English version of Lightning Returns to feature optional Japanese audio DLC By Erren Van Duine on November 21, 2013 at 6:04 AM

Lightning Returns will feature the original Japanese Voice-Overs available as free downloadable content (DLC) during the first two weeks of the game being on-sale, Square Enix revealed today. After this limited period, the Japanese Voice-Over Pack will be available as paid DLC – although pricing on that specific item has yet to be announced.

The Japanese Voice-Over Pack also includes lip-synching that differs from the English-language voice track already included with the game, to ensure a more natural and localized game experience. The game is set to hit western shelves on February 11, 2014 in North America and February 14th for Europe.

I see, that explains why Leta suddenly gained so many days.Oh well,my oaf moment…should have know they wouldn’t condition eradia for monsters,or else people would grind it.

  • Mateus.E

that is the point,Sir Ehren.Maybe some edit is needed.Well, that was more to the people who disliked her comment than to her,and also because I disagree with her opinion.
But I can understand it.After all,VA is rather hit or miss, and we live in a democracy, lol.
Just wanna know why she didn’t like the performance.
I like VAs and hearing possibly constructive comments is helpful to have some understanding of some of the…finer points in the job and improving my opinions on the matter.

    just curiosity.It ain’t anything like flaming,or being nasty…understand right?

  • Martian Wong

Thanks, I hope the same will be done for FFXV!

  • Ehren Rivers

Oh sorry, for some reason I read that as don’t.

  • Storm

LR is probably my favorite of the trilogy now. the livestreams were amazing.

  • XYFEIR

Gameplay wise it’s definitely my favorite. The combat is smooth and there’s a great flow to it. Overall, I think it’s my favorite too! ^w^

  • Storm

not only about the gameplay, but there’s something about the world that just clicked with me, don’t know what they did, but its looking way more immersive than previous XIII titles.

  • Cloud AC

    And KH3 and Drakengard 3.

  • Wazi the pa

You serious? talk bout poor leadership :/ …… Well….. heres hoping they have learned their mistake…. in a way :p

  • Martian Wong

    Absolutely!

  • Ritsuko

    FINALLY!!!

  • Jaundr√©

[Spoiler!!]Just saw the Cauis boss battle and it was amazing as we would expect but what actually got me smiling is the guy playing and his reaction when he obtained Cauis’ s sword after battle. He was so suprised and excited! Never forget his reaction. Cant wait to use that 600 magic and physical + sword!!

  • Sothe Zephyr

NUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU SPOILER ALERT NEEDS TO BE BIGGER DX Honestly i think iknew hed die…..just didnt want to know it before hand…

  • Jaundr√©

I dont think he had died, he and yeul disappeared in a cloud of chaos and since everything was in Japanese I had no idea what was going on!! Just a reward for completing the battle the player gets Cauis’ s sword, but by no means does this mean he died. I am also trying to avoid spoilers, but I couldnt pass the Cauis fight, had to see that! Still have no idee what went on plot wise.

  • Sapientia

    Dat…dat epilogue…
After nearly four years of being with this series…wow, I was doing the waterworks when they showed this *new* world… I now see why Hamauzu cried when composing the final song, I sure as hell did.
    T_T
It’s a good ending, though. REALLY freakin’ good.

  • XYFEIR

I couldn’t wait anymore and went on tumblr to see the spoilers. I just…. *sobs uncontrollably* I’m gonna miss this series so much! <3 TTwTT

  • Storm

lol at people complaining about the ending, really.

  • Mateus.E

Yeah…it was definetly,as Caius would say,”Impressive”.Well, the world at the end of LR could be the world of XV,who knows. It looks too much like reality anyway.but please, look at this…http://31.media.tumblr.com/ae78d655f502e790569d324835afa908/tumblr_mwnbv7xhha1rtiqmuo1_1280.jpg
whoever did it should be ashamed…this is silly.
the fact that Etro is dead means shit…since Etro was already dead.

  • Mateus.E

Gamefaqs got even more annoying in my book…shit, nothing is enough for the fans…they even have the gall to think that they,a bunch of noobs and neophytes, are better than the “professional” storymakers of SE,that aren’t some random idiots..and were specifically chosen among thousands that are in the career.

  • Mateus.E

So…what was Lumina?Ah,doesn’t matter,Leta is on day 10…soon soon he will do the vanile quest.Wait…http://pt.twitch.tv/teakdoc did this guy end the game allready?doesn’t look like it.But he already beat Caius,so he is close…hmmm.Guess I shouldn’t have underestimated him…he is on day 12.Cid Raines appeared…and talked with Lightning…he said something about Vanille…shoot, knew it…she is being tricked.

  • iLoveLightning

Should I watch the ending or what? I need an opinion like RN cuz I’m dying!

  • XYFEIR

That’s up to you, I don’t wanna say much, but it’s becoming one of my favorite FF endings. I just need to see it in English now. <3

  • iLoveLightning

OK THIS IS LIKE A QUESTION TO ANYONE WHO’S PLAYING THE JAPANESE VERSION CUZ I MUST KNOW THE ANSWER RIGHT NOW!!!

Is this game better than XIII or XIII-2 and what would you rate it overall? Give it separate ratings if you can xD e.g. graphics /10 etc.

  • XYFEIR

Personally, I feel it completely tops both games (That says a lot because I LOVE XIII) The combat, the over-world, the characters show more development. Everything I love. I give it a 10. Easily

  • iLoveLightning

You actually played it? Wow, so lucky!

