Square Enix smashes rumors of Final Fantasy Versus XIII’s cancellation By Erren Van Duine on July 24, 2012 at 1:13 AM

Square Enix has confirmed that Final Fantasy Versus XIII remains in development.

A comment from Yoichi Wada has been provided in light of recent rumors that suggested work on the title had ceased, with various elements now being retooled for Final Fantasy XV.

On Twitter he laughed at rumors of Versus XIII’s cancelation, going on to say that today the team just finished their regular staff meeting on the game, which included a presentation on some of the game’s towns that he took part in.

“It seems someone is spreading a false rumor about Versus being canceled. Heh, just a few moments ago a regularly scheduled meeting for Versus ended. If you were to see the city etc. presented today, you wouldn’t be able to stand from surprise, lol.”

So there you have it. Straight from the top.

Update: Yoko Shimomura, the game’s composer, has also weighed in on the situation. She retweeted Wada’s message and soon after replied, “About that, please rest assured.”

    I liked FF13 and my hope on comparing Toriyama’s story to Nomura’s story is still on! I think I’m going to like them both, but I want to see which one is the better game!

    Hmm. Versus13 is one of my “lights at the end of the hallway” games for SE. I really do hope it delivers on a note that is worth it’s six+ year wait.

    As much as I didn’t believe the rumour anyway, it’s wonderful to get official confirmation that it’s a load of crap. Don’t know how publications can get away with spreading this kind of rubbish. It’s a long wait, but I have faith in Versus.

    ever since the rumor broke i started looking at all the gatherd info about it and i dont think i would be possible for it to be anything but amazing i thnk the only thing that can let it down is the overall gameplay length, side quest’s and DLC the type that should allready be in the game. so they can take as long as they like as long as it come out. P.S. I dont like the fact they same to be slowing it down for the other FF13 game’s but thats all

    I think most were merely saying they wouldn’t be surprised if it were canceled.

    The best ‘source’ is a statement issued by the company themselves instead of latching onto rumors and their purported sources.

    Well, crap. That means they’ll be slower on the FF13-3 development and Type-0…although, since FFVersusXIII is on the KH development team, would that affect the previously mentioned FF games?

    No, I don’t see why it would. If anything, Versus should come out before any 13-3… but it probably won’t.

    Type-0′s situation is still up in the air, but localization has been in progress for it.
