New Lightning Returns screenshots revisit Serah and the all-powerful Bhunivelze

4Gamer has published a wealth of new Lightning Returns screenshots – the bulk of which graced the pages of last week’s Famitsu special covering the upcoming end to the Lightning Saga. While most of the information contained in their article can be found translated here, Square Enix has offered a better look at Serah, Cid Raines and the all-powerful God of Light.

We’ll have more information as it comes in, so in the meantime feast your eyes on these clearer shots of the game and its various systems – Including Bhunivelze’s full render!

New Information
  • Bhunivelze is an almighty being who can freely control the world. But despite this power, he is suspiciously unable to stop the Chaos. As Lightning defies his divine plan, she will come to learn of the true reason why she was made “the Savior”.
  • Lumina’s question to Lightning is highlighted once more in this article. “How long are you going to pretend to be ‘Lightning’?” The article seems to question if The Savior is truly Lightning at all, or just made to be like her.
  • In another screenshot, Lightning asks to an unknown person offscreen “Are you saying they’re a fake?” Who she suspects of being a fake is unclear, but this is apparently the screenshot with Lumina standing behind Lightning.
  • Cid explains that, after death, the souls of people are swallowed by Chaos. However, this does not mean destruction.
  • Serah, who reappears before Lightning, also leaves a mysterious quote: “I will erase all memories of my sin and go to the new world, where nostalgic days with you are waiting.”
  • With the press of a button, players can switch between two camera angles during battle – close and long range. The second is especially helpfully when fighting multiple enemies, as players can examine what each opponent is doing.
  • The close-up image of Bhunivelze says: “You dare challenge a god?” And the other one says: “Allow me to eternally adore you/them/it.” It is not clearly stated what or who he is referring to.
  • The shot with Fang and Vanille has the line: “I won’t let you go, even if I die.”

Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII will launch this week on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in Japan with a western release available in North America and Europe this upcoming February.