And thanks! I haven’t played it besides like 45 minutes-ish at some event, but from what I did play I can tell I’m going to love it. I am slightly cautious though, since one of my friends on gfaqs said he was slightly disappointed, which saddened me.

Anyway, I’ll probably enjoy it more than any game I’ve ever played because clothes + Lightning + fabulosity = story of my life. <3

  • XYFEIR

Yep. bought the Japanese version. :>

I think you’ll like it, I found some really cool outfits that weren’t shown in trailers yet too. So much FAB! XD I’m really loving it though, I’m sure you will too. :>

  • Sapientia

    I’m playing it.
And hell yes I think it’s better than XIII and XIII-2. Right now I’d rate it an 9/10.
I literally have barely stopped playing it since getting it on Friday.
Graphcis: on my screen the game is a pretty good looking-8/10
    Sound/music: 9/10
    Gameplay: 9/0
    Story: 7-8/10

  • Sapientia

If you want to. It’s my favorite ending now, completely slapping Type-0 outta here.

  • Xervath

This game has gone over my head completely, due to lack of interest. However, the fact that Square acknowledges the animo for Japanese voices is something I am extremely happy with.
Might even pick this game up later, as a sign of appreciation.

I hope Square will continue to do this with future titles (FFXV in particular)

  • Jean Paiva

I’m curious about the ending….I want to see, but I want to wait until the USA release. FEELS.

  • iLoveLightning

Story is 7-8?? Is it better than XIII’s and XIII-2′s story at least? XIII has one of my fave stories of all time, so if it beats it I’d be very impressed.

  • Sapientia

lol a 7-8 isn’t a bad score. Plus I haven’t finished it yet AND it’s in Japanese. So until I finish it fully and understand it completely that’s the score I give. So far I like it, but just a wee bit less than XIII. And it’s way better than XIII-2′s story, I wasn’t huge on XIII-2′s story or anything to be honest (more interested in the lore really).

  • iLoveLightning

Ah, I see. I’m guessing you understand a teeny bit of Japanese though, right? Well anyway, thanks you and XYFEIR-Fabulosity for answering ^_^! I’m so excited for this I can no longer contain myself D:

  • Sapientia

    Yeah, a bit.
    And no problemo, AMIGO!
    My Spanish sucks. xD

  • mincci

If they’re doing this, then I hope they make the English translation as similar to the original Japanese script as possible. I’d hate to be listening to the Japanese voices say one thing and the English subs say something similar… but not quite right. Like in the first game with the “I’ll keep you safe” vs “I’ll protect you” (or something along those lines)

I think each game has its strengths… LR definitely excels in its gameplay. I don’t think I’m saying anything you didn’t already know, but the battles are fast-paced compared to XIII and XIII-2. In those previous installments, you were able to queue up a string of attacks and just sit back as they were executed. In LR, the attacks come out as soon as you press a button, so you’ll have to think on your feet more. You also won’t be able to spam attacks and expect to get far. As people have said, there’s more strategy involved.

I love the knockout mechanic so far. It makes each fight unique. I’m not sure if there’s a way to tell which attacks cause knockouts for each enemy, so I’m using trial and error. Enemies have different knockout states. Some can be knocked into the air and juggled as they were in previous games, some take more magic damage when in their knockout state, and some may have a secondary knockout state. There was a dragon-type enemy that had a knockout state from magic attacks, then a second knockout state from physical/non-magic attacks. Learning when to block is a big deal in this game as it greatly mitigates damage and can cause a knockout state on certain enemies as well. Oh, and overclock isn’t as overpowered as it seems. Again, you won’t get far if you just spam overclock.

I can’t make a proper judgement call on the story as I don’t know Japanese.

The music is great, but to me, the songs don’t stand out as much as the XIII-2 OST, which is my favorite OST of the trilogy.

Graphics… I’ve only played in Luxerion and Yusnaan so far. I particularly love Yusnaan at night. I might be crazy, but I happen to think that XIII-2 looks better. Maybe it’s the designs, the colors, I don’t know. There’s just something about XIII-2 that clicked with me and I don’t get that same feeling with LR.

The gameplay really jumped out at me and I’m really enjoying the game more than I thought I would. I love it, and while I now own the Japanese version, I’m still really really anxious for the English version so that I can understand the story and the quest requirements. :)

  • http://www.facetimepolice.com/ ultromega

That’s not much of a difference in dialogue. :) Maybe the English speaking voice actors had to match the mouth flaps as they have to do when dubbing anime.

  • OcarinaPlayerOfTime

I’m very curious if the japanese version has an english setting, probably not though xD

  • http://www.facetimepolice.com/ ultromega

Unfortunately, no. The Japanese version does not have an option to turn on English subtitles.

  • OcarinaPlayerOfTime

DANG! I was considering buying it, but my japanese is very very poor :P

  • http://www.facetimepolice.com/ ultromega

I don’t know a word of Japanese and I got through the game. Anyway, we’re just a little over a month away from the English release. I’d just wait. :)

  • OcarinaPlayerOfTime

Sweet! Probably should preorder it though for the cloud strife costume, love FFVII!

  • michkori

Sucks for you, i pre ordered it :p

  • http://www.facetimepolice.com/ ultromega

There was a writer on another site that said that the Buster Sword was one of the best weapons in the game. Personally, I’m looking forward to that weapon more than the outfit.

  • OcarinaPlayerOfTime

    DANGIT

  • OcarinaPlayerOfTime

Awesome, I’ll go to gamestop tomorrow
