Dragon Quest XI for PS4 and Nintendo 3DS releases on July 29 in Japan; gameplay footage revealed

Dragon Quest XI: In Search of Departed Time is set to release on July 29, 2017 for PlayStation 4 and Nintendo 3DS, Square Enix announced today.

The PlayStation 4 version will cost ¥8,980 and the Nintendo 3DS version will cost ¥5,980. Eager ones can now pre-order the PlayStation 4 digital version at the Japanese PlayStation Store.

According to the representatives, the initial plan was to release the title in May for the franchise’s 30th anniversary, but unfortunately the development team required more time to get the game to the level of quality they wanted.

As for the Nintendo Switch version, Wall Street Journal’s Takashi Mochizuki approached Square Enix public relations, who stated, “Support is planned, but there is nothing to announce today. We cannot say today whether the release date is the same or different as the PlayStation 4 and 3DS versions.”

Square Enix also confirmed that Dragon Quest XI‘s story will take around 50 hours to finish. If you take account of all the side content, the game should take more than 100 hours to complete.

On top of that, it’s been confirmed that the previously teased “Spell of Restoration” will in fact be usable in Dragon Quest XI. You can utilize a Spell of Restoration that lines up with your progress, but it doesn’t reproduce everything per se. For instance, the Hero’s name is not reproduced, but the general state of things based on the progress of the created Spell of Restoration is reproduced. The feature will be available to use interchangeably between the PlayStation 4 and Nintendo 3DS versions.

The company also shared brand new footage and screenshots of the RPG running on PlayStation 4 and Nintendo 3DS.
