Square Enix shows off dynamic hair technology in new Luminous Engine videos By Erren Van Duine on January 30, 2013 at 12:21 AM

Let’s get this out right in front: Agni’s Philosophy is not a game.

It’s a tech demo, and I know there’s been speculation abound as to whether or not Square Enix is going to make it into a game. As of now, they’re not and the developers of the engine have said as much. FFXV will probably be something else, so it’s best not to get hopes up out of fear of running into another FFVII tech demo cycle of remaking begging for a product that doesn’t exist.

That said, Square Enix has released a couple new videos showing off their lovely next generation Luminous Engine for the public to see. Both videos are focused on the engine’s new hair technology, as well as collision and other dynamic reactions and how they work.

Although the engine itself is still under construction, parts of it have been sanctioned for use in Final Fantasy Versus XIII, as well as base ideas in FFXIV’s own custom engine. As we enter the threshold of a new generation, it will be interesting to see how the future of Final Fantasy turns out – for better or worse.

Good. I don’t want Agni’s Philosophy to be a game. New engine looks great. It’s nice that SE is planning ahead this time.

    Mustache technology?

    THE FUTURE HAS COME!

I WANT Agni’s Philosophy to be made game and square don’t want…
goddamn you Square you ruin all things… you ruined ff13.

blah blah blah, though I agree with you, i also want Agnis Philosophy to turn into a new game, Agnis Philosophy: Final Fantasy will be the name of the game

All this is very impressive and im sure Versus will be running wiht some of this tech on next gen systems. I would actually like Agni’s Philosophy to be game. Get away from the futuristic, scifi, and LOTR themes and have amore historical nature to a FF game. The middle eastern look in the tech demo was great IMO. Even a medieval castles & and dragons type setting would be interesting.

Im with you. It looks beautiful, but i don’t want it as a game either. At least not a ff title.

I don’t know why watching hair flop around is so awesome… but it is!

what’s with the down votes ? I totally want Agni to be a full game and I actually predict it to become the next main FF.The response to it was overwhelmingly positive I think.

Why does everyone hate Agni? I love it!!!! Looks so sick I mean come on people. Yes versus should be completed before this even gets put into motion but THIS LOOKS SO AMAZING!!! It has a cool modern set but then epic magic shit that comes from no where!!!! Such a mix and blend of many different styles plus a kick ass girl with an epic outfit and dragon…….what is going on?

Firstly, Versus will come out before this (if you mean in game form) becuase this is a tech demo… no plans for a game.
Second, IMO, the magic is far from “epic”, The modern setting is quite boring (before the scene with the… typical FF castle). The enemies look like they were ripped out of [insert middle eastern based FPS title here] and the dragon looks more like something out of silent hill. Ive seen better aerial beast designs in pokemon…

keep on hating, cause whatever you saw is totally different from what I saw. Plus you should read over my part about versus ;)

Come on SE……….this has so much potential :(

I’m pretty sure we saw the same things we just have our own preferences of taste… btw “Hating” is oft a term used to describe someone disliking a person or product purely to enrage the base of consumers who enjoy said entertainment or person. I gave valid reasons as to why I dislike the product in this case. And regarding your Versus comment, my statement applied to the fact that you seem to put both Versus and Philosophy in the same category of development. One is a scheduled product to be released and another is an R&D/marketing tool for game developers. I am just trying to avoid hearing another “where’s my Agni square!?” rant in the same way the ff7 tech demo enraged people expecting a remake.
