Final Fantasy XIV snags 600K subscriptions, exceeds expectations

Final Fantasy XIV’s relaunch has been even more successful than Square Enix themselves realized, as cited in their latest quarterly financial report. The newly launched MMORPG has managed to gather up over 600,000 paid subscriptions since its launch in August – a number that puts it higher than the peak subscription numbers for Final Fantasy XI, which was released 11 years ago and lives on today. Additionally, Square Enix has shipped 1.45 million copies of the game thus far – approximately 1.1 million of those on disc with 350K through digital download.

Following this success, the team plans to focus on a new content patch set to arrive this December. Version 2.1 will introduce many features including PvP area, the Crystal Tower, Player Housing and more. Fans can expect further updates to the game to follow every three months or so.
