World of Final Fantasy Maxima is coming November 6, includes new FF series cameos By Tony Garsow on September 13, 2018 at 8:39 PM

World of Final Fantasy Maxima is an updated version of the 2016 PlayStation 4 RPG that will include new cameos from the Final Fantasy series like Zack (Final Fantasy VII), Serah (Final Fantasy XIII-2), Y’shtola (Final Fantasy XIV), Noctis (Final Fantasy XV), Cecil (Final Fantasy IV), and Firion (Final Fantasy II). This time around there will be an Avatar Change feature that will let you swap out the protagonist twins Reynn and Lann for a legacy character. New monsters will also be available to collect and evolve.

Update: Via Gematsu, the additions the Maxima version has will be available as separate paid DLC on PlayStation 4 and Steam. There will also be a mini-game where you will fish with Noctis.

The best FF game (Yeah I said it! Don’t @ me!) in recent years is becoming even better!

  • NoctLightCloud

Although I have the original PS4 game, I think I will get this one as well.

  • Hard pass.
I like turn-based, but not with my favorite heroes looking like toys and with a pokemon vibe.

  • Randy Marsh

You’re honestly missing out on a good JRPG experience for a petty reason my friend. Honestly, a few hours in, and you tend to get used to the chibis tbh.

  • It’s not petty to me.
I don’t like monster collecting. I don’t like having animals on my head. I don’t like super nice main characters. The game has no bite to it. None of the cast speak to me the way Albel or Arumat or Soma or Fayt would from games I like.

Might get the dlc because of Zack. Best final fantasy character ever!

  • Randy Marsh

Oh no, I meant to the recurring chibi aesthetic reasons you do list lol.

I totally understand the Pokemon one, since it was a worry of mine when I was gonna get into it, but surprisingly that kind of becomes redundant latter in the game once you get Ifrit, Shiva, Ramuh, and a Holy Dragon at the halfway mark.

I will admit that Lann and Reynn are pretty mixed depending on the person you are, however if you give them a chance they eventually grow on you at a certain point, even with their happy-go-lucky nature they have in the first portion. However, the latter is usually a result of the sibling dynamic they have, and not because they’re super nice entirely. I do appreciate how they didn’t make them creepily near incest levels like Japanese media loves to do.

But yeah, I totally understand the latter portion of complaints you address.

I enjoyed it while I played it but I couldn’t take the little flying thing talking so I quit but I may pick it up again someday. Otherwise its a great game!

  • Randy Marsh

Flying thing talking….Tama or Serafie? Like you can hate Tama and her desus all you want, but better not hate on best girl Serafie….

  • Are you mocking me for liking something you don’t like ? Because that would be immature.

  • My favorite games are star ocean , FF, Tales, Wild Arms, Xenosaga and Xenogears, God Eater, and the only nicey nice game I like is Kingdom Hearts. And even that has added more depth and darker more serious tones over time.

  • Randy Marsh

I think it’s the fact you listed Albel and Arumat, the “edgelords” of Star Ocean.

  • Randy Marsh

I see now the general idea of what tone of games you’re into now, I will say WoFF gets a bit darker around the halfway point, but not dark dark. Like it ain’t Xenogears levels of seriousness lol.

  • JohnCaseyCB

I just think you’re trying too hard, but whatever works for you.

  • Noneofyourbusiness

The protagonists have to kill their parents, so.

  • If that was there minus all the monster collecting and chili cameos I’d buy it.

  • Noneofyourbusiness

If you don’t like monster collecting, then I guess you won’t enjoy it. Tone-wise it’s comparable to late Kingdom Hearts. You even lose tragically the first time you play. The people are chibi for a in-story reason, too.

  • Justice V

Chibi isn’t for everyone. It’s the main reason I couldn’t stand FFIX no matter how good the story was if the art can’t appeal to you and you hate looking at the characters for 60+ hours it doesn’t really matter. The Chibis in this though are pretty cute and so I don’t personally mind them. The part I did hate about world was the monster collecting aspect and that the main characters kinda suck fighting wise on their own.

  • Justice V

Oh Shoot Avatar Change means I could play the whole game as Zack? Damn…

  • I saw that the leads can switch from big to small. Why not make the FF heroes do the same? SMH I don’t have a problem with chibi but the FF heroes only being like that and not even being party members who travel with you, that’s weak.

  • Noneofyourbusiness

Because the FF heroes (who are copies of their real selves created by the god/dess of this world when she scanned other worlds) are members of the Lilikin race, whereas the leads are members of the Jiant race but have the power to take Lilikin form.

They can’t be party members, but they can be summoned in battle, like Disney supporting characters in Kingdom Hearts.

  • It would be more fun if it was no size changing, no monster collecting and just teaming up and recruiting FF Heroes who aren’t already in Dissidia. The one great thing about these games is that some of the FF heroes in them are pretty unsung heroes. Like Edgar in FF6.
