-scale development state, they aim to ultimately produce “a game that exceeds the original” of Final Fantasy VII.

Square Enix stresses that this goal is “in a sense more challenging than creating new games”, making it the kind of job that will have an impact on the world as well as one’s growth as a creator.

As Battle Planner, you will be working on the game’s combat system which acts as a combination of commands and actions, with the added responsibility of designing enemies and bosses and setting up parameters of the game’s environments relative to the player’s growth. The company describes the game as “A new Final Fantasy with action elements added to traditional strategy”.

Final Fantasy VII Remake is currently in development for PlayStation 4.

    wait, wut?

  • Randy Marsh

    PS4 and PS5 exclusive now SE? 😕

  • Justice V

Not a huge fan of Mobius’ battle gameplay, but will be interesting to see what the new hire will do in terms of battle planning and mechanics. Guessing they’re going to be going for an industry vet rather than just a nobody so once hired can probably figure out the direction they’ll be headed.

  • De Mattos

That new idea of putting action elements tacked on the strategy of turns has been ruining both for a while. I can’t believe they won’t let this idea die after more than a decade.

    so PS7 launch title….

Interesting how you copied my article on this, then when called on it, you changed the title (which was nearly identical to mine) and even the url removing the wording “development philosophy” that gave you away, instead of giving credit. Too bad that the original url is still available, and reveals your original title. http://www.novacrystallis.com/2018/04/final-fantasy-vii-remake-striving-exceed-original-new-job-listing-reveals-development-philosophy/

Interesting how you copied my article on this, https://www.dualshockers.com/final-fantasy-vii-exceed-original-development/ including basically the same headline wording, and then, when called on it, you changed the headline and even the url to try to hide it instead of correctly giving credit.

Here’s proof for the posterity. https://imgur.com/a/NIsSscJ

Even the original url is still there http://www.novacrystallis.com/2018/04/final-fantasy-vii-remake-striving-exceed-original-new-job-listing-reveals-development-philosophy/

Maybe instead of deleting my comments, you should just give credit where due.

    probably.
If we think of FF7R part 1 to be released next year , with 2 year apart from each other , their released date would be: 2019 , 2021 , 2023.
A lot of people think that PS5 will be announced and maybe even released in 2020 , so we still probably receive part 1 as a PS4 , a remaster of the same in PS5 , maybe a cross-gen in 2021 and an exclusive PS5 in 2023

  • Worrying that they’re still hiring for the team. No way they’ll finish before ps5 comes out next year.

  • Riste-ano Conaldo

Don’t count getting this game soon. I’m totally ok with that even if in 2020-2021. I bet the Ps5 will only come out in 2021, March of 2021, with this as a
launch title, also released on Ps4 at the same time. Ps5 won’t come out before that. The Ps2 came out 6 years after Ps1; Ps3 came out 6,5 years later after the Ps2; Ps4 came out 7 years later after Ps3. Seems more plausable for the Ps5 to come out 7,5 years after the Ps4.

  • Patrick Bateman

still not even sure what PS5 could really update that’ll be different than PS4, unless it’s just an enhanced PS4 like Xbox One X but I figured that’s what PS4 Pro is. I keep hearing all this noise about PS5 but I honestly think it’s still too soon, who knows though lol Doesn’t really feel like the PS4 has lived it’s life yet imo, same with the Xbox One, don’t see them releasing a new system anytime soon after the One X.

  • MajoraMan28

The Remake isn’t an exclusive. It’s timed exclusive

  • Lucas Nóbrega Maia

With that thoughs in your mind , we can say that PS4 is just an update of PS3.
In short , PS3 was really a shock , as it leaps to a higher ground to what we were used with a PS2.
PS5 would probably have an update hardware to make bigger and complex games. Some people think that it will probably have some streamming feature , like some game netflix , but that is not certain.
There is no need to such leap we saught with PS2-> PS3 , when it comes to PS4 – > PS5 , it’s just need to be more efficient.

  • Patrick Bateman

I don’t know 360 games compared to the One was quite the difference, as was PS3 compared to PS4…As long as it keeps some sort of backwards comparability, if not i personally think it’s too soon. I find it ludicrous that companies like Nintendo and Sony will release systems that carry over accounts and use a shared Virtual Store yet make you pay and re-buy your previous downloaded games already tied to your account instead of just transferring them over. That’s one thing Microsoft has been very fair and user friendly with their systems, at least recently. If it’s just a alight graphical update or a more efficient system i think it’s a waste to call it ” PS5″ for example since that’s what the Pro was for, no? if that’s the case than Xbox One X is Xbox “2”. But who knows, maybe tech really is just advancing at an insane rate and there really is a need to release a new system. It just feels like these days with all the “Slims” and remodels of current gens in between it feels like it’s a bit much to keep up to date. Games are definitely looking more and more realistic though that’s for sure.

