Utada Hikaru and Skrillex collaborate for Kingdom Hearts III opening theme By Raptorchan on September 28, 2018 at 12:51 AM

Announced on the official twitter account for Kingdom Hearts, Utada Hikaru and Skrillex have revealed that Kingdom Hearts III will have an entirely new theme song for the game’s opening cinematic.

According to Square Enix, Skrillex, a long time fan of the Kingdom Hearts series, had originally intended to remix the previously revealed Utada Hikaru track, Don’t Think Twice. However, due to the pair’s friendship, a new and original song had been created for the opening theme, titled: Face My Fears.

Producing the theme is the acclaimed record producer Poo Bear, who had previously produced Justin Bieber’s multi-platinum selling single, What Do You Mean?

Face My Fears is scheduled for release alongside Don’t Think Twice on January 18th, 2019.

Kingdom Hearts III is scheduled to release in Japan on January 25, 2019 and in North America and Europe on January 29, 2019 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

I’m actually looking forward to this.

  • I hate the idea. Why waste time on this. One song is enough. This is time and money not well spent. it reminds me of when FFXV had that real life version of the car in the game. No one asked for that. so why bother when all you need to do is work hard to get all the content in the game before release so we won’t need DLC to see parts you missed.

Wow. Who put a giant turd in your bowl of cereal this morning?

  • JohnCaseyCB

I guess dubstep never dies. XD

  • OvanCross

    that turd gotta be huge

  • Hear me out.
What kills games these days? They always fly super close to the sun and just burn thru a budget when they don’t need to. There was no need for the real car with FFXV. And there’s no need for this. KH1 and 2 always had a fast and slow version of the same song sang by the same person. Now they want TWO song by two people who they will have to each pay. SMH No. Focus on what matters. The gameplay. The story. Wrapping things up. No need to add more to it that isn’t game related this LATE in the year right before the due date.

My care-o-meter is reaching critical levels.

  • CokaineCowboyFFVII

I don’t think he’s trying to make you care, mate.

  • One Eco

Do you realize that you are not the one that is making the game, right?
Thus, it is not your money; it’s SE’s. SE’s decides, thus your opinion doesn’t matter.

It’s kind of obvious that Skrillex and Utada had been doing this before the recent announcement, they obvious just revealed it now due to obvious contractual obligations. I mean not trying to slam Utada, but Don’t Think Twice wasn’t exactly a song that would song too good as an upbeat jpop remix.

Plus this has nothing to do directly with the game’s actual development outside of cutscene editing and if Yoko had to make new pieces to include motifs of Face My Fears, considering that the main themes of KH games are used minimally in each games’ OST, I highly doubt that is even the case. So highly doubt this will slow down the game’s development or will impact it, since its all completely separate divisions. Especially if all this was done way before. <- Some of my friends work at Gearbox, Activision, and formely Square-Enix to inform me of some of this game development stuff.

  • Still seems like a waste of time and resources.

  • Not does anyone’s here. But we are allowed to say them regardless.
Who is going to stop me from voicing how I feel about a company that’s been on the rocks for a while. KH is the last good series they have and I don’t want to see them toss around money on useless stuff when gameplay is what they should sink money into.

  • That’s just how I see. If you don’t see it that way, block me for all I care. But it needed to be said in my eyes.

  • JohnCaseyCB

Still seems like your record is scratched up and keeps skipping and repeating the same verse over and over.

  • Patrick Bateman

lmfao i’m good. I heard what Skrillex did for Black Ops 2, no thanks!

  • Patrick Bateman

pretty sure you’re the turd in their bowl bud. troll harder.

  • So block me.

If Skrill was already hired to remix Utada’s song for the intro (which is likely as someone has remixed her themes with every KH to date so far anyway), then SE isn’t wasting any more time or money on it than planned from the begining. They might have to pay Utada a bit more to license another song from them. Or she might have to pay them in order to license it so she can put it out on a single later. Depends how her contract with music production is for SE.

Bottom line though is this should barely if at all effect SE’s game development pipeline or budget.

Like the car used in FFXV Kingsglaive (not the one in the game). Making that car had no impact on the development of the game. All it had an impact on was forcing the movie division to use an audi instead of the regalia in the movie, which was probably decided relatively early on. The car in the game and the real one made to sell were labeled as product placement, which means Audi paid SE to make it and then likely got the money from the sale of the replica. XV game dev teams only real wasted time on it was probably at the unveiling event and that was basically just Tabata and higher ups being like “Audi made this for us, it’s cool. You can buy it for 3x’s the amount of a normal R8!”

I have no idea who skrillex is, have kinda disliked all the US intro songs and mostly disliked all the Hikari mixes (Passion’s remix was actually kinda good). But there’s no reason to think this is SE/Nomira or anyone wasting time that could be spent making the game more complete or better.

  • Any time or money not spent on gameplay develop is time wasted. If devoted all their time to that and didn’t make remixes or PR stunts like that car they could keep the money to use for future games.

    I just vomited a little.

You’ve seen the gameplay dozens of times in trailers and demo playthroughs in the last 3 months and you know that, at the time, it was almost flawless in comparison with past KH games. Also, SE can toss around money because they have A TON of money.
Just look at the FFXV Universe, it generated (and is still generating) millions of bucks even though quality-wise it wasn’t precisely the best.

  • I just don’t see the integrity in what they’re deciding with these games.

  • Final Fantasy

well that sucks i was hoping i would like the soundtrack. i hope kingdom hearts 1.5, 2.5, or 2.8 bundles whatever eventually come to pc.
