Final Fantasy VII Remake gets a teaser trailer; more to come this June By Wazi the pa on May 9, 2019 at 6:13 PM

Sony has unveiled a new teaser trailer for Final Fantasy VII Remake via their newly “State of Play” broadcast today and it looks glorious.

According to game director Tetsuya Nomura via Twitter, most of the plans for the game are already in place in the run-up to its launch. Nomura also promises for more information to release this coming June, which suggests the game may make an appearance at E3 2019.

And finally, producer Yoshinor Kitase has shared a message about the trailer via the PlayStation Blog:

Finally… the long awaited moment has come. Sorry to keep you all waiting so long!

We hope you enjoyed the footage shown during State of Play. It was quite short, but hopefully you enjoyed seeing Cloud and Aerith brought back to life with such realistic graphics.

And oh my god! Did you notice he was there too…?

We are preparing to release more official information in June, but we wanted to try
something new here on State of Play by showing you this special trailer as a taste of
what’s to come.

Stay tuned for more updates about the Final Fantasy VII Remake in the future!

    YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSS!

  • Patrick Bateman

did they get rid of George Newbern?! Sephiroth sounded different!

  • Wazi the pa

    AH I CAN’T WAIT!

  • Miqote

    It…. it’s alive…

  • stevenm281

    IT’S LOVELY!!!!!!

  • This I did not see coming at all.

  • Jesus Christ

I felt no emotion. Aerith is pretty though.

  • empirefall

I was hopping that the game ends up being something that is a little more dramatic and somber rather than an adrenaline overdosed action packed game that this trailer makes it out to be

  • empirefall

it was announced yesterday that something would be revealed today

  • empirefall

a small band of ragtag eco-warriors going up against the almighty corrupt establishment

which is a story that I think is apt to be told right now

  • empirefall

they are not really ‘eco-warriors’, each one of them just got screwed over by the state in one way or another

  • I don’t read article announcing announcements though.

  • Based on the way Crisis Core was I think this will be a middle ground if nothing else. FF7 can’t be told quietly or slowly after all we saw in AC. All they need to do is make sure the full story is there and not gloss over it.

  • •december

    It looks great.

  • •december

    DEVELOPMENT FOOTAGE. SUBJECT TO CHANGE.

  • •december

i’m getting Final Fantasy XV vibes all over again lol

  • Gabriel Hage

The episodic thing is my only concern…

  • Wazi the pa

I think it’s him, but younger sounding?

  • Patrick Bateman

i listened again with headphones, they ALL sound different :'( WHHHYYYYY Steve Burton’s been Cloud since KH1/AC and George Newbern is as much Sephiroth as David Hayter is Solid Snake in my eyes : I’m hoping these voices are temp just for the trailer because they weren’t finished with the other actors or hopefully there’s SOME explanation…I hate Seph’s new voice : Cloud I could get used to as much as I dislike it aint Steve, but getting rid of George is a big NO NO!

  • empirefall

yeah, Advent Children may give us an insight on how this game might be presented, when you consider that the director for this game is the same

although, I can understand what you mean… I really wish the story could have been about the insignificant ‘little guy’ challenging the tyrannical state and actually managing to win, to give the impression that taking on Shinra is a kin to suicide, an unwinnable death match, if you will

I think the trailer makes the protagonists seem too overpowered and too confident in what they’re doing, it’s also rather flashy, something that the original wasn’t, I would rather have a story that is more down to earth, understated and intimate, like the scene where Tifa and Cloud are talking to each other at the inn in Advent Children regarding why he has been aloof (http://www.final-fantasy.it/gpara16.jpg)

  • Randy Marsh

It’s still Steve Burton. He’s just doing a more different approach to Cloud, since this isn’t AC Cloud and it’s clear Nomura is focusing on following Cloud’s original persona from the original PS1 game. Also Steve Burton confirmed last year on twitter he was going in to do more voice acting for the game.

  • Randy Marsh

Don’t. Not trying to suck Nomura’s lollipop too much, but the man’s games don’t tend to change much outside of general HUD stuff and minor visual improvements.

  • Patrick Bateman

Guess we’ll find out in June, it doesn’t have his signature crisp, sharp voice though. and Sephiroth sounds NOTHING like George Newbern…I know they said they were going for something different in terms of their personalities, don’t really get why the voice has to change that much though,it should still sound like them, no?

