Square Enix outlines the future schedule surrounding the current Final Fantasy XIV's fate

The current version of Final Fantasy XIV is ending – if you hadn’t heard the news, you most certainly do now.

Square Enix has laid out the plans for the coming month for current and future players alike, with the end of this month signaling the beginning of the end. Billing for the current version of XIV will cease at the end of the month, which means October will be completely free to play. Starting from November 1st, all current character data will be moved over to the new version of the game – A Realm Reborn.

On November 11th, the old version of the game will go dark, with Producer/Director Naoki Yoshida set to address the fanbase at large with a new Letter from the Producer the same day. The remainder of the schedule looks something like this:

September 29, 2012 (Saturday, 11:59 p.m. PDT)
– Final Fantasy XIV billing procedures will be suspended until the launch of A Realm Reborn.
– No further account registrations will be accepted until the launch of A Realm Reborn.
– No unused special item codes may be registered until the launch of A Realm Reborn.
– The simultaneous subscription bonuses for Final Fantasy XI and Final Fantasy XIV will be terminated.

November 1, 2012 (Thursday)
– Character data (including in-game progress) will not be saved after this date.

November 11, 2012 (Sunday, 0:00 a.m. PST)
– Final Fantasy XIV service will be shut down at this time.
