Octopath Traveler gets a smartphone prequel, team teases new console game

Square Enix and Acquire, the team behind 2018’s Octopath Traveler, have revealed a new free-to-play single-player smartphone RPG for iOS and Android that will serve as a prequel game. Titled Octopath Traveler Conqueror of the Continent it will use the same “HD2D” style that its predecessor defined.

Set in the continent of Orsterra, you’ll be able to select one of three stories to start — they revolve around three conquerors in which the protagonist is chosen to defeat a great evil. Path actions return, which are different and unique ways the party can interact with NPCs return. Combat will be command-based and feature eight characters — the boost system will also return.

You can catch the launch trailer below. Registration (Japan) will begin on March 12th.

Additionally, the team hinted that they have a new console title in development, but it’s going to be a while before we see it. Whether that title is a new Octopath game or an entirely new affair remains to be seen.