  • T-bag115 Gaming

I think thats the right way to do it.

  • Miqote

This better be at E3 man. We should be getting an update on this game. Don’t make this another VersusXIII situation….

  • 4FFAN

With KHIII and Rise of the Tomb Raider basically confirmed to be making an appearance and Square teasing new game reveals at E3 (maybe the Avengers project?)…I fear FF7 Remake might skip E3 again. It would overshadow the games that are coming out this year which would not be good for promoting the game.

  • stevenm281

I fear you are right… but still, I’m gonna stay hopeful.

  • Stop copying articles from other sites. It’s clear as day that you’re just changing some words.

  • D.3ND

There Wont be that much info since they want KHIII to have all then attention since it’s going to be released this year. After the released, the info for re:VII starts coming in.

  • Justice V

yeah wouldn’t expect much on this. 1 it was announced way too early again since the work done on it seems still very early. 2: KH, Tomb Raider, Dragon Quest, New mech spy game set in russia, etc are likely to all get the spotlights this year. If anything maybe a tease of a trailer, which is slightly worse than just staying quiet if they’ll just ignore questions bout it after.

  • x5kevleo

See you FF7 in 10 years.

  • Kyle

This is where I choose to read my Final Fantasy news, so I don’t care or know! You should be a nicer person!

  • stevenm281

They’re not stealing information, nor trying to make people believe that they were the interviewers, they do credit the original source at the bottom of their articles, as always.

Nova Crystallis has a community to inform, and their job is to obtain the latest info across the entire Internet so that we, members of the community, don’t have to search all theses different sources for info. We can simply come here, and know everything from one place.

  • 4FFAN

Yeah that’s what I was thinking too. We’ll get more info in 2019, my guess for the release is Q4 2019 AT THE EARLIEST. It’s most likely going to be 2020 and I wouldn’t be surprised if it released in 2021. I believe they already confirmed it would be coming in 2021 at the latest so that’s good.

  • Not stealing? You sure? Giuseppe from DualShockers translates the texts originally in Japanese to English, then someone here just changes some words without having to deal with Japanese, and credits the japanese source. No effort. I could agree with you if the redator here were crediting DualShockers, but that’s no the case.

  • Average Afro

“and changes some words” So you mean they could have translated it slightly different?

    Shocking.

  • Erren Van Duine

We didn’t use Dualshockers as a source. If we did, we would have credited them properly.

  • Codes McGodes

I feel the same. Idk where people are getting all this PS5 talk from. The PS4 JUST started hitting its stride like a year or two ago, and the PS4 Pro JUST came out last year. Y’all need to relax and enjoy your damn PS4.

Like honestly when the PS4 first launched it didn’t even feel next-gen. I saw very little difference between the PS3 and the PS4’s graphical capabilities. That was only compounded by the fact that so many titles were available for both, and a lot of their biggest titles were PS3 remasters (e.g. The Last of Us). PS4 finally feels like a superior console now and we still have many more years to enjoy it. I’ll be furious if they move on any time soon tbh. I can’t even imagine PS5 games looking much better than PS4 games look now anyway. PS3 was around for 9 years before the PS4, and the PS4 took another few years to feel like more than just a half-upgrade. Like god damn give them some time to create better hardware ffs.

  • Then why did you alter the header after his message, and blocked him from commenting on your site? You wouldn’t take these measures if not afraid of something.

  • Patrick Bateman

Yep last gen could’ve lasted a few more years as it is and Pro/One X could’ve been current gen base models. You’re not getting “better” games because a new console comes out, and graphics are fine. Only real improvements from this point forward handle game stability and console memory space out of the box. Same reason I never bothered with the Switch, it was too soon from the Wii-U. They gave up on the Wii-U too early imo and is probably a huge part in why it failed, and now the Switch aside from being 100% portable, is just getting a bunch of $89.99 HD ports from the U….if the next Xbox/PS systems really are coming out sometime soon I’m going to skip them until they get remodeled/cheaper. Most of my friends are just NOW upgrading to the One X lol

  • Stonespear

Nice blinders. You must live a happy life.

  • Ray Muñoz

I’m thinking that if there is any chance of a glimpse at FFVII this year, it would be at PSX since Kingdom Hearts will most likely launch in November.

  • MasterLink

I pretty sure they will announce new FF title/titles at E3. If they won’t, it will confirm to me they have not learned their lesson after they pulled Nomura of his dream project FFXV.
