Oninaki screenshots detail the game’s story and battle scenes By Tony Garsow on February 20, 2019 at 8:19 PM

Oninaki is the third title from Square Enix’s Tokyo RPG Factory studio, previously known for 2016’s I Am Setsuna and 2018’s Lost Sphear. While their previous titles featured turn-based combat, Oninaki will be an action RPG yet will maintain the studio’s spirit of creating classic-style RPGs.

Protagonist Kagachi is a ‘Watcher’ who is “bound by duty to sever the bonds that tie the Lost to this world. With Kagachi’s guidance, these wandering souls in the world of the Beyond can continue the cyclical process of reincarnation over again.”

Square Enix has shared screenshots of the game’s story and battle scenes which can peruse in our galleries below.

Oninaki is slated to release this Summer for PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

  • This looks a lot more interesting to me than I Am Setsuna and Lost Sphear. The former was neat, but lacked originality outside of the minimalist presentation and the latter failed to grab me with its demo (though I might pick it up some time later). Here, I like the presentation a lot more and actual ARPGs are far and few between when it comes to retro-inspired games.
