Unveiled through PlayStation’s live conference from Paris Games Week, Final Fantasy XV: Episode Ignis is set to be released on December 13 this year. Yasunori Mitsuda has also been confirmed to be composing for this episode, which if you didn’t know, did work for Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross, and Xenogears.
With this episode, fans will finally be able to experience the untold story of Ignis’s battle against Leviathan during the events of the main game through his own perspective this time around. The trailer shows some of the expected gameplay and brand new scenes to be featured in the episode, including the challenges Ignis faces and the battles he endures to protect Noctis.
The episode’s main setting will be the streets of Altissia, featuring fast-paced action gameplay with Ignis’s spelldaggers. Imbued with elemental properties, he has a unique ability called “Total Clarity” which allows him to target and attack multiple enemies at once. Ravus will also join your forces as a guest appearance (just like how Cor was in Episode Gladiolus and Aranea in Episode Prompto).
Additionally, the episode will feature multiple endings, allowing players to see different outcomes of events.
You can also watch the interview with Yasunori Mitsuda, where he talks about his work for the episode and his thoughts about his comeback in contributing work for Square Enix as it has been around 18 years since his last work.