  • Noctis

3 Full games, I`m ready to trow my money away. I`m also sure this game is for PS5

  • Patrick Bateman

that’s a shame, felt all of the emotion lol

  • Patrick Bateman

people said it was rumored in some facebook groups i’m in but i never believe them lol they’ve been wrong since 2015 lmao didn’t think this would be any different. I was wrong!

  • Randy Marsh

Not entirely sure if Newbern is still on the project. Since it sounds so different. However, unless Steve enjoys trolling his fanbase on twitter, I assume it’s still him. The only line of real dialogue he has in the trailer is “A flower?” Even then, it just sounds like him still doing his normal voice, which is just Cloud’s voice except more nasally.

  • Patrick Bateman

yeah i’ve definitely seen Steve’s tweets and stuff throughout the years. Hopefully in a few days he can clear the air? You’re right though, it COULD just be the trailer, none of them sound like the originals but kind of like people trying to sound like them? Sephiroth only sounds like him when he says “Cloud…” Biggs sounded more like Steve than Cloud hahah Last I saw George Newbern said he hasn’t heard anything ( no one contacted him ) and he asked Steve on twitter, but that was in 2016…

    Crisi core

  • •december

Don’t what? The font for “MORE TO COME” at the end is exactly the same font and colour he used on all his Final Fanyasy Versus 13 trailers…

  • empirefall

one of the reasons why I am ambivalent about this is due to my disappointment with Sqaure-enix’s FINAL FANTASY releases over the last… decade… or two

how long has it been since we actually got a FINAL FANTASY game worthy of legend

  • empirefall

‘rumored’ is a better word for it

  • empirefall

my main worry is that the subsequent releases are guarantee sell less than the first entry in the saga

  • Jesus Christ

    You’re easily please 🙂

  • Jesus Christ

I’m still worried about it being multiple parts. Like, why?

OK you can say original VII was on a few disk, but that’s not the same as multiple parts is it?

All I smell is this unwarranted overambition like they had with XV. I’m sorry that game didn’t live up to the hype either.

  • I’m glad this is happening. But I still am worried that Square is on the rocks. Other than FF14 and KH3 they don’t have a lot of great games these days IMO. I don’t like the TR games that much. They so-so at best. And Nier Auto was good battles but crappy characters and story IMO.

  • Patrick Bateman

100% agree. I am trying so hard not to get too excited, but I’m obsessed with 7 lmao They haven’t made an amazing game since FFXII imo, with the exception of KH3 being at least satisfying to me ( I don’t regret playing it or buying it, whereas FFXV was a dumpster fire imo lol ) Haven’t played Nier Auto yet, when it goes on sale on xbox for like $20 i’ll pick it up and see what the fuss is about haha. I DO wish that new Chocobo Dungeon game went to other consoles though, I think it looks alright, get a real classic feeling from the gameplay vids and stuff i’ve seen.

Who knows! Square-Enix is like Pandora’s Box, never know if they’re going to deliver a masterpiece or sh*t ^ ^

  • Flashiness has to be there because we all know the FF7 cast as super humans by they time they really get started. Especially with lots of materia and soldiers with jenova cells. It’s not time to slow things down or subdue the action, it’s just time to make sure the story holds up. Downgrade them and they end up being a shell of what we know they can do. Like how Thanos in the live action movies never uses Cosmic Powers or blasts. All he does is use the gems and punch and slam. That’s not all he can do.

Down-to-Earth is what they wanted with 15, and that turned out terrible. It’s a Fantasy Sci-Fi story. With evil aliens and mad scientists. This is not the time to make the cast seem like regular people.

  • As long as they don’t become rock bottom like Konami became.

  • empirefall

    he also says “I’m fine”

  • Randy Marsh

Oh excuse me, two lines! We got to here so much!

  • •december

if assassins creed odyssey can fit all on one disc I don’t see why FF7 Remake can not

  • Noctis

who cares if you can play the game?

  • empirefall

you know what, re-thinking about it all now, of course an iterative release of this game will earn Square-enix more money than a single release

assuming that each game will cost US$60, everybody and their mother will buy this remake were it to be released as a single game or as the first game in an iterative saga, that is guaranteed, any other game that comes after that will not achieve the same sales peak as the first game, however, if the game was released as a full game that would only be a one off sale and as I alluded prior, if the game were to release as the first part in a saga, it would most likely reap the same sales as a full game release would, the difference being that even though the subsequent parts in the saga will not achieve the same amount of sales as the first part, all other subsequent parts would be additional profit that a single full game release would probably never make
